Dr. Shaista

the jackass knows that pessimism, doom and gloom and anti-government propaganda/sensationalism sells very well in Pakistan... our ppl just don't like any kind of stability plus they seem to hate the govt - doesn't matter which party. they just imagine that all politicians drink blood. and Shahid Mossad is capitalizing on it. I bet the jackass is a millionaire by now spewing hatred against politicians and a democratic government.

he's got such a bee jamalo/Naseem Hijazi attitude towards very serious matters. the jackass conducts the show at such a stupid level and focuses on so much interpersonal crap/rumors. I also read some Naseem Hijazi stuff when I was a kid. but I grew out of it. daaaaktar Shahid Mossad never did I guess.

Gina, you should watch the 4 Man Show episodes where the boys ripped apart his charade. loved it. he also showed up on an episode of "Off The Record" where Nadeem Afzal Chan (a PPP MNA who seems like an honest, straight man) ripped him a new one. loved that too.

Someone called him "Mr. Masood" and he blew his fuse! He forced the caller to add "dr" to his name..

he deserves to kicked in his doctoral nuts. retard.

Re: Dr. Shaista

It's called "enhancing your marital CV"...

Big whoop. That's their prerogative.

You have finally realized the hypocrisy among your own kind.

Re: Dr. Shaista

Ok i really like this lady. there are only two female hosts i really like one her n another Hina khawja from Geo Hina k Sath.

Re: Dr. Shaista

Wow, talk about jealousy.

I love her show, I think she has the brains and looks that more than the majority of the girls here on GS aim for. So stop being jealous and appreciate a fellow Pakistani woman making you women proud. So what if she don't practice medicine? At least she has the ability to give medicare if one needs to on the spot, DO YOU have that ability? NO. So stop whining and go work on yourself first. Ungrateful women.

I find her annoying as well. She has a typical pakistani mentality. She doesnt let anyone else talk, her guests are interrupted by her all the time.
Just because you wear designer clothes(which are given to you by the designer for their advertisments) doesnt make you classy.
The way she talks is all slang urdu, not classy at all.
She and her brother Sahir Lodhi are such wannabes. They were in the US for a while and i dont know why they went back to pakistan. And now all they do is brag about loving pakistan.
Somebody ask them if they hold a greencard! doodh ka doodh paani ka paani ho jaiga, lol.

Anyway, enough.

Re: Dr. Shaista

can’t decide, is this thread shaista bashing? or just another paki bashing thread by a certain someone?

Re: Dr. Shaista

Do you realize that alot of girls go into medicine due to family pressure and not actually like medicine? Ton of ppl in my class are only doing it to make their parents happy. And mbbs is a joke in govt colleges in pakistan. Im in one of the best ones in the country and i havn't learned shi*t.
And not to mention, Dr. shaista is making ALOT more money doing the talk show than she would be if she were practicing medicine. Unless you become a neurosurgeon or something, media pays ALOT more compared to an average doctor salary in pakistan.
In the end, its all about money to be honest. You go where you get paid more.
Regarding doctor crisis in our country, well why would someone want to pursue medicine here when it will take them atleasdt 10 years before they can get a decent paycheck? who wants to wait till they are 35 or 36 to be able to earn enough to support yourself and family?
House job pays about 6,000 rupees a month. You spend a year doing that and then become RMO with equally less pay. My driver gets paid more than that.
After that you try to specialize and pass FCPS. Ask any doctor latey HOW freakin hard it is these days to pass that because our system is so unfair.
I totally don't blame any mbbs grad for not practicing in pakistan.

Re: Dr. Shaista

And im SO tired of people saying "oh its about serving humanity and not about the money". EVERYONE wants money. you need money to live.
If a tv channel offers me 8 lakhs per month just for sitting on a couch for an hour and talking, i would give up my practice anytime.
So would most of you, but its just easy to judge a doctor because they are "supposed" to be serving humanity.
Another thing i would like to mention here is that people get into medical colleges at a very young age in pakistan. Usually right after inter when they are just 18 years old. At that age, they DONT know what they reallly want to do so they pursue whatever their parents tell them to. Theres NO FREAKIN GUIDANCE COUNSELORS HERE to discuss future career opportunities. If you are smart, you have to go into engineering or medicine.
Thats why in US, you have to be done with undergrad beore entering so that by then you realy know what you are getting into. Not everyone can handle the stress that comes with practicing medicine. Mbbs is literally a joke, trust me .

