No one is gonna be happy if her husband takes on a second wife, Ghost. Make all the arguments you want, it’s a heinous thing to do. It’s one thing if youre entire community is under genocide, which it essentially was during the time of the prophet , during which the provision was made to take on extra women. But that’s not something that applies to today’s society necessarily, and you see when there is no durress of survival on a population, polygamy becomes fairly tasteless.

Except that there are women, Arab women, who live under such arrangements. Are you calling something that is allowed according to Islam, heinous?
The provision for four wives was not made because of genocide, it was made to curb the men at the time, who had up to 8 or 9 wives. Don’t forget that Islam is an Arabic religion.
Again, my point is not to defend polygamy. If you’ve read any of my other posts you would see that I’m not very religious. My point is to show the contradiction between supposed faith, and practiced culture. The difference between you and me is that I’m not trying to use Islam to justify my opposition to polygamy.
Do I think men should take second wives? No, one is enough.

First smeone mentioned abt islam being any arabic religion.,so no its for everyone from any backgground…cus even hindus used to hve many wives at tht tme…islam was the first religion tht actually put a limit to number of wives u could hve…otherwise no religion hve any limit …
Secondly…one poster said religions r unfair to women…i dnt knw abt other religion but islam have given soooo many rites to women…and islam was the first religion to give rites to women…islamic hospitals were the first one to ever let any women enter a hospital…read abt islam u will knw how many rites a gal has…a gal dnt hve to do a thng for her husband…her only duty is to keep him happy…its not even her duty to breast feed her child if she dnt want to…
Equal does not means like 2+2=4
It is reasonable equal. Try to be equal as much as possible for human being. It is not equal like Mathematics or computer.
That is way all Sahaba has multiple wives and they divorce some of them and marry to other also. On the other hand all of them have slave girls too.
No you don’t need Nikah with slave girls. You own them. You pay money to purchase them or as a gift from war. They have some human rights but not like wife. You are allowed to have n number of slave girls but only up to 4 wives.
America and west countries but more pressure to stop this practice in Islamic Countries. After 1960s it has been removed from most of the countries including Arab Countries and after that other problems of adultery starts and spread very fast.
But still they have slave girls only for royal families not allow for general public
