for being vocal. Lately we only have seen "intense kind" speaking their minds.
We being quiet was making them feel they were right.

And the point of the thread has been derailed by immaturity. Yes, i am adhering to the idea that this place is very much representative of Pakistan.
And you started it with the extremely ridiculous attack on someone's choice of username.

Re: Does GS represent Pakistan?
Really? Then you shouldn't go to Hajj, because I'm sure the Arabian government is rich enough to build some arrangement where men and women don't do the Hajj together.
Smoking is not haraam. Its not discouraged either, due to the bias of a culture of hookah smokers.
Dancing is a Pakistani practice, and that's culture. You can't take away culture and expect everyone to live like you. That's your problem. You expect peopleto live like you. Do you see us moderates complaining about how you guys DON'T dance? No, beause we respect your beliefs and say fine, and don't complain. In fact, we respect extreme beliefs so much that we've let a bunch of Extremists build their factories of hate on our borders and allowed them to take over our villages, and render a number of human rights abuses that put BB and NS to shame.
No, you guys associate the beach with all evil. I rarely see conservative muslims taking a picnic out at the Beach in the States, or in other areas of the world. The beach is automatically associated with nudity, because again, you people fail to keep an open mind and you fail to respect the rights of others to not follow Islam as rigidly as you might (or make yourself appear to follow - you never know these days).
Your calling others' posts immature? You have not read my post that you've quoted.. Hajj is a necessity..
Smoking not discouraged? I think you live in America, the Ulema there do discourage it.. Pakistan too.
Dancing is not a Pakistani practice, it's a Hindu practice..
Beach with all evil. Again you live in America, where you see nudity, doesn't take a rocket scientist to think that "conservative muslims" will not be present. In Pakistan they do take a picnic even niqabis, I am sure you've seen.
Anyways, your going with your personal agenda as I see it. good luck
Re: Does GS represent Pakistan?
Existing is a necessity - living life is a necessity. You can't expect women to do that just from being locked in their homes. That is injustice. Whether you like it or not, muslim women all over the world are active in their community and work and exist alongside men. If you want to go back to the Stone Age, then you need to maybe go to Saudia Arabia and just stay there.
Re: Does GS represent Pakistan?
There is a huge difference between being practical and providing oral pleasure to random guys from beach parties.
Re: Does GS represent Pakistan?
Since when is dancing in a club, or hanging out middle of the night with other guys considered being active in their community? Gee, i’ve never been on a beach in my life or been to a club, does that mean I’m not really living or existing?
Your logic is really flawed here..Being active in the community can be working and earning money in respectable professions (medicine, teaching, academia, law etc), volunteering for organizatinos to help fellow Muslims, taking your children out and exposing them to the arts and teaching them to be aware of how other people live, THATS being active in the community. Not sitting on a freakin beach wearing a burka…
Re: Does GS represent Pakistan?
Or may be we just need to tell gora-kind pakis that we in pakistan have a very full filling social life with out going crazy about certain stuff.

That's what I am talking about.
I wanted to know if Guppies living in Pakistan represent majority of Pakistanis.
Re: Does GS represent Pakistan?
^ yeah,
we need to be more vocal I guess. Or people will keep maligning reputation of country/values etc
Re: Does GS represent Pakistan?
I pray to God Pakistan is not like you. The problem is, with 70% illiteracy, I know for a fact that most Pakistanis are just as narrow minded and stubborn as the people on this website.
You're more than free to not wash your beard for a month or beat yourself with a whip whenever you want. But the moment you impose your personal fetishes on other people - whether it be by wiping your wife or your telling your neighbour not to dance, we have problems.
The problem in Pakistan has always been a moderation versus imposition type of battle. It has never been between secularists versus islamo-psychos. It's imposition that we hate. Moderates are sick and tired of mullahs imposing religion and Mullahs are sick and tired of politicians imposing policy. The problem is imposition - and not just ANY imposition but the type of imposition that is loud, obnoxious, and unbearable.

