Call it my ignorance. For a long time my parents didn’t allow me to eat outside because of the quality of food in those areas of Pakistan.

which areas of Pakistan? balochistan? food in Punjab is very clean and fresh. even mobile food shops are hygenic.

^ Brother, you can always find halal food, which ever place you live, by only checking the resturants in your area on this site

I think we should tip the person whose waiting us regardless of their service.There are days when a good waiter or waitress are having a bad day but that doesnt mean he/she not good at wat they are doing and dont deserve tip.These people make their living off a tip money. Believe me 10 bucks wont bankrupt you on a $40 meal.

that is encouraging the wrong behavior. I usually dont find bad waiters most do what they need to do and are just above or just below what one would expect, a few are amazing, and sometimes u run into complete morons. Its the last group that I am talking about.
you know in situations where the waiter is so rude and your order is so messed up that u dont even want to send it back because of what else would be in or on your food when u get it back, or if you spend your dinner dealing with mixed up orders, things being brought up in wrong order, or missing entrees. The waiter's job it is to make your dining an enjoyable experience, and if they cant do that, they dont deserve a tip.
someone having a bad day can tell u, sorry, just exhausted today, my apologies etc..but being a dick gets em zilch

most of the time i leave the waiter with a tip
its really bad to see that in pakistan we would give money to beggars who most probably are professionals and do nothing but to beg while we do not give tips to waiters or gate keepers or people working in shopping malls who work hard but are not paid well.
i really think we all should give tips (if u r happy or staisfied with the service) to these people and not give money to beggars etc

Ppl from Balochistan are more hygiene conscious than most other Pakis.
Lahore is the food capital of Pak and the food is tasty but it's very unhygienic, they don't even care to laughter the animals properly, they cook rotting flesh and store meat in the most unhygienic of conditions e.g. uncovered near sewage... I saw this program and it showed just exactly what goes on behind the scenes, there was literally worms coming out of this buffalo they were chopping up.
This is not just the street vendors but even the posh restaurants which foreign tourists visit.
I’ve seen with my own eyes how dirty the hands of the Lahori kid selling samosas and falooda at the mobile food cart were, I had to throw them in the bin because they don't even use tongs.

at many arab places in US halal does not mean its zabeeha, so if it is important to you then you may want to be specific when u ask them
I heard Kosher meat is also Halaal as Jews slaughter in the same way as us to drain all the blood and they also mention God's name before slaughtering it. I'm not sure how true the second bit is.
Some paitoo Arab clerics only take one verse out of context which says we're allowed the food of Ahl el-Kitab but ignore the verse which prohibits the consumption of blood or meat that hasn't had God's name (alone) mentioned on it. In my opnion if an Ahl el-Kitab kills an animal by strangling without draining the blood or he slaughters it after mentioning the Trinity instead of just God 'The Father' then that meat wont be allowed even though it's by Ahl el-Kitab.

well dont talk about arabs , u will find many eating Jaatkka , once i was given a fatwa by an arab , he said brother just say bismisallah and eat it . Thats all ya do . He even showed me a fatwa regarding this issue given by an arab sheikh .
so their stuff is bit fishy !

Maybe you are westernized but I have found food in restaurants in gawalmandi/Laxmi Chowk/food street area is really yummy and cleanest- even paan shopkeepers wash their hands before making a paan for you- the kind of cleanliness is only see in the western countries. There are some poor people who set up mobile shops selling samosey and pakorey but since they so poor, they dont have means to maintain cleanliness. Mein restaurants ki baat kar raha hoon- you always eat at mobile shops with ur family:confused:??

westernized desis think all of Pakistan is dirty and food contaminated... phajjay kay paye is yummmmmmy!! Afghani tikka, [FONT=arial, helvetica]chargha fry masala, kali mirch wali handi, taka tak (kata kat in Karachi); you name it and it's there.

yes I do, normally about 7 to 10% of the bill.

What sort of Pak have you been visiting mate?
There was a documentory on TV about what goes on behind the scenes in the posh resteruants, they recycle food and use rotting meat which sometimes is not even slaughtered, they have no concept of HASAP.
As for your question, lol no I don’t eat with my family from mobile food stalls but they come in handy when awaragardi-ying with friends/cousins.
and I am not “westernised”, far far from it, I’m more fob than fobs, but you have to face the realities, that said Pak might be dirty but I wouldn’t have it any other way (cleaner fast-food would be nicer though)

I think no price can be put to the respect which a waiter gives us, but we can atleast "thank" them with a smiling face and leave atleast some money on the table.
I don't like to allow any waiter to help me in putting on my coat, but I do feel sorry at the way they tolerate people shouting at them as they hurry up in all directions trying to please everyone, without caring about their own dignity.
p.s. The real reward to these waiters would be insha'Allah given in the life hereafter, then the shouting/ disgracing customers would realize their own worth.
Well try giving tip to a waiter/waitress in Iceland. They will chop your head off, :D
Seriously, those guys are stink rich & offering tips is like insulting them.
I pity desi waiters though & I agree you should respect every human being.

In India (and I am sure its the same in Pak) - if you try tipping the poor maid, driver or servant, or say Taxiwala - you are accused by the local or relatives for spoiling them.
When you go out - the fun of buying is sometimes spoilt, by the relatives insisting do not buy from here - they know a cheaper place, or they start haggling.
Infact I had to sometimes tip them without others knowing.
