The Caliphs would have served to the end of their lives if they were not assassinated ... and the assassinations were wrong they were not right unless you claim them to be so ... We follow the orders of RasoolAllah (SAW) about leadership we do not say "there should be no life long leaders" - when we know RasoolAllah (SAW) told us to stick firm in loyal obedience to our leaders even if they are harsh to us ... why do you think the West is so effective? Is it because their leadership is constantly replaced? No, it is because they have protected their leadership from scrutiny by propping up a puppet show for us all to watch and we are preoccupied with those puppets and not the true leaders ... If we want success we cannot prop up a leader and expect him to stand down ... life long leadership is required and we should protect our pious leaders with our own lives ... This is the only way or we must become like the West in every way ... i.e. have our own set of puppets and have life long leaders in the shadows ... (this model to me is deceipt and powermongery) ...

And yes I am comparing people like Gaddafi to our Caliphs ... because they are comparable in the context that I am talking about ... which is leadership and how long it should last ... I also believe that there will come a time when Pious Leadership shall return and I feel in order for it to come about I must do my bit to promote the truth about it ... For a surety we must stand firm loyal to our leadership, but when they become tyranical we stand away and do not become rebellious - we convince their supporters to go shift their focus elsewhere. We never put mindless followers in to positions of power, but people who can both lead and follow without any taste or desire for that power.

Disclaimer: I got the following from a friend's fb page. Dont know the truth but if true, he DID do some appreciable things for his people. And btw, I do not support the way he was killed. But I Guess libyans needed their closure.

  1. There is no electricity bill in Libya; electricity is free for all its citizens.
  2. There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at 0% interest by law.
  3. Home considered a human right in Libya – Gaddafi vowed that his parents would not get a house until everyone in Libya had a home. Gaddafi’s father has died while him, his wife and his mother are still living in a tent.
  4. All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 Dinar (US$50,000) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start up the family.
  5. Education and medical treatments are free in Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans are literate. Today the figure is 83%.
  6. Should Libyans want to take up farming career, they would receive farming land, a farming house, equipments, seeds and livestock to kick-start their farms – all for free.
  7. If Libyans cannot find the education or medical facilities they need in Libya, the government funds them to go abroad for it – not only free but they get US$2,300/mth accommodation and car allowance.
  8. In Libyan, if a Libyan buys a car, the government subsidized 50% of the price.
  9. The price of petrol in Libya is $0.14 per liter.
  10. Libya has no external debt and its reserves amount to $150 billion – now frozen globally.
  11. If a Libyan is unable to get employment after graduation the state would pay the average salary of the profession as if he or she is employed until employment is found.
  12. A portion of Libyan oil sale is, credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.
  13. A mother who gave birth to a child receive US$5,000

Why would his own people to whom he has given so much luxury turn against him? I can't see it ... somehow ... there must be a different angle to this story.

His people turned against him??

It was not his people who turned against him, has this been the case, Qadhafi could have not hold the ground for 6 straight months... and that against NATO...

The wrong doing of Qadhafi was that in 2003 or 2004 he signed a treaty with western power that he will not acquire WMD, thus will not build strong army/defense in return, Western Forces will assist Libya in case of foreign or internal threat...

This was the biggest blunder he did in his life and if have cost him and Libya everything....

Already talks are there that Libyan NTC have to pay for the bombing campaign... i am sure the bill would be 100 of billions... and then the NTC have already ask western support for the re-building, which of course would help the collapsing economies of Europe, Iraq and Libya have enough oil to pay the bills... and that is going to happen...

If you go to the BBC website, you can see videos of underground (literally beneath the ground) secret hospitals built beneath a university. Beside the operating room is nicely furnished bedroom. The Libyan university professors were shocked .... and doctors were shocked at the state of the art equipment being used versus that given to certain hospitals above the ground.

He was an unjust leader .... like I said before, he had a great vision of unity and fairness, but he failed to implement it as his ego grew out of control.

Hanibal, Gaddafi's own son tried to over throw him a few years ago. If he was so great, his own family would not have turned against him. The son was eventually forgiven after living in exile for a few years.

I wish pakistan had an uprising like this. But its not gonna happen. First of all there is sooo much apathy in pakistan its unreal. As someone who has travelled to both countries, one of the biggest differences i observed was that in Libya when people have a problem, they stand up to the governement to feed thier families, and fight for there rights. In pakistan, its survival of the fittest - they feed thier families at the expense of each other. Putting a gun to someones head to feed ur family is pretty much mainstream in pakistan now

If BBC website is to trusted, then i am still waiting for WMD to be discovered from Iraq.. they posted pics and images proving that they existed...

I don't care how good or bad he was, i don't care if his son or any other person was trying to over-throw him, i am interested what happens at top level as long as it is not directly supported by external forces... You haven't answered me, what if the same logic is used by China??? what if they start supporting Maoist with arms and ammunition??? would that be acceptable to west???

Few weeks ago, I was listening to this non-commercial radio.
There were African analyst talking about qazzafi/gaddafi revolt/situation.

I was surprised. That he had his whole persona as a African leader.
Not muslim/middle-eastern But african. And how france and west had issue with it.

He was the strongest more charismatic African leader who was most active for african cause.
That reason alone got him in this trouble.

The BBC website has posted a video of Gaddaffi begging for his life while his people are dragging him on the ground. I trust that.

What you say about the West having their own agenda may or may not be correct. Time will tell. However, you should not write off the Libyan people. The uprising is happening all over the Middle East. People are sick and tired of being controlled. We are seeing the affects of it now.

The people can have uprising against their govt...they can force their govt to quit, they have right to over throw their govt if they think so, they can try their rulers in the court and hang them if found guilty of charges... but under no circumstances, foreign forces have any role in this....they should have not intervened... very bad precedent we have got here now... this is not going to be limited till Libya, i can assure you this...this is going to spread..there are always some unhappy people in some country.. there are always people who think that they are not getting rewards and then there are always meer jafars and mir sadiqs there to fuel the things and get their country enslaved...

Hanibal, Nato already intervened to help Muslims in Kosovo. At the time, Muslims were happy as the Serbs were being bomed. The precedent was set back then, and at the time, we (meaning Muslims) were ok with it cause we already knew what Milosevic did in Bosnia.
