Re: Election Results for the National Assembly

I think people may just be overwhelmed by the righteousness of the results - like who would have thought that Musharraf's staunchest allies would get trounced like this.

After such vicious turbulence of the past year or so; sky rocketing commodity prices; annihilation of independent judiciary; the free elections may seem like a breath of fresh air. But, what exactly lies ahead? Whether the parties will be able to iron out their differences to kick Musharraf out - it would require both parties (PPP and PML N ) to be staunchly united and for the most part it's unlikely. Musharraf's only way of survival is through 'divide and conquer'. I think when all the dust settles, he might be able to galvanize the support of ANP, PPP and MQM to get keep himself in power...but only the time will tell..:)

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly

poor zubeida jalal betrayed by Mush she's lost her seat.

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly

Pervaiz Elahi ka kya howa?

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly

I dont think anti-mush elements are THAT strong in PPP (though there are some) to get him out of presidency. This is why Its likely that Mush will survive because of PPP, ANP and MQM.

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly

Right, even if PML - N overwhelmingly conquers Punjab, it still can't win the battle of removing Musharraf on its own.

It needs PPP from Sind and quite clearly the support of ANP from NWFP. If PPP comes in second, it could easily go into alliance with the parties apart from PML - N to form the next government. I think it will be under immense pressure to do so from the external as well as internal "elements"..

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly

Good point. Also it needs PML (Q), as it still has a majority in the senate. A position that will not change until March 2009 when the next Senate elections will be. Any govt that wants to pass any bill needs to get it past by the Senate aswell.

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly

Chaudhry Mukhtar of PPP has defeated Shujat.

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly

So the obvious question that arises as the numbers clearly show PML(N) and PPP coming out in major sweeps, is:

Will Musharraf live upto his word and finally resign now that it has been made clear that majority of the public dislikes him?

If i recall correctly, he said the day it becomes clear that majority of awam do not want to see him around, he will resign. What better way to show that than now :D

And...he said if the outcome of the elections is not "favorable", he will quit.
So will he, really? really really?

:D
