Does God Exist?

Re: Does God Exist?

Not when the beliefs are based on facts and undeniable proof. "Faith" by definition is a belief that is not based on proof.

Everything about religion, faith and spirituality is nothing more than opinion. Granted, some more thought out than others. Some with more scripture or followers than others, but all are opinion. You can tell someone all day long why you ahve the beliefs you do, but don't expect anyone to provide evidence for the existence of any God.

Re: Does God Exist?

Semi, do you not count the existence of this universe as proof of existence of God?

Re: Does God Exist?

^^ I don't!!!

Re: Does God Exist?

The link between faith and belief is trust...undeniable proof on such matters fall squarely in the realm of the rhetorical...unless you have some sort of formal proof on why humanity is good, or worthy of life. Some things people take as axiomatic...and as such, their beliefs, in spite of all the paean to logic and proof, is no more than faith. I'm afraid the argument does indeed go well passed cosmogony and evolutionary debates...for the more imaginative, I'd really like to see a moral system based on so-called undeniable truths which are nothing more than proclamations.

Re: Does God Exist?

DP that is why its called faith. I would not call it blind/foolish because they are smart people with different perspective. I respect them equally as I would an athiest. Having different faith in my book is not enough to label them as foolish. If somebody is satified with his religion without any proof of existance of God its their prerogative.

Well what about them?

No its not, they have their own reason to do what they do. As you may have your own/or not reasons to follow your religion which probably are not good enough for me.

Somewhat agree. Will read once more afterwards though.

STP in that case please accept my apology.

Hey USR, aaj biwi ko paye bananay ko bola hai, so thats what is cooking at home, you are welcome to join. LOL

Agreed.

Pico this thread reminds me of the last discussion we had. Most of the new people who were not here at that time are all getting excited with the topic and thinking that they are bringing something new in the discussion. Chalo time pass hi sahi.

Re: Does God Exist?

Peace my answers in underlines ...

1) WHO!!! - *I like them too. some very nice songs*
Not I

2) Who is the one who puts so much love in the heart of the parents that even the most selfish person gets ready to sacrifice his needs for his child. - a combination of 3 factors: natural instinct to preserve lineage + pride of production + retirement planning
If so then isolate the instinct, pride and desire to plan for retirement and provide the essence of those factors outside the body and insert them in to a chair if you are true to your words of self-appointed authority

3) Who is the one who feeds us when we are inside our mother. - the mother ofcourse!
It cannot be that those who have no cognisance of their actions are attributed with the honour of such ends

4) who is the one who converts days into nights and nights into days - normally the planetory orbit around the light source called sun but two other causes possible namely jet travel and excessive alcohol
Why should it be so that we have a moon and a sun that we have planetary motion at all? Science cannot tell us this.

5) Look at the sky, why do not you find any crack in it. Who has made it to perfection. Try looking again, every time your eyes would get tired but you would not find any crack in it. *cracks are usually found in the rear of organisms, not in the front. that's why you find cracks on the earth surface....just kidding.

Really speaking, you do know there is no such object called sky and therefore it cannot crack up
*

yet we see the sky and it is a set of domains that exist. Each layered over another. 1400 years ago we are alluded to about these layers. The question still stands. Randomness cannot create such beauty, harmony and perfection ... read up on entropy

6) who is the one who gives different taste to fruits of different trees, although the same water is given to all trees. somebody called Gene
This somebody called Gene is himself subjected to the phenomenon of the above so circularity does not answer the question

7) Who is the one who is able to make infinitely different faces of infinitely many people although they all have the same 2 eyes, one nose, one mouth and two ears. respective parents ofcourse! atruly collaborative effort I might add
This does not answer the question, but they themselves are subjected to this condition

8) who is the one who makes the finger prints and *retina of eye **of all the humans different from each other - *same as above
false as above

9) who is the one who feeds the ants under the stones. nobody; if they are really under the stones food is their last problem. Otherwise they go get the food themselves. you can try it yourself - just pour some sugar on the floor and see what happens
Obviously not a scientist ... how do they know about the food? This will lead to investigating their function and hopefully lead to a realisation that such small entities are so sophisticated ... yet theories depending on chance try to prove their development and dismiss them as simple undeveloped creatures

10) Even a single stone cannot move from its place on its own, how is the whole universe controlled in such an organized manner on its own. Who is behind it ??? density, gravity and orbital dynamics mostly, with some help from Spielberg and 3PO
But why should this be so?

