Re: Election Results for the National Assembly
ANP so strong all of a sudden...have I missed something?
The strong showing of ANP in NWFP is a message from the people of that province that they are sick and tired of what is happening there. Good for them.
Re: Election Results for the National Assembly
There are 10 Pakistan-wide seats reserved for minorities, which are nominated from political party list. For example, if one party gets 20% of the general seats, then it will be able to claim 2 of the 10 minority seats, and put a minority candidates from their own list to fill those seats.

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly
ANP was always strong in NWFP except in the last elections when the religious parties manage to surpass them by uniting under the banner of MMA. ANP can be a dangerous party to root for as well because of their occasional separatist tendencies, but when compared to MMA, they should definitely be accepted as lesser of the two evils!

Let us believe they are the lesser evil after their new setup of the party :)
Re: Election Results for the National Assembly
As far as ANP strong showing, one should look at the total percentage of the votes casted. Also, JUI (F) always had a strong showing in the past. Not this time, as Fazal has lost all credibility. PPP was oncde popular in urban areas of Peshawar, and Swat to some extent, but that was until Sherpao was part of it. The nationalist / secular vote has now switched to ANP. For the most part, the religious vote, which is the perdominant part of NWFP has stayed out due to dismay with JUI (F) and absence of Jamaat Islaami from the polls - just my 0.02..

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly
It's well known here that I am a Musharraf supporter but I am rooting for the scenario that Anti Musharraf parties sweep the election, and force Musharraf to resign thus establishing a precedence for removing rulers people don't like through 'democratic' means which will go a long way in establishing democracy's credibility in Pakistan.

Re: Election Results for the National Assembly
Shaikh Rashid and Shujaat Hussain both are losing in their home cities.
Lahore and other cities in punjab have been pro-pml(n) while PPP has been pretty strong all over the country. pml(q) is embarassed.