Because most guppies are loud, obnoxious and unbearable - GS sure does a great job representing Pakistan. PyariCgudia, you're right - its not something to be proud of.
so your'e suggesting that on pakistani beaches, women should be allowed to dress in any which way that pleases them, ppl shouldn't have restrictions in this regard, and no one can tell them to cover up as this is whats prescribed in the Quran & Sunnah? oh, and ppl who wanna practise religion shud do so in mosques and their homes, but not let it seep into the country our forefathers fought for! remember being scantly dressed is not "ISLAMIC", so it shouldn't be allowed in the ISLAMIC republic of pakistan!
rules are made to benifit ppl, bcoz the minute we loose our sharam & haya, we loose everything! (i cant find the ahadith right now :( )
No matter how late at nigth it is or how deserted the streets are, I cant drive at 100km/h on a 60km/h road! its against the law to, or do u call that imposition as well? we happily abide by these laws (either bcoz we think theyr'e good for us, or wer'e afraid of paying the fine), so why not abide by the rules that Allah SWT has set through His Messenger SAW? this would be of benifit to us in this world, as well as the next Inshallah.

Re: Does GS represent Pakistan?
Desperate House Wives or Sex in the City does not represent USA in general also (although lot of people love to belive that they do)
One hour show, be it a drama or documentary can never give a total picture
Re: Does GS represent Pakistan?
everything I listed is part and parcel of our society.
I have not yet listed begger gangs, baygar camps, bonded labor, aashna, people abusing service workers liek mechanics, waiters, etc because the poor targets are powerless, many masajid in the same mohala because one is deobandi, one is barelvi, one is something else.
again no judgement here, just noting diff aspects of out culture and society that are the reality.
oh and before I forget, forced assaults on women based on idiotic panchayat rulings on backwater moronic inbred towns where because some gu has an aalleged affair with some girl, then her family/khandan is entitled to have multiple men force themselves on this guy's sister/mother/daughter etc. or they can be kind and just force the girls of that family to marry guys from the girl's family..
hmm what else...
I mean really dunn seem like all ills of our society..of the islamic republic of Pakistan can be blamed on a handful of burgers who amount to less than .0000001% of the population.
There is plenty of wrong stuff, yet our focus is on the lil tiny group.
I guess secretly everyone enjoys some masala talk..get their jollies off admonishing in absentia these girls and guys drinking, dancing and all..how dare they
dont they know, if they stop that we will be a model islamic country..
shame on them

true... the things u have listed have no place in an Islamic country. The reason why everyone was talking about the burger ppl is bcoz this is what the documentry was presenting... had it presented more of the other side of the coin, then i guess we'd be discussing that here.
the jahaalut that u have mentioned... it doesn't take too much to recognise how flip it is from the rulnigs of the Islam. Girls getting nikahfied to the quran ?!?
The problems we face is bcoz Islam has never been truly implemented in the Islamic republic of Pakistan :( had this taken place, ppl wouldv'e been long educated to stop the ridiculous rituals they follow.
However small the "burger" population, they are the ones with both the money and media in their hands. Despite being a small percentage, they are the forefront of changing what the norms of what a Pakistani Muslim ought to be! last year while in Paki, flicking through the tv channels, there were hardly any dramas where ppl weren't involved in some sort of chukkar; hiding from thier parents and going out on a date... oh and wearing sleeveless and capris are so-cool! its not the poor of our society that are bringing about these disgusting changes, its the rich & "modern".
I'll re-emphasis that the practises of the poor are equally disgusting at times, but they know no better and very little effort is made to enlighten them otherwise in respect to the teachings of Islam (which are quite contrary to their practices).

A bit off-topic, but just wanted to put the facts straight. Who told you that women in Saudi Arabia don't work alongside men? The percentage is very low, but there are quite a few women working in Saudi. Some of them are my colleagues.
