Re: dupatta-free trend
urrghhh why do they stare so much in PK and not here... yuck
was watching some fashion show on Hum2 the other day, and the clothes were very... revealing. Mom stopped by and said ' yeh pakistani models hain?' yup...
Re: dupatta-free trend
You are right ! Second gaze is haram ! Men in Pakistan are used to staring and looking you up and down. When you are totally covered they probably have to rack their brains out figuring out how she looks underneath that burqa . That's not always a easy task you know.
Dress up for your husband...there is sawab for that. Often times I see so many worn , myself included we fail to do that. Heck some of us won't even change our clothes for a week if we didn't have to go to that social party and look gorgeous for that family or social circle event. of course if you go to work at an office you will dress up.
LOL this made me laugh! In reality all men look some make it obvious whilst others dont
Re: dupatta-free trend
I likw the no dopata trend ![]()
Re: dupatta-free trend
i dont like it
aisa lagta hai na mukamal libaas pehna huwa hai…
Re: dupatta-free trend
According to my view dupatta depends on the style of the dress.
Re: dupatta-free trend
i dont like it, feel so incomplete without dupata
n most important it depends on location where are you wearing it, i just came back from pakistan n noticed this trend i was in pharmacy and the shopkeeper instead of attending me was staring at other lady without duppata, it was really disgusting i noticed this thing throughout my trip ladies roaming without duppata n men are starring them badly.
Re: dupatta-free trend
It depends on the cut/style of the dress..if it's a traditional dress then a dupatta looks nice but if it's a kurta, kaftan etc. then no dupatta's. Men will stare when they want, they even stare at women in hijab and in abaaya's.
Re: dupatta-free trend
^Agree.. They will stare regardless..
Re: dupatta-free trend
I dont think its about men staring at women .. its more for a woman herself to keep her own dignity .. A dupatta is not just a style icon , it stands for covering ones dignity ... Its beyond my understanding that in a bid to copy the western culture and in the name of worthless fashion women would give up a symbol of their dignity .. Whats the next step of this fashion? tighter shirts ? and then smaller AND tighter AND dupataless shirts ... I think its just a small minority who get carried away with these kind of fashion trends, the majority still have strong preference for dupatta ..
Re: dupatta-free trend
totally depends on the style of the shirt. Kaftan's, flowy long tops look lovely without a dupatta. Infact dupatta is very redundant with all that fabric (not to mention a complete nuisance). Regular shalloo kameez look rather silly without one.
Re: dupatta-free trend
Women in Turkey wear western outfits with hijaab's, same thing in Syria.. they have dignity too! So do the women that wear western outfits, as long as you are covered and not wearing transparent outfits it's all good isn't it?
Why is it okay to wear tops and jeans/trousers without a dupatta but not a shalwar kameez?

That's what we want to think. But the Quran states to cover your bosoms.
Allah says: "And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what appears thereof; that they should draw their head coverings over their bosoms…" Sûrah al-Nûr: 31]
That is the fact. We can comfort our minds saying Atleast I am better than so many others, but we still aren't following the word of the Quran. And i am one of them :(
Re: dupatta-free trend
A top/blouse covers the 'bosoms' just as well as the kameez does doesn't it? "Bosoms" can even be seen through an abaaya.

Exactly..
Re: dupatta-free trend
One should cover their "bossom" while wearing eastern and western outfits. Whether it takes a dupatta or hijab or chaddar or scarf. I realize and agree that shalwar kameez just looks nicer and put together with dupatta but just because its not part of western outfits doesn't make it okay to not wear something like a dupatta. So, those that think one must wear it with shalwar kameez and not western outfits are unnecessarily and unfairly judging the women who don't wear it with eastern or western outfits.
Re: dupatta-free trend
covering bosoms = not painting the skin or wearing anything that doesnt show your skin there ! It means the shape of the body should not be revealing.
for me, it is just that if I decide to wear a pakistani dress (modified according to current fashion like shalwar suit/pants with a kurti/sharara dress, etc kaftan is not our thing so wont comment on that ) I need to wear the complete version of it which includes a dupatta, a shirt and a pair of bottoms. Long skirts, pants, maxi dresses or any western attire doesnt need to have a dupatta for obvious reasons !

and that's where you are wrong. Many shalwar kameez are made loose where one can argue bosom shape is not revealing therefore a dupatta is not needed. On the contrary most western wear is much more skin hugging and revealing therefore something is needed to cover the bosom shape.
Re: dupatta-free trend
^ that's why I said FOR ME,when it comes to pakistani fashion, it is *shirt+bottoms+DUPATTA = *complete set. ** dupatta nai pehenna tau I wont ruin the shalwar suit thing and opt straight for pants and western styled shirt kurti/shirt.
Re: dupatta-free trend
exactly!!! another thing to keep in mind is that the bra was only invented in the 20th century, before that women basically had it all hanging out there
so they needed multiple of layers of clothing to some-what camoflauge their bosoms.
For me bra+ non transparent shirt is coverage enough for my bosom. Without a bra if i wear shalwar kameez +abaya I’ll look very trashy (yup tried it one time at home). so i agree with you that it’s unfair to categorize a type of clothing as sacred and another as trashy.