11) Who is the one who converts us from child to a young and powerfull person and then to a weak old person - that good old Gene + everything around you + what you eat and drink
Don't commnd the tool for doing the job of the operator

12) who is the one who helps a human being when he is helpless and all alone when the human dosn't find anyone else to help him.* Depends on help with what. But in most cases self help works*
Inconclusive answer ... think again

13) who is the one who sent us to this world for a time which is negligible as compared to the time before and after us ( applicable to every human) parents
parents are part of the us in the question

14) Who is the master of earthquakes, winds, storms, floods, and others....If you are talking about the movies, whoever that guy Austin Powers fights with - I forget the name; If in real life, pate tectonics and biosphere dynamics (you know, actions of heat on water)
How can those things be attributed with the reasons behind such when those things themselves have no congisance of their function? A function that produces a consequence is itself a consequence of something that preceded it

15) who is the one who helps a seed grow into a little plant and then grow into a tree. the farmer and the gardener
Who helps the helpers? For not every seed germinates and not every farmers will survive to plant another day

16) who is the one who made each and every human being from a single drop. parents
They themselves are part of the above criteria

17) who is the one who orders for rain when humans become totally hopeless and find no sign of rain - the umrella maker? just kidding. again het on water
Does not answer the question

18) Just concentrate on your ownself, you would feel there definately is someone behind its creation.Who is that ?? parents
So them people are appointed as lords over themselves ... parents have a role for respect due to the position as carers, protectors of us. They have been used to provide the organic material for our production, but they are just as helpless as the babies in that process

19) Who is the one who created all these mountains, seas, rivers, oceans, trees. Who is the one who has made the ground uneven. heat and tectonic actions mostly
Who ensured that these actions would produce such effects?

20) Who is the one who helps the sheeps and cows make milk for you. the dairy farmer
haha

21) Who is the one who created love for you in the hearts of your parents. Same as #2
ditto

22) who is the one who traps your ships in strong oceans and then when you find noway out but death, he listens to your prayers and helps your ships reach the sea shore. *the ship's pilot*you are the ship's pilot dummy

23) Who is the one who feeds the largest and smallest fishes in the oceans.*neptune? just kidding. it's the planktopn+fish eat fish formula*yes ... that process is generally true, but then why does this not prompt thought of the ridiculous theories of evolutionists who suppose that their simplified dynamics are explanations? You will get small fish that are most totally predatory and you will get the biggest fish (whales really) that are veggies. And what makes these separate entities sources of food for one another, if any one of those animals is taken away you will get extinction of other species. This interdepdence and symbiosis of nature begs the question that something of sublime conscience has had to be intervening in this overall process.

24) who is the one who bless you with happiness when you go through the toughest time in your life The ATM machine, the halwa maker (Mr.Johnny Walker for some kindered spirits!)
The question still stands

25) who is the one who gave a human the ability to think and understand better than other animals. *Parents + Teachers *
Animals have parents and you can be their teacher ... the question still stands

26) who is the one who made this universe limited and left no way for you to leave it. - it's not limited...ever expanding universe
It is limited despite it's expanding nature

27) Who is the one who makes the full moon on some nights and half on others. nobody...it is an optical illusion
Who gives us the pleasure and insight and usefulness of such an optical illusion?

28) who is the one who orders the sun to rise from the east and set in the west. Again, earth rotation based optical illusion
Again optical illusion it may be, but it provides an essential basis to a time calculation system, evolution cannot ignore this enough. There is no link between illusion and our undying need for such 'illusions' but we see we depend on such illusions as though they are real

29) who is the one who gives the birds the ability to fly and doesnt give the same ability to other creatures. - anybody or anything with wings and proportionate weight params can fly. eg: airplane
[/QUOTE]

who ... not the how

You assume that the world is harmonious, beautiful and perfect- now substantiate these claims.

