How about a silver-plated container for baby's first lock of hair or first tooth.
You can get them at gift stores where they do engraving. They are quite nice....all velvet-lined and everything.

I thought about it too, but got a massive headache to know they all come in different sizes.. I never knew that, I thought any diaper can cover the tush but apparently not.. sigh

$100 is good, a lot actually if it's just a co-worker. I say stick to $50. Babies R Us or Toys R Us stores are all over the US. Look on the Internet for a location near you.
I don;t know why money/check isn't good- I'd take that over gift card since you can use it anywhere and it doesnt expire. $100 is generous for a co-worker, but good for a close friend. It might still be generous for a friend if you are a single student or something. but if you really want to and can help the couple out, $100 will be well appreciated.
