Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

The massive rigging by Mush continues unabated.

Mashallah another unprecedented achievement by the corrupt dictator.

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

There has been rigging before, but never on this scale. The dictator is taking Pakistan to another low

Just one example of how the detested dictator is trying to hold on to his corrupt office:

http://www.dawn.com/weekly/kamran/kamran.htm

Rashid’s nephew, no names, a married, unskilled labourer was arrested by the Bahtar police for putting up PPP flags and locked up in the police station where he stayed for three nights before the police made him an offer. Pay Rs15,000, remove the flags and put up PML-Q flags, or we charge you with stealing a donkey pump.

The boy said he would do no such thing. He was duly charged with theft and remanded to the police for three days; and bailed out on the fourth. The police are now asking he settle the matter out of court.

Quite apart from the blatant pre-poll rigging and the trauma of being arrested and kept in a cold, very cold cell for more than a week for no crime, please also look at the cost to the poor boy. First and foremost, if a day labourer does not work he takes no money home for food; second, travelling expenses for Rashid to go the 15 miles to Bahtar and 30 to Fateh Jang every day, and the lawyer’s fees etcetera cost an extra Rs7,000. God alone knows what else is in store for the lad.

This is just one example among many thousands across Pakistan that one hears and reads about every day. ‘Fair election’ my elbow!

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

All major political parties should boycott elections immediately. Of-course they wont. Because the major parties know they have a chance of winning the lections because the elections will be free and fair.

People are just making excuses already to hide the fact just incase they have bad results. :)

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

Such 'spin' is at least entertaining

Shame for you it's not the truth

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

It is the truth. Why would the major political parties take part in the elections if they kew they will be rigged? They are taking part because they know they have a chance of winning the elections because the elections will be free and fair. :)

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

^Coz boycotting will only hurt themselves, not the crook who's occupying the thrown and rigging everything that comes in his way.

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

Why would it hurt themselves?

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

thats what i don't get. why don't they simply not participate. the thinking is, lets go to polls and if we don't win then we cry about rigging.

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

Absolutely right. These parties know the elections will not be rigged. They are already making excuses if they have a bad result - just like the supporters of these parties. :)

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

because the elections are going to be rigged Mush's supporters are already trying to preempt the obvious hue and cry which is going to take place.

It is bit rich coming from the dictator himself that he will not tolerate parties rioting after the elections if the verdict doesn't go their way. Has he forgotten what he did in November when he was about to be turfed out, he nearly destroyed Pakistan in his quest to keep his kursi. Pathetic corrupt leader.

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

Daleel bhai. This is excellent news. We don’t want any anarchy in Pakistan by the political parties that themselves are undemocratic.

God Bless President Musharaf for putting Pakistan first yet again. :k:

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

So you think it is ok for Mush to create anarchy but not for anyone else.

Mush has never put Pakistan first, kursi first yes not Pakistan, the worst leader along with Zia.

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

Daleel bhai. It is the terrorists in Pakistan that are causing anarchy. We don’t want undemocratic parties doing the same if they cry about the results. If they believe the elections will be rigged why are they taking part?

Thank god we have strong leader like great President Musharaf at this delicate stage in Pakistan’s history. May God Bless him, and may he continue for a long long time. :k:

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

Inshallah your “strong” leader will be dragged kicking and screaming from Army House by his hair once people start protesting after the rigging of the elections.
Then he can be charged with High Treason.

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

The parties are taking part in the elections in order that they can unmask his true face to the world. If they didn’t participate than they would have left the field open to the incompetent dictator. Now the world will be able to see his cheap and nasty tricks. That is why. Simple. But than it is difficult for some personality worshippers ot accept that.

may Allah save Pakistan from the most unprecedented incompetent leader Pakistan has had along with Zia.

Musharraf faces defeat in Pakistan elections
Fears of vote rigging abound
Matthew Fisher , Canwest News Service
Published: Friday, February 15, 2008

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan’s 80 million voters appear set to hand President Pervez Musharraf’s party a devastating defeat in parliamentary elections Monday, but guessing what the declared outcome might be is not easy.

Most of the electorate is certain that widespread vote fraud will favour the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Q, triggering more bloodshed and political uncertainty in a country still reeling from the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto seven weeks ago.

Nearly three-quarters of Pakistanis intend to vote for the two main opposition parties, the late Bhutto’s Pakistan Peoples Party and the PML-N faction, according to a poll published recently in Washington by the International Republican Institute. Only 14 per cent support Musharaff’s PML-Q. Furthermore, 75 per cent of those polled want Musharraf to quit, according to the survey.

If these readings are accurate and the vote count is not interfered with, the King’s Party, as the PML-Q is often called, will be almost eliminated from parliament. The PPP and PML-N, which strongly oppose Musharraf, will then likely form a coalition with the Awami National Party, a secular Pushtun movement.

If an electoral result that is kinder to the PML-Q is produced through tampering, and more chaos ensues in Pakistan - which has already been convulsed by rioting, kidnappings and suicide bombings for months - it could have sinister consequences for Canadian troops fighting in Afghanistan against Taliban and al-Qaida extremists who receive fresh supplies and weapons and rest in safe havens in Pakistan.