Re: Dr. Shaista

I agree with most of what you say tammy except the part that you are taught nothing much despite being in the best govt med college? Maybe that's just an individual based remark? I finished my graduation from a good govt med college here in Lahore 6 yrs back and I gave up practicing anesthesia 3 years ago and without being in touch with books during this period, i can still manage patients(anyone in family or around who comes up for advice) as well as doing minor procedures like stitching a small wound or aspirating an abscess. That all depends on the amount of interest and concentration you've put in your course as well as on the institution as well.. Warna khud se books parh parh kar tau koi bhi doctor bunn jaye :)

I like Dr. Shaista but i'll say it again, I don't like the fact that she and many other people who choose to do MBBS/MD change their field. They could've given someone else a chance to make a difference. NO its not about giving medic or helping someone out .. my thing is.. with medicine being so competitive in Pakistan, some needy as in financialy needy person could've really used that seat. My husband is a doc, all my siblings are my MIL and FIL are docs as well. I know they've worked hard and I see how much they love helping others and making a difference. If its just about making more money WHY WASTE THE SEAT. Everyone realizes that in Pakistan there is more money in media .. ok fine .. so lets not waste the seat and get admission in a college/university that gives degree in media/communication.

This thread I guess is not about hating her on personal level, but hating on the fact that many people like herself waste seats to have that DR in front of their name.

LOL at gawaar! Yeh she is highly annoying, sometimes she has this attitude of hers in her shows.

I’ve seen the 4 man show.. lol

Buy me spikes and watch me chase him and do the deed :flowers:

Re: Dr. Shaista

what about those people who do teaching courses but then don't go into teaching?

or those who study law and then don't practice it?

or those who become accountants and then suddenly decide they want a career change?

or someone who studies dentistry and finds out that they made a better career out of being a wedding planner?!

so what if dr shaista did a medical degree but doesn't practice it b/c she decided to have a career change and become a tv presenter! its **her **life and her choice to do whatever she pleases!

we should just learn to be happy for others. why should we look down on these people and start judging them?! its their life and their choice to do what they please. there is too much in life to enjoy other than worrying about other people's lives and why they made the choices they did!

Re: Dr. Shaista

PCG, this is not a recent trend. Its been there for decades specially before the new buzz words like BCS, BBA, MSC, MBIT etc were not around and 'only respectable' degree for a 'smart' girl would be MBBS.

Re: Dr. Shaista

I didnt know who she is so I went googling. It sounds like she went to med school because this was what her parents demanded of her. This was not something that she chose to undertake. But it apprently gave her a springboard to do something that she truly loves to do. I have to admire her for that. And critisize parents for forcing their kids into things that arent appropriate - whether its marriage or career.

Annoying or not, this woman is one who knows what she wants and worked hard to get it. You gotta love that.

As far as wasting a med school spot, esp when pak is in such need of female docs...well this comes back again to the parents who force their girls there while knowing full well that they will never practice. The girls typically obey their parents yeah? Whether its mariiage or college. THAT has to change.

That's fine, but if this is how one feels (meaning they were pressured into it), is it really right to show off that you are a doctor? Not you personally, but people who do this.

I have so much respect for people who move to Canada and are doctors who actually go back to school here and redo all their exams and become practicing doctors here. They are the ones who truly love the field of medicine.

One woman I knew was newly married, had a newbord daughter, but that didn't stop her. She was a qualified doctor from Islamabad, but here obviously she was not recognized as anything. She had to start from scratch, and she did it, despite having a new husband, newborn daughter. She also had no family here, so no real support system. She worked her behind off and is now practicing medicine here. These are the people who deserve to be called doctors and respected as doctors. Not the ones who come here, sit on their behinds and say, "hum tau doctor hain".

Re: Dr. Shaista

Every individual has a right to education. What they do with that educational degree is THEIR choice and we shouldnt really judge them and consider them to have wasted a seat ....

An educated woman, will raise her future family in a much more aware and an educated manner ... I believe its not fair to put conditions on her that just because she chose to study a certain course , she will be compelled into practicing or else she will be stripped of her degree ...

And seat or no seat is a pakki pakistani mentality ... they fight on seats ... and ignore the hard work and effort one puts in to achieve a degree and an educated status.Plus before judging her please keep in mind that people might have their own reasons for not practising what they studied ....

Re: Dr. Shaista

I want to ask you all one other question, a woman completes her education , and later chooses to be a housewife ... and doesnt feel comfortable persuing a career , or opts for an easier career perhaps due to hours of work , level of activity etc...

Will you attack that lady for being educated and wasting it? or attack her that she chose her family over her own career? or attack her for choosing her priorities in life ..

Re: Dr. Shaista

^ yes..they do. I am asked a LOT of questions by almost everyone I know.. I have opted to take a break until my kid(s) are of a school-going age because I dont personally feel it is justified at all to borne babies and send them to baby sitters or hire a nanny to look after them while I am at work UNLESS ofcourse in situation when my husband doesnt earn enough to run the basics (which is Alhamdulillah not the case with me). It is ME who’s responsible to look after my son and husband and I dont think I can give my best to my family AND my work if I am practicing because medicine is something which doesnt deal in machines that you can re-do or undo what goes wrong for some reason. It needs proper concentration and I know I wont be able to do a thing if I know my baby is sick back home while I am at work or situations like that.

My simple answer to any such ‘inquiry’ about not practicing is that Hospitals are working well without me but my home wont ! So I am working where I am needed more. :halo:
