^^ I was wondering how Pir Sahab forget it :D .... and loota stainless streel chamakta howa !

A lot of Blacks are in New Kirk / Foster, and desi’s too. Its not a good to live with so many desi’s if you are alone !

Re: First Apartment (NY)

Newkirk/Foster is considered pretty bad because of the hoodlum type of desi boys that hang out on the corners at night...No offense to anyone who lives there or has family there.. but alot of the families that reside there are cheapy low class people... its gotten better after 9/11 where alot of the filth was deported or went back on their own but it hasnt improved drastically. Not a place you wanna stay at if you've got family. I personally could never live in that type of environment where theres tons of pakistanis... not a good idea. Its better to stay away from there...

Ok Firenze most of the better neighborhoods start at/around avenue o and go all the way down to sheepshead and stuff... so I'd say you should look around a bit. Park Slope is great... but further away from Prospect Park of course. If you hang with more of the downtown crowd, you would really like it there. I'd advise you to look at Bensonhurst, Sheepshead, Bay Ridge, and Marine Park for a balance of desis and other races... and these areas are cleaner, nicer, a tad bit pricier but definitely well worth it. If you have the money, check out Mill Basin... My family used to live there practically our whole life... its a REALLY nice clean neighborhood and close to transportation and the mall...

Re: First Apartment (NY)

^^ 100% Agreed !

Why recession & economy slump didn’t drive the prices down :bummer:

Re: First Apartment (NY)

Re: First Apartment (NY)

I'm in NY too lol! I lived in Forest Hills, Queens...a very pretty upscale, safe area. I grew up in Long Island...a seaside town about 2.5 hrs from NY by train. Also pretty and safe. I lived on 86th and 3rd Ave in Manhattan and loved it but would not raise children there.

Now I live in lower westchester which is about 30 min north of NYC by train. School district is in top 10 in the nation, taxes are obscene but with 3 boyz in school, its worth it. If school/kids are not in your near future, you dont need to worry as much about these things.

Man, thats an expensive area where you live now, if I mark it correctly. I live in mid-longIsland. The thing which I'm really worried about is its increasing taxes which makes a direct impact on almost everything.

Re: First Apartment (NY)

OMG I hate to even think about it. I LOVE our school district...but our tax is about $1200 per month. Thank goodness our schools are as good or better than a really good private school and the services they provide to my special-needs son are beyond awesome...so its well worth it yeah?

If I were single and not looking for best schools, I;d not choose to live here. But something that makes us feel really good is that even in the midst of the dire housing failures in the nation, my area is not affected, the house prices are still the same.

So! Mid long island! I lived in Sayville, exit 61 on the expressway. LOVELY!! And also for a while I lived on the North shore near huntington. My mom and dad grew up in and near Port Washington. I guess because I grew up on the bay, I have seashore in my veins now. In high school, I worked in a clam bar. I went clamming, crabbing and fishing. HOW I miss those things and look forward to teaching my boyz!

I'm at exit-53, 495. Technically its not in the mid of longisland but still its 1 hr from nyc by train or car.
I think someone who has recently moved from Pak or any other state and has no family should start from Queens/Bronx/Brooklyn. Sometimes I just wonder how would it look like living around Jackson heights. But yes, when you start the family you gotto move out.

I'd come from Karachi and was enjoying a very social, active and fast life over there. So I didnt like it in LI cuz life is different here. And I love it when I walk on the streets of NYC. That sounds something similar to what echoes my mind.
