Espresso Lahore protest

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

As I have stated if she WAS NOT ALLOWED to pray fault of espresso. If she was given option to pray her fault for demanding special place. She is praying to good per her inner need to pray - not per what society or Pakistan deem to be the norm.

And what are those norms for the poor and homeless? You of all people always rail against 1st world problems. Here it is an uppity class problem, no?

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

So how difficult was it for the lady to find correct direction in the Espresso?

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Again Southie you are making the point the lady was wrong. According to Pakistani customs, norms and the views of society at large she wasn't. In our society if you are out and ask for a private place to pray people do aid in providing it. And as a few people on GS have already stated they have prayed at said cafe. So she was in her right to ask about it.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

I know a man who calls that person "Sharayi" who offers prayers, quotes something religious during any discussion etc. Now some wannabes have that kind of mentality that they can't help making fun of those people who speak single word about the religion, ye to phir Namaz thi jis ka mazak urrana aisay log apna haq samajhtay hain.

Why is it that Pakistanis only remember that they live in an Islamic country when they wanna fight about Islam or point fingers at others for being a bad muslim? Otheriwse, religion yaad nahin rehta.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Sad times.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Not sure which group of Pakistanis you are talking about.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

This is definitely blowing things out of proportion

should there have been a spot set aside for prayers at espresso ...maybe

if there wasnt one should they have made a temporary one to accommodate her...probably

but if they hadn't could she have not prayed in her car or at the table? ...probably

there are ways that could have ensured that this wasnt made into a bigger issue than it needs to be...i feel like both parties failed on that account

she should not have been denied... if they didnt have a prayer space they should have temporarily given her "a corner"

when push came to shove she didnt have to make such a public fuss about it...she could have taken it up with management or prayed at the table or in her car (ive done that and its not an unacceptable practice)

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

OK. Point taken. The Espresso staff it seems could have accommodated her. Ramadan Mubarak to you, CM.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

If I put myself in the lady's shoes, and I imagine some dude telling me I can't pray in the restaurant, I would say okay thanks and go pray elsewhere.. in another shop, on the side of the road, in the car, at the table, in someone's house (yes people are actually nice enough to let you in their house to pray, we did this all the time when we were on a road trip).

Now Pakistani customer service isn't the best, the staff can be really rude, so I'm guessing that's what pissed the woman off or may be she called for it. In any case, protesting over this is absolutely ridiculous! Way too much free time on those people's hands.

And I won't worry about the extremist end of liberalism taking over until they follow in the footsteps of some western countries and ban praying on the streets, ban namaaz breaks for school/college students etc.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

exactly

there was no need for such an extreme reaction as protesting…jahan protet karni chaahiye wahan karte nahin aur aisi choti choti baato pe karne baith jaate hain

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

No reason to protest. But they could've provided her with a space.

Sometimes both sides can be wrong....

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Agree with your postsx- would gently like to point out - at least in US it is the right wing that would like to impose restrictions. The progressive liberals believe in live and let live. So these policiescare outcome of leaning to the right.

While I don't know European politics it is my understanding more right leaning parties have come to power and are responsible for such restrictions.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

^ Many people equate liberalism with (militant) secularism. There's nothing liberal about intolerance of religious belief/practice.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

exactly they were both wrong

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Amusing posts. So people actually think this is a liberal conspiracy hatched by some 19 year old behind a counter trying to work a coffee machine. How is this an example of religious freedom being denied. She was snubbed? Shocking. Customer service is usually stellar in Pakistan. You'll be met with the same reaction asking for extra napkins, but since this relates to religion the footmen of the Islamic Republic are up in arms.

Gotta love Facebook/Twitter activists. They won't get off their privileged asses to protest the country drowning in debt and terrorism, but a Defense Phase 2 Aunty must have her justice. This is probably the same Aunty who'll mow other women down at lawn exhibitions and underpay her domestic help. Allah is nowhere to be seen then.