“The future of Afghanistan lies with Pakistan and the security of Pakistan effects the security of the United States,” said Mohsin Raza Khan, director of ARY News, Pakistan’s second most watched newscast. Should Monday’s ballot result in riots, there is a chance that the violence might evolve into a civil war that would “effect the whole world,” Khan said.

However things turn out here Monday, an alarming 89 per cent of Pakistanis polled by the IRI say their government should have no part in helping in the global war on terror in which Musharraf has been a key ally. That was up from 46 per cent only 18 months ago, as the Pakistani army has begun to more vigourously pursue what many here regard as a proxy war for the U.S. against the Taliban and al-Qaida in border areas.

“The more that the U.S. and western powers insist on retaining Pervez Musharraf as president, the crisis in our political system will continue,” said Tahir Amin, a professor of international relations at Islamabad’s Quaid-a-Azam University. “The strategic interests of the West are taking precedence over the democratic wishes of the people of Pakistan.”

Musharraf, who was repeatedly promised free, fair and transparent elections, has denounced several foreign polling organizations which found his party trailing badly, alleging that their surveys were “biased” and would do serious “harm” to his country. The polls had created false expectations that could “disturb the peace of this region. You are playing with the peace of the world.”

The president, who recently gave up his duties as the head of the army, warned those who might be unhappy with Monday’s results that “no disruption or violence will be allowed.”

However, Musharraf’s cause was not helped by the revelation Friday of an audio tape on which a voice said to be that of his acting attorney general, retired justice Abdul Qayum, confidently boasted that the PML-Q was certain to win the election. The tape, possibly made several months ago, was the lead story on all Pakistani news bulletins.

Pakistan’s election commission has received more than 1,200 complaints of cheating so far. The allegations concern bribes to acquire ID numbers in order to cast fraudulent ballots, the misuse and counterfeiting of postal votes, and fake reports which allow police to arrest campaign workers without charge, as well as kidnappings and shooting.

“You have to be careful not to broadbrush everything,” said Sheila Fruman, a Canadian who is country director here for the Washington-based National Democratic Institute. "But the parties have told us that there is a tremendous amount of pre-poll rigging.

“When there are such complaints, the election commission should investigate and either dismiss them or issue penalties but this has not been happening. The issues remain unresolved. The lack of action on these complaints have been frustrating, but despite the concerns and allegations of the parties, they are contesting the elections.”

Akbar Babar, a consultant who works on western aid projects, said that "rigging elections is a science that has been perfected to some extent in Pakistan since the last fair elections here in 1970.

“There is a choice now. The government could manipulate the result in such a way that everybody gets a little piece of the action so that there are some protests but the results are also accepted. Or they could go whole hog. If the PML-Q come out with flying colours, the worry is that those who have been left out will come together. I think that they will choose the first option.”

Despite Musharraf’s many assurances about the fairness of Monday’s vote, it was impossible during a sampling of public opinion in Islamabad’s working class Abpara Market this week to find anyone who did not think that supporters of the president would engineer the results in such a way that his PML-Q would do much better than it should.

“We fear that large scale voter rigging will prevent the creation of a true government,” said Hamad Raza, a 25-year-old driver for a mobile phone company.

“I can vote but to do so would be a waste of time,” said 40-year old Shahid Butt, who runs a business in Kuwait but was in Islamabad on extended home leave. “Nobody deserves this kind of election. What would really help this country would be if this election was fair.”

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

Daleel bhai. No need to panic. Nawaz Sharif is not taking part in the elections. :k:

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

You come up with the most PTV type of arguments to defend dictator and its establishment. Really PTV type.

If all major parties boycott these election, it will be a suicidal act for them specially PPP and PML who are participating in election after a decade with their high command in Pakistan. If they don't participate, it would be the same mistake that PPP made in 1985 election. Although those elections were rigged and tailor made to form a 'ji hazoor' parliament and form a establishment's darling party (PML) under a nodding puppet, Junejo.
Zia not only achieved all of his goals, but was successful in finding a counter-leader Nawaz Sharief for BB in the process.

Even elections are rigged, atleast a defeated party in parliament can do a lot of things, that parties like JI and PTI can't by sitting outside. There could be loads of pressure game that can be played even if PML Q is won (which can only take 15 seats in real), since MQM is in full mood to play BIG with Q League and PPP. Zardari also seems to cut a deal.

The above is said only answer your query as to WHY these parties are participating. For me they all are same that are raping this poor nation for 60 years. No NS, PP, Elahi, Mush or AH will dare to change the system. It is designed for them, they are the Ba$tarD product of this system and they will serve it forever.

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

How very ishmart, the parties know there will be rigging but they will still participate.. very very ishmart indeed just like most guppies. :)

Re: Fraud fears overshadow Pakistan polls

Ok, so I’m not surprised at these stories at all. But what would make you think these orders are coming directly from Musharraf? PML-Q is filled with Gunda leadership - perhaps the orders are coming from the Chaudries or from people under them that feel the need to bribe the police into doing these things for fear of the Chaudries.

Just citing a crime that has taken place in Pakistan doesn’t mean that the President is automatically responsible. What kind of logic is that?
