Espresso Lahore protest

So just yesterday, a lady was snubbed by the Espresso Cafe, Lahore’s staff when she asked for praying space. In return, people protested at this. Now the Twitteratis are all flooding with tweets mostly making fun of people and the lady primarily who wanted to pray there.

Do you think she was wrong? Should restaurants provide prayer areas for people esp seeing this is Pakistan ?

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

yes they should..she had every right to protest...it doesnt make sense especially in ramadan when all these restaurants offer various ramadan buffet packages..but no space to pray!!

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Do they at least have good cappuccinos?

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

So…no religious freedom in Pakistan now eh? Oh well. The Liberals have indeed won

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Why not jut give her a space to pray?

Why some people are insisting her to pray on chair? :smack:

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

There should be praying space in every Restaurant

No need for making Fun of the lady

People are just too much

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Wow… :bummer:
Considering there are prayer rooms/ mosques being built in international airports to accommodate to everyone’s needs, I’m shocked that a, mostly, Muslim country wouldn’t consider this as something important.

I see nothing wrong with her standing up for what she believes in and kudos to those who have her back and are helping the cause. If I was to go somewhere, even in the States, and ask for a space to pray, I’m sure I’d get some awkward looks but I’m pretty sure I’d get a little corner. If I didn’t, I know a news station would be hearing about it :snooty:.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

I think in the grand scheme of things, this all stems from pakistan trying to get away from this hardcore conservative image that it seems to be associated with these days. Peoples attitudes in general i mean. Its actually kind of ironic because pakistan was founded on very secular values. Muhammed ali jinnah was a very secular guy so its mind boggling how pakistan came to have this hardcore conservative reputation that it does today. Anyways ive gone off on a tangent...........

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

This is such a useless argument. I remember praying in espresso 'at a prayer space' last year. Probably waiter is a newbie and wasnt informed properly.

But talk about making mountain out of a molehill

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

This is such a misunderstanding spread by some people for their reasons.

First: Secular does NOT mean being anti-religion. It simply means separation of Govt. from religion. People are free to engage in religious affairs. Some countries and people have made this up as anti-religion movement.

Second: MA Jinnah never said to not allow a woman to pray at a coffee place. ;)

Third: What you consider hardcore conservative is merely a regurgitation of what you hear or read on media.

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

maybe i don't understand - why does a restaurant or cafe have to provide prayer space? they are in the food business. and even mosques often don't have space for women to pray. shouldn't she just pray at home?

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

What's espresso?

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

Delicious is what it is!

Re: Espresso Lahore protest

when restaurants are giving special iftar 'deals' and offers as part of their Ramadan promotions shouldn't it be understood that people who are there to break their fast would also want to offer their obligatory prayers? I think such restaurants and cafe's should at least give certain praying space to these people if not have a separate prayer area !

The point is that the woman was snubbed here by the staff. Did she ask for something wrong? Don't think so!

Pakistan is now seeing a new era of extremism , the extreme leftist/liberal attitude.
