America and west countries but more pressure to stop this practice in Islamic Countries. After 1960s it has been removed from most of the countries including Arab Countries and after that other problems of adultery starts and spread very fast. But still they have slave girls only for royal families not allow for general public

I am not sure about the role of Slave girls in Subcontinent during Mugal Empire as there were many religions in this subcontinent.
and I assume that Muslim were treating them according to Islamic law, which means they are allowed to have sex with them. I am still searching reference for subcontinent but there is very less martial available about the Muslims culture in subcontinent during Mugals or before.

Seriously ? We can't make something haraam which has been made halal! We may not agree with it but we can't let our choices change Islam . Oh yeah if women had four husbands you wouldn't be able to tell which child was from which father. Go figure.
Polygamy ... Man that is just multiplying headaches. Why deal with all that drama when Muttah is available as a totally rad option dudes.

Understanding of Islam is difficult in non Arab countries because
1 Most people didnot understand Quran and Hadith Because it is not there mother language.
2 Some people read translations which are also done by non Arabic people.
3 People understand the meaning according to there own surrounding, there own culture. did not try to understand the meaning in the culture it come because they never saw that culture near to them.
So there is difficulty in understanding many things including
1 Slave Girls
2 4 Marriages
3 Haq Mehr Concept
4 Wali of girl
5 Marriage of widow
You have to understand the language and you have to understand the culture in which it comes to get the correct understanding.

No one is gonna be happy if her husband takes on a second wife, Ghost. Make all the arguments you want, it's a heinous thing to do. It's one thing if youre entire community is under genocide, which it essentially was during the time of the prophet , during which the provision was made to take on extra women. But that's not something that applies to today's society necessarily, and you see when there is no durress of survival on a population, polygamy becomes fairly tasteless.

Taking a second wife, for whatever reason (I'll maybe except insanity or coma), is a rejection and a humiliation.
I think OP's hypothetical scenario is so you can put yourselves in the place of women who are forced to accept it and to counter views that state how happy women are to share their husbands.
As for their possessiveness, a look at the MIL threads will tell you how jealous they are over the influence of any other woman over their immediate family. Their jealously manifests itself as resentment and bickering and not outright violence. It's not the less strong for that.
As to it's being common in historical times - it sure was. Women accepted it because they had no choice, and not because they were happy about it. A cursory look through literature (where it presents a woman's point of view) will show you that women maneuvered, manipulated, used violence against the other woman, and every other tool at their disposal to prevent this very thing from happening. Most folk songs tell either of men's threat to bring in a souten to keep the wife in line, or sing of hatred between soutens.
Polygyny is a tool to control women and frankly unacceptable in this day and age.
P.S I did read of co-operative wives in 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'..so here's my conclusion - about the only time soutens unite in friendship is in shared fear or dislike of a abominable husband.

Also, as a system it’s unworkable and results in violence. It can only be practised where the number of women far exceed the number of men - as in times of warfare and genocide.
Think about it - even 50% of men practicing it will leave the other 50% of men without wives and children entirely. That will create a frankly unstable society.
This is a good read - :). It presents a viable alternate viewpoint on how monogamy benefits men because the alpha males cannot corner all desirable women.

I would say only acceptable during times of war and where women far outnumber men. I think the permission was also given with that situation in mind.

Logical considering there were so many battles. The only other alternative would be capture of women from rival tribes.
I hope I do not have to explain why kidnapping women or forced marriage is unacceptable and that's despite the occasional slavery apologist turning up on the forums.
From an anthropological standpoint, polygyny has been acceptable across most societies, but was never as widespread as we suppose. In effect it usually meant the super-successful (rich, powerful,noble, intelligent - however a society defined success) would monopolize several women. The rest would sweat it out for the crumbs, quite a few would go without. But most men have always been monogamous through lack of opportunity if nothing else.

The average man should stop salivating over the prospect of a polygamous society. The men who would benefit would be the same ones - rich, famous, handsome, powerful; who are today forced to settle for serial monogamous relationships/philandering instead.
