Does the military still control Pakistan?

Re: Does the military still control Pakistan?

If military is so anti-feudal, then why hasn't it abolished it in its rule instead of becoming a feudal elites itself?

My take is that the military really doesn't want to buck the system too much since a powerful and clean system would audit the military itself. Iss hammam may sab nangay hain.

Re: Does the military still control Pakistan?

^ I didnt say army is anti feudal, they are not backing feudal either.
Yes, army would not make you a system which will have a check upon them, politicians have to do it. infact, system is in place, only honest leadership is needed.

Re: Does the military still control Pakistan?

Yes, Nawaz sharif received UN speech from GHQ hours before his speech.

i mean why is it not obvious, Army general commutes or orders execution of people. He makes policies, he launches operations etc. I doubt he will follow orders if NS asked him to attack india or shoot down drones. but at the same time NS will do whatever RS wants

Re: Does the military still control Pakistan?

For the lust of power and money N$ can do anything. Even he is prepared to work as 'chaprasi' and sit outside of CAOS office.

Re: Does the military still control Pakistan?

Re: Does the military still control Pakistan?

Fair point. I was giving input in regard to the question in thread title in that the military was significantly more dominant in the past and that in recent years due to the opening of the media and public activism they would have to think twice before any military takeover or grabbing power.

With regard to COAS, yes as head of the army its their duty to defend internal and external security, but not interfere in domestic or foreign policy and let the institutions function in this evolving democratic setup.

I disagree, a constitutional amendment would give way and the system would remain status quo hostage to one entity.