Re: Does God Exist?

What difference does it make if God exists or not?

There's in fact very trivial difference between atheists and theists.

Both believe something - one believes God exists and other believes God doesn't

Neither has proof but believe they have proof

Neither are given. One becomes the other as mind broadens.

I personally like the idea that there's somethig out there that prompts goads cajoles and regulates. Even if it is people doing such regulations themselves but attributing to God.

Problem is when these nuts take it to the extreme and start living their lives in holy fear - does quran allows you to wash left and then right? Does quran allow condoms? Does quran allow women opening their eyes when there's light? Just plain dumbos!

Even if God exists, if this is what his role becomes, he'll quit existing. In fact looking at the mental instability of muslims when it comes music, art, women......may be Ummm is God's sign that he's about too quit on you guys if you don't hurry up and get some sense on these barbarian customs practiced in the name of God.

You guys imprison girls in the name of god, practice polygamy, discriminate in inheritance, support the teenage mutant jihadi nuts all in the name of God. Osama just went one step further than you and started shooting, again shouting Allahu Akbar!

Why wouldn't Allah quit?

All ye religious nuts - behold your messiah Umm! Harken the warnings Allah is sending through his prophet!

Re: Does God Exist?

No, I don't. Ignorance of the unknown does not necessitate a super being to make it all happen.

I don't find any formal religous scripture that *does *have a moral system that is based on undeniable truths or as a whole is worthy of God.

Re: Does God Exist?

Granted yet the less our ignorance becomes it keeps getting more and more apparent that there is something that created all this.

Re: Does God Exist?

Actually the advancement of science is taking the argument in the other direction. Thousands of years ago the scientific theories of creation, evolution, etc did not exist.

Re: Does God Exist?

Right they did not exist, and even till now they are just theories. A theory is just a theory no matter how much trust we put in it unless we can replicate the outcome of the theory practically to verify it. So far none of the theories have proven the facts alluded to in the Quran as false. We can stretch the argument but it does not hold water. I haven't read Hindu scriptures so I can say nothing about them but Bible I have read somewhat. In genesis there are fixed time frames given for evolution of generations since Adam, which makes it loose ground against the scientific theories.

Re: Does God Exist?

I don't think that the Quran goes into enough detail of scientific mattes to have enough "facts" to refute.

So we are content with the theory that all of mankind - with their different races, skin colors, languages, etc - are all the ancestors of just 2 people? This is just one example of scripture defying scientific fact AND common sense. Or do you believe Adam and Even were created hundreds of thousands of years ago?

Re: Does God Exist?

"The idea that God is an oversized white male with a flowing beard, who sits in the sky and tallies the fall of every sparrow is ludicrous. But if by 'God,' one means the set of physical laws that govern the universe, then clearly there is such a God. This God is emotionally unsatisfying... it does not make much sense to pray to the law of gravity." - Carl Sagan - just for your reading pleasure

Re: Does God Exist?

No actually, most atheists are freethinkers- most of us don’t believe that God as represented in major religions don’t exist. An impersonal God may exist. The very principles governing this Universe may be God. Such people are called weak atheists, or sometimes agnostics, etc…

LOL. I agree.

:hehe::hehe:

Re: Does God Exist?

i guess i'm agnostic but Hindu festivals can be so much fun.....I have to enjoy with everybody else:p

Re: Does God Exist?

Highlighted is good. I agree with that view of God but don’t consider myself atheist, weak or otherwise.

Of all the rejoinders and responses given to Ummm’s great questioning, Tariq’s response has by far been th eonly one that made any sense.

So should we start calling you Prophet Ummm?

Re: Does God Exist?

POST OF THE DAY.....

Re: Does God Exist?

so like most atheists, you believe in an impersonal God ummmm?

in terms of “ummmm the God or prophet”…I won’t worship you:snooty:

Re: Does God Exist?

You don't have to beleive in Gods to enjoy the hindu festivals.....
