Former US president Bill Clinton has appreciated what he described as the fast development process in Karachi and said this city is emerging as a new business hub on the world map and will attract investors the world over. He announced that the Clinton Foundation is establishing its permanent office in Karachi to specially focus on the city and he would visit Karachi soon. He expressed these views in a meeting with City Nazim Mustafa Kamal during an international conference organised by the foundation in New York from September 26 to 28.
Re: Former US President Clinton gives Karachi a clean ‘bill’ of health.
MK needs to weild, in addition to his khudal, his sword against the nasty elements in his party so that the progress contines and we do not see things like the ones happened on May 12.
Re: Former US President Clinton gives Karachi a clean ‘bill’ of health.
^ Not all of the city comes under the nazim's jurisdiction [DHA, karachi port some examples] so he can't be blamed for everything unlike a city mayor in the US or UK!

There you go being so defensive about the MQM nazim, even though I never even said if it was his fault or not...

Come on dude, no electricity, lack of clean water, pollution, crime, lack of facilites, increasing traffic with no roads, failing structures need I say more? Its ranked very poorly in the cities of Asia, according to Asiaweek.

so what?
there are many areas in New york City, Rio De Jainero which are just as bad as Karachi
but that doesnt mean we look upon these cities as slums
Re: Former US President Clinton gives Karachi a clean ‘bill’ of health.
The majority of Karachi IS a slum right now, and getting worse... Please stop comparing NYC to Karachi... All it takes to get Karachi down is a rain shower... When the same happens in NYC, maybe then we'll feel good
Re: Former US President Clinton gives Karachi a clean ‘bill’ of health.
karachi's infrastructure is under strain because of migration from hinterland and because of neglect of past administrations as well as under performance of the economy in the 90's. poor migrants attracted to the city because of jobs have no choice but to settle in slums. unfortunately because economic situation is stagnant in interior and in nwfp, i dont think flood of migrants will decline soon. nor will karachi get the necessary resources needed from the govt. nazim's effort has to be applauded because the only way city will progress is if nazim can attract investment on his own. politicians from nwfp should take a page from his book and learn to do upnee madud aap rather than relying on handouts.

thats true but didnt the same happen to bombay in the rain showers a couple of years ago when the entire city drowned
but no one is calling bombay a slum?
many companies are moving there to set up operations

This is Pak Affairs bhaijaan, not India Affairs, so we need not worry about Mumbai, and I am sure if whatever you said happened in Mumbai, the Indians are probably admitting and doing something about it...
