^Why would you drop a seamer when ur gonna play on a seamers wicket.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
1-Kamran Akmal
2-Imran Farhat
3-Younis Khan
4-Mohammad Yousaf
5-Inzamam ul Haq
6-Asim Kamal/ Faisal
7-Afridi
8-Umar Gul
9-Shahid Nazir
10-Razzaq or Samiullah
11-Danish Kaneria
should start with Afridi rather then Kamran
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
^razzaq will play for sure, and they will add another seamer. So it will be Razzaq plus three seamers. Not two with razzaq.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
then might be Afridi out
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
It would be a tragedy if Afridi is dropped. Guys like Sami and Farhat get a free ride regardless of their performances, but poor Afridi is made an easy scapegoat. Atleast Afridi has past performances and POTENTIAL for future performances. Can't say the same for Farhat or Sami.
Call me a cynic but there is no arguing for Ehsan has said. Our openers are just a formaility and there will always be tremendous pressure on our middle order. We had 2 years to solve the problem and we couldn't so I don't see it getting resolved during this series. And as for our bowlers, 3 frontline bowlers out, and with the selection committe operating on the parchee system, no one is likely to replace them.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
Since we have our regular openers playing like Afridi anyways, I for once will root for Afridi opening with Taufeeq.
Taufeeq
Afridi
Younis
MoYo
Inzi
Faisal
Batting is reinforced this way.
Akmal
Razzaq
More support for batting.
Niazi/Nazir
Gul
Kenaria/Sami
Either you go with one Leggie (afridi) on a seaming wicket and play four pacers or keep hanging with two leggies and 3 seamers.
Bottom line is, we can't correct our long term opening problem in the middle of this important series (specially when we did Tanta in last three months of preprations). If we need to accomodate Afridi (sp for his bowling) play him as an opener to save a spot for No. 6. We need Inzi and Faisal to reinforce batting line up and prevent collapses. If Afridi fire a quick 50 that would still be far far better than single digit regular openers these days. Plus its time to bring Niazi/Nazir. It can't be worse than what we have seen already. So lets give our new seamers a chance on this suitable wicket.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
afridi out for yasir arafat(all rounder),sami out for shahid nazir, iqbal out for taufeeq omar.the rest should stay the same.Sami is doing absolutely nothing with the ball he does'nt swing it and on top of that he has lost a bit of pace as well he is below 90 mph now,so whats the point of including him.Arafat can bowl as fast as sami and can bat as well so its a good replacement.Afridi can't play like that in english conditions, he either has to change his game or be shown the door.Iqbal has'nt done anything special so he should be replaced by a second opener which Pakistan desperately need at the moment after Akmal failed miserably.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
Yasir is not even in the squad, please read first.

Re: Final 11 for Leeds
I guess, they'll keep sami too.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
i agree with skhan, our openrs r nothing, i think they should call back IMRAN NAZIR,
atleast he can save some runs in the field and might be good as a openr too
lets see what they gona do this time
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
skhan, I know this bowling had troubles bowling out England. They were never consistently threatening to begin with. If we look at 2005 when Pakistan visited India, the situation was even worse, where there was flat track, hostile environment and our backs against the wall against probably the best batting line up in the world. Result, we came out with a 1-1 draw that pretty much felt like a victory. What was behind it? Passion and determination, if we look at how Afridi, Sami and Kaneria bowled and how we fielded, we know who inspired them and it was Inzamam’s inngs and Younis who was just magnificent. Inzamam may not be the best captain but the respect he has among his team-mates makes all the difference and we know they will follow his lead. If Inzamam scores big, we are in a good shape of winning this Test because he is the difference maker. He can change the momentum of the game with his inngs and that is what we need.
If you replace Sami or Gul with anyone, it is still a weak bowling lineup. If we replace Butt with anyone, it is still a weak opening partnership. Days are near and it seems that these two departments are weak and lack great amount of confidence. Someone from middle order needs to inspire these youngsters with a great knock and I think Inzamam can do that job. I believe the lineup, whatever it is, will give its best but to take them into second level they defiantly needs to be motivated. That is the only thing missing in our team.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
^ Yes you are right, but from what we have seen so far in this series, the level of passion and commitement is not even a fraction of that shown in the Indian one. Like you said, I hope they find inspiration from somewhere and pick up their game a notch.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
The burning question is who will we see in in the bowling attack? Is it going to be the same combination of Gul, Sami, and Razzak along with 2 spinners (Kaneria and Afridi) or if they are going to replace Sami by Nazir or Naizi?
I don't think Pakistan will be dropping Afridi or Razzak. Afridi has been effective in bowling and this will be his plus point when they will decide the Final 11.
It is highly likely that we see Fathat as the only change for the Leeds 11 (Taufeeq taking his place). Have to see if they are going to replace Sami or not.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
Is he out because of his injury to his finger or hand. What if he hadn’t not been injured - it would have been interesting to see if he would have been dropped.
Even if he is dropped - his partner in crime Butt may be given another chance. If Butt fails again - then Farhat may be re-called for the final test.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
Probably due to “broken finger”, but our think tank is known to drop a player citing some ghost “fitness/injury issue” in past, but this one is welcome ![]()
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
“I suppose in modern cricket you are looking for seven batsmen and four top-line bowlers,” said Woolmer. “Whether we can do that at the moment, it’s not easy. But we might have to do that and tell the players to take responsibility and get on with it. We’ve got to be upbeat. If we want to win this series we’ve got to win the next two games. We have to come out positive, forget Old Trafford and put it right behind us.”
From the article linked above. Woolmer uncle, I am glad you are learning
, Test matches are not won using bits n pieces players.
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
"We would probably go in here with four seamers I should think or close to that.
“It looks a much better surface than I’ve ever seen at Leeds,” added Woolmer.
“It’s quite dry now. I suspect there won’t be the sort of bounce we saw at Old Trafford but we’ll have to deal with any surface we get.”
But asked if Pakistan were likely to drop Kaneria, who returned disappointing figures of one for 106 at Old Trafford, Woolmer said: "I wouldn’t say that was a possibility, no.

:hmmm: Chacha Woolmer apna mind make up tu kar lo
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
Four pronged attack = Mohammad Sami (2 prongs), Umar Gul (1), Abdul Razzaq (1)
the prong-game decrypted, finished, over!
Re: Final 11 for Leeds
After Woolmer's recent statement regarding 7 batsmen and 4 bowlers in a test side, I think Pakistan 11 for Leeds will be
Taufeeq
Butt
Younis
Yousuf
Inzi
Razzak
Akmal
Sami
Gul
Nazir/Niazi
Kaneria
Taufeeq, butt, Nazir/Niazi will come in place of Farhat, Faisal, Afridi.
What do you guys think?
I guess I am just getting too anxious to hear the playing 11 for this test:D
