Once I watched this program on National Geographic about taboo foods and I got fascinated with what other people of the world eat. As they say on Natgeo that things taboo in one culture can be norm in other.
Here is some thing I came across recently:
One food item you always see a lot at the temple fair ( in Thailand) is the fried insects. Those crunchy things that taste a bit like burnt bacon. Fancy a grasshopper? No? Then why not try some fried baby birds?
Share any thing you think is normal in one culture and taboo in other. Please stay away from discussing religious practices and adult topics , everything else goes.
Re: Fried insects anyone ? (avoid this thread if you are about to eat or just eaten)
What are you embarrased about ?
You drink vinegar or coal tar does not matter as long as you are comfortable with it.
As I said above something taboo in one culture can be a norm and a perfectly normal practice in other. Did you not read that ?

^ mirc is that food spicy?
looks yummy
Since it is fried , it might be crunchy and since Thai also use lots of spices in their food it might be spicy.
Personally I avoid eating prawns and shrimps to me they look like fried insects when the get rolled into circle after they are fried , cooked , grilled or BBQ.

Dude you are such a chicken. Shrimps are one of the best thing a man can eat.

I tried alligator and possum. Shark fin and sea cukes (now THAT was gross). I like raw oysters, they arent that unusual but they are nevertheless rather gross looking and "swimey" lol. Never ate insects (well not since I was 2 and my big brother was feeding me beetles telling me "here, this is a good one, try THIS one" and laughing when I did).

Because it is not about food , or recipies it is about taboos.
I agree .
