EID day traditions

I’m curious. Do any of you guys have any Eid day traditions?

Eid is coming up and usually on the first day of Eid, I go out right after eid namaaz and buy a whole load of candy. It looks like Halloween in my house. Lol anyway, so I buy the candy, bring it home and proceed to see if I can make a record of eating it faster than I did last time. Then whatever is left over, I share with the guests that come to our house all day. You know, things like competitions with kids about who deserves the last Toblerone and what not. Lol

Anyway, any thing special you like to do?

Re: EID day traditions

In our entire family the Eid is celebrated first day. We all pick and decide one house where every family and family friend comes over right about lunch time. And then they stay till late night. Its a lot of fun for one day.
We all my cousins play (american) football that we call as "Eid-bowl". So overall it turns out to be a good day normally. The downside is that after this day Eid celebrations are all done, packed up, unlike Pakistan and rest of the muslim world.

Re: EID day traditions

A typical eid day for us is going for namaz dressed in our finest and then we go straight to multiple eid brunches hosted by friends. Then come back take an hour or two of rest and then go out again to another dawat in the evening. Some of these dawats may be pot lucks too but mostly are arranged by the host. If the next day is not a weekend then we have eid parties on the weekend too. This year, the next day of eid is a weekend so we have parties, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Oh and throw in a chand raat party for ladies too! I have stopped cooking sheer kurma on eid as we never have time to eat it.

Re: EID day traditions

Eid day consists of Eid namaz, breakfast at mom's that all of us cook and then dinner at one of our places...Eidi is distributed to the babies and a movie with the family at night!

Re: EID day traditions

used to have Eid traditions. But then all my sisters got married and I moved from place to place for school. I don't even know when Eid is anymore. I wish I could go back to old days. Things were much simpler and easy and stress free

Re: EID day traditions

We exchange presents on chand raat at my mums. On eid I get up n make sheer kurma. We all go for namaaz. Then come back to my mums for lunch. The. In the evenings go to friends or take kids out somewhere.

Re: EID day traditions

My (just made) tradition is to give a non halal eid hug to the person posting right after me

Re: EID day traditions

Aww. Sounds like a nice gathering :)

Re: EID day traditions

Ok that just made me sad :( why don't you make your own traditions with any other muslim friends that you know of? Or ....I think u need to get married :p

Re: EID day traditions

Didnt know bhajan was a tradition on this day.

Re: EID day traditions

I miss the good old days of getting eidi. This growing up game is totally no fun. Lol.

Re: EID day traditions

Lmao. My bad. It was supposed to be "bhaijaan". I love how you appear whenever there is a typo :D

Re: EID day traditions

I would like to file a formal petition to steal the concept of “Eid bowl” and use it as well. Thank you

Re: EID day traditions

I make kheer the night before.

On Eid day, the morning is always a bit busy but usually hubby and kid 1 go for Eid prayer, I clean the house and prep whatever I need to cook. After Eid prayer, my brothers, cousins and brotherinlaw/cousininlaws come by and I serve them kheer and saviyaan (not semviyan of course :halo: ). We eat, chitchat and off they go. Kids get their eidi from dad and me too. Then I finish cooking and get dressed and we join everyone at my parents. My parents usually host the Eid day for everyone and everyone means all my parents siblings, their kids, their kids inlaws etc. It’s pretty fun and nice. I get more eidi. I usually stay the night at my parents with all the bhabhies, we eat and chitchat.
