Geo has published a half-page advertisement in all of his editions addressing the prime minister and the chief justice of the Supreme Court. Geo has clearly stated that it has no confidence in Pemra and wants a judicial commission to look into the application forwarded by the Defence Ministry to cancel Geo’s licence. Geo still has a few days left to reply to Pemra’s show-cause notice. It would be interesting to see how the government would react to Geo’s no-confidence in a government department.

On the other hand, Hamid Mir has refused to record his statement to JIT because of presence of ISI members in the team. The team returned without recording his statement. Hamir Mir wants ISI representatives out of the JIT. Though it’s a norm that JITs have always been headed by ISI people, but in this particular case, ISI should ‘recuse’ itself from the JIT to the satisfaction of the victim.

Haha.. yea ofcourse the principle of “conflict of interest” doesnt apply on Army and ISI. God forbid if someone asks for their accountability either. They have a free license that if somebody suspects or criticize them, it’ll be forced to go down.

Pakistan is a country that had a terrible past in every sense of the word. Military, Mullah, media, bureaucracy and politicians, everyone whooped it up in one way or the other. Even the civil society that believes stealing electricity and not paying bills is a birthright of everyone contributed to country’s undoing.

It is a general understanding that the military establishment, with absolute backing of politicians, played havoc with the country. People also believe that the future of the country is associated with democracy. The only thing now missing is patience. No country, nation or system could be perfected with the turn of a switch. Democracy will continue to porpoise before stabilizing. We need to give time to the system, people and institutions as well. It’s a long journey, but the right one for sure.

Contrary to popular speculations in this thread that it's a move by PML(N) in partnership with Geo to trap, weaken and sideline the army, it's actually brought the government and military together, if not closer. The subsequent meetings, decisions, statements and speeches clearly indicate a compromise between both institutions. PMLN still has four long years ahead of them, and an unresolved War in front of them, no way they were going to jeopardize their somewhat mended relations with the military over a TV channel.

The war between ISI and geo at the moment is in the favour of the latter. 7 out of 10 members of Pemra have refused to be a part of banning the channel. Two members who belong to PPP have supported the banning though. Does this show the hypocrisy of the party?

This is becoming interesting as the government seems to be on the back of geo and the military on the other side of the fence.
