hmm If i remember it rite, it was during the Hazrat Umer (RA) khilafah that such a decision was made coz of muslims armies had gone too far in the world thus leaving their wives behind for long time.

exactly^ men were leaving for war and jobs. they would leave their wives for months if not a yr. Thus leaving them deprived of their needs.

however keep in mind the 4 month period..... it is wajib for a MAN (yes a MAN!!) to have sex with his wife at LEAST every four months. This is one of the conjugal rights of the wife.
