The way Shawar's parents are handeling the situation wisely , is remarkable. How her mother brushes off her complaint abt the jahaiz things being used in inlaws home. Her father's pacifying attitude, playing a key role in her accepting/bearing the new challenges she is facing.
Indeed, how parents handle these situations (be it a son or daughter) affects their lives a lot. Notice, how calm older Shawar remains when her daughter complains abt her husband.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
It's a well-directed drama....has a very natural feel to it. The only downer is Sofi.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
i kind of feel they’ve shown women working in a bad light… not that they havent shown haider in a badlight either… but just because a women works, she doesnt go around showing off her money.. and her husband doesnt feel threatended or bickers about i with her the whole time ![]()
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
^^ yeah unfortunately that's what some people will perceive if they haven't watched the drama from the beginning and have only caught a few episodes here and there. The problem is more with the characters' egos than the fact that they are both working individuals. Nadia Jamil had commented on an article someone published online lambasting the same fact - showing working women in a bad light - and she said she would not have accepted the role if that was what was being conveyed since she's a working woman herself with kids.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
^ ur right.
I do get the whole ego thing because in episode 5 where sh eis commenting on how she can buy stuff cus she's going to be using her money... i thought that was just a recipe for disaster.
I guess its more of an ego battle rather than who works and who doesnt. And even less about money.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
I think it's not working women the main issue is ego n difference in their opinion , or lack of understanding n somewhat immunity also.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
Apart from the ego issue......Nadia Jamil needs to tone down the nagging...it's a relationship killer. As a female viewer...you get annoyed with it...and men (in general) seem to be even more turned off by it.
What if it gets to the divorce stage and they're discussing the division of assets....and neither one of them wants the scary Sofia.....and the conversation goes like this:
Noman Ejaz: "You are the reason this marriage broke up....you take sole custody of The Sofia. A growing girl needs her mother."
Nadia Jamil: "I will not ask you for a dime.......if you keep The Sofia."
Noman Ejaz: "I'd rather you take me for all I'm worth. But I ain't keeping The Sofia."
The Sofia looks at her mom and her dad and says with scowl: "Mummy, Dadddddddy.....I don't laaaaike you"
Parents look at Sofia and say in unison...."We hate you too, Sofia!!!!!"
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
What TERRIBLE parents durr e shahwar and her hubby turned out to be! Their daughter shandana is a monster. I guess durr e shahwar was too busy feeling sorry for herself to teach her daughter anything and her hubby was too indifferent to care. tsk tsk.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
^ Sheesh, you really hate Shandana.
A lot of what they showed about her character is just normal, she's a working mom. Just because her husband makes enough money doesn't mean she has to sit at home and be a housewife/mother only. Haider's main gripe seems to be just that...it's kind of odd. Yeah, she's def the nagging queen...but I'm sure she went into her 'love' marriage with different expectations. It's the same old story of every married couple who complains...you're in this routine and nothing's really 'romantic' or 'special' anymore, and everything the other person says seems like a subtle jab or nagging. Shandana and Haider are pretty much portrayed to be the average couple of today.
As for younger Durr e...it's not about her not getting salad lol, it's more like she feels neglected by her new family members. She doesn't feel welcomed by them. She thinks of how her own family is at the dinner table and it makes her sad. In situations where you feel you're surrounded by hostile people, the slightest thing can feel like a stab in the back trust me. Sanam does a good job showing that.
I love the psychology/dynamics they showed of Durr e Shahwaar's husband...I mean, as a hubby he's terrible...but as a father he wants the best for his daughter. Really interesting.

I dunno... the younger mansoor does seem to care about his wife a little. I think he is just torn between his family and wanting to show affection to his wife.
The scene where he brings bread and makkan for shawaar for brekky is soo sweet and then he just gets in trouble from his mum. Plus, all the scenes in Khaariyan.. show that he does have affection for her, its just in a different way.
I even liked the scene where he tells her off for calling from the PCO. He's posessive about her in a very manly/angry way.

I totally can relate to this drama. It is a beautiful piece of artistic expression. Shows how talented Umera Ahmed, te cast and director are. This drama is not as far fetched as Humsafar was (altjough i absolutely loved that drama) Many of us who married into families with less economic stabilibity can relate with DeS plight, feelings and anguish. My own mom's story was similar. Her family was very wellto do and my dad was husband and educated like mansoor. She did have to face a lot of hardships in the beginning. Alhumdollilah inlaws later appreciated everything.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
Shandana reminds me of her dad when he was younger, she seems to have taken after the dad rather than the cool minded durr e shehwar. Still haven't figured out what exactly the bone of contention is btw the younger couple, the job? the kid? her nagging? his demands? Clash of egocentric personalities? it's definitely an interesting watch though, well directed and very well written.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
Wow…I must say the drama is kinda dragging now in this latest episode HOWEVER im just loving how it is so close to real life. How this father is going mad for the way his daughter is being treated but he once did the same with his own wife.
Gosh, i am just loving the portrayal of this reality! :k:
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
I was not watching this considering the disastrous projects like Asghari Akbari, Kuch pyar ka pagal pun by Haissam.. but today I got chance to watch thanks to crappy bollywood awards on geo and I'm loving it :)
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
At first, I didn't like this play... I thought that whole Shandana/Haider was way too much larai jaghray but now when we get to see Shahwar's story and how its being compared to Shandana's I am loving it. We always complain about our lives but we forget how much our mothers/MILs had to sacrifice. Ours is nothing compared to that. Besides everyone else's acting, I am also liking Saba Faisal's acting. She scares me. Almost like my MIL, don't know what she won't like.. lol.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
I just caught up on all 10 episodes, and oh my goodness, it is so so real. I don't feel like I am watching a drama, it just feels so real. I think everyone is doing a great job. I am a big fan of Nadia Jamil, but here she really is the nagging queen, it is kind of painful to watch the constant fighting between Shandana and Haider, but the comparison with her mom's story is pretty good.
I am also really liking the characters of Shahwar's parents, especially her dad - the way he explains things is just so nice. Although I wonder why did he get his daughter married into such a family. :(
Can't believe I had not watched this until now! Super happy to have find out about this, soo sooo soo much better than Mata-e-jaan. In fact, there's no comparison between the two..haha.
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
i guess nadia jamil is a good actress or so i have heard...but somehow i m not liking her in this drama, maybe its her character?!
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
Thank God Qavi doesnt have red hair in this one
lol

I think she's doing a really good job of us not liking her by playing the pitiful working woman/mother. She wants everyone to feel sorry for her because she has a really tough life and nobody else does :D
Re: Durr-e- Shawar - A play by Umera Ahmed
i saw couple of episodes last weekend. it is slow but interesting drama. it constantly focusing on comparison between father and husband. well, father (kavi khan) is an ideal husband in this age in the eyes of nadia jameel but she never knows his past. ![]()
as a father in law, he is too akhar and bad mizaaj as he used to be with his wife when he was young. i can say, it is kind of double standard when it comes to his daughter he forgot all his past action and blames his son in law. ![]()
