That's just disgusting. In my opinion though, this has way more to do with the regional jahaliat. Where I grew up, although majority were sunni and wahabi, there was a big Shia and Christian community and all of us lived peacefully amongst each other. Ironically, to stop the Jahliat is through public education which in turn is through school books. I mean aren't you an example? You read the same books.
regional jahilyat is spread from Karachi to Khyber, while were busy enjoying Veer Zara. :D
So why the coward Porus accepted the offer to be invader's ally and agreed to hand over land and power to him once his head was spared in that epic surrender? The fact Alexander spared a captured King says far more about Alexander than Porus.
Alexander was quite literally just interested in conquering the land, hoisting the Greek flag and moving on to his next target destination. He was not there to harbour any unnecessary animosities and feed rivalries as long aa he officially won or people surrendered to him. His aim was to not completely colonise the areas he invaded to establish any systems and spread the pearls of Greek civilisation.
Because due all this selective approach while teaching history, Iqbal is one of the major causality. If you just limit your study of Iqbal to the extent of text books, you can’t appreciate his variety of thoughts, which can equally accommodate all school of thoughts including fascist liberals
Read! I said ethnic cleansing of Pakistan's history, not people. Big, big difference in case you notice.
I know what you meant, only a few posts back you were likening me to nazi. Thank goodness wrist slitter hasnt turned up in this thread so far. Muslim invaders turned up in 712 AD and in Punjab/KPK (1000 AD), why glorify only the Muslim ones only and not the ones who existed 2500 years ago (like Alexander and Darius). We are producing Nazis as a result of the current history since we are teaching kids to hate people on the base of religion. I know that you havent got your basic education in Pakistan. I and many others have had a pleasure to study in the country where we were taught that Hindus are tiny and weak, they live in squalid conditions (entirely opposite in Western countries) and other similar generalizations. While teaching us these things why did they forget that the country has a tiny Hindu minority. Why do we have inferiority complex that we cant acknowledge our past? The education system is converting people into zombies, the hatred that we see these days in people due to sects and religious differences hasnt popped out of a vacuum.
Besides, did you not say Raja Ranjit and some other coward King should be Punjab's heroes as opposed to foreign Arabs, Persians, Turks and Afghans invaders? Go on, what exactly is your argument for calling Porus and Raja Ranjit your 'heroes' other than the fact they fit your self pleasing sons of soil criteria? Speaking of sons of soil, do you have any idea how Punjab's present day population owes its wonderful mix of ethnic diversity and racial make up to those foreigners who established communities and populated the rich, fertile land of five rivers. By randomly throwing in the manipulative neo-Nazi - natives good, foreigners evil - arguments, you are subsequently disrespecting the heritage of those groups whose familial lineage has roots outside of Punjab yet today they are just as Punjabi as everyone else in Punjab. But I'm interested to know what percentage of Punjab's population is ethically pure 'native' Punjabi and what percentage carry the damned foreigners' blood. Who are the real sons of soil and who are still 'outsiders'. I'm gonna debunk your argument on every single level to show the how dangerous and poisonous that mentally is if it is not properly challenged and nipped in the bud.
Mate, all people are not Arabs. Do you by any chance know that Jatts (Scythians) and Rajputs are Central Asians. They migrated to South Asia 2000 years ago, are we disrespecting them by not acknowledging their history?
Scanned the article and honestly, that is the biggest pile of bs I have ever read. I studied in Pakistan up until 7th grade, never once was I taught to hate "nonbelievers" or "Hindus". Neither was I ever taught to only glorify religious figures or blindly hate India. How can someone who has probably never set a foot in Pakistan come to such a conclusion as presented by the writer of the article, sounds like a nutcase to me.
Good on you, I have studied till University level in Pakistan.
In the text books, Iqbals Shikwa and BuDhay Baloch key Naseehat is what i can re-call, and both does point out fingers of our fall as a nation… but you are right, my father explained to me Shikwa in other way and my teacher in other way. My teacher was more focused on
“RahmataiN teri Aghyaar kay ka’shanooN per
baqr girti hay tu becharay muslmaoN per”
Qahar tau yeh hai ke kafir ko milen hoor-o-qasoor,
. Aur bechaare Musalmaan ko faqt waada-e-hoor
per they conveniently forget to answer it by Iqbal
Adal Hai Fatir-e-Hasti Ka Azal Se Dastoor
Muslim Aaeen Huwa Kafir Tau Mile Hoor-o-Qasoor
History should be taught without any personal opinions about a figure or an event. Unfortunately, this is not the case among many education systems in the world. The West is somewhat better but still has some major flaws when it comes to this subject. The agenda of modern schooling is the same throughout the world, that is, dumbing down of the masses. If you're lucky enough, you'll find out the truth once you're out of school.
