I think no price can be put to the respect which a waiter gives us, but we can atleast “thank” them with a smiling face and leave atleast some money on the table.
I don’t like to allow any waiter to help me in putting on my coat, but I do feel sorry at the way they tolerate people shouting at them as they hurry up in all directions trying to please everyone, without caring about their own dignity.
p.s. The real reward to these waiters would be insha’Allah given in the life hereafter, then the shouting/ disgracing customers would realize their own worth.
lol, it's like any other intensive job.. tis the real world. TIPS is what they live on! So of course we have to tip them, other than that they earn like $6/hour.. that's no good. So tip tip tip!!

depends on employer at some of the fancy joints they make a lot more, its hard to get a job at those top restaurants but the staff there gets paid more as well.
as far as tip goes, i do tip, but that is performance based. if u give a bad waiter teh same amount of tip u give a good waiter then you are just encouraging the wrong behavior.
Waitstaff do not have to be paid minimum wage since they do make tips. They make an hourly wage but its definitely not enough to live on. I was a bus-girl and also a waitress in a number of restaurants as I put myself thru college and it was the tips that paid my tuition and bought my food. Its a grueling, tough job, hard on the feet and back even when you're young. But the more you hustle and the more you attend to the wants and needs of your customers, the better you are paid. Usually!
once we went out with this other family and as we payed the bill one of the aunties was like y r u giving so much $5 or smthng is enuf…it was like a desi jhamela all of a sudden
i wanted to say to her its called respect n care:rolleyes:
In the US tipping a server is not optional (unless it is bad service).
My rule of thumb: horrible service = 0, barely passable service = 10%, good service = 15%, excellent service = 20-25%.
I usually always tip....except 1 time when service was HORRIBLE and the waiter was super duper rude! An average waiter/waitress gets about 15% and if they were nice or very attentive then more and depending on how much i can afford :)
Mama do you tip a little extra than normal? My best friend also worked as a waitress during college and knows what they go through so she always leaves a little extra esp when staff was nice.
I remember that when the first time I went with my friend to a hotal, I did not know that people give tip to the people who serve them. So after eating meal I gave him money and when he gave back the rest of money in a file. I took all the money but I saw a dull sad smile on the face of the quiet waiter.
When I came out of the hotel, my friend told me that I was suppose to leave some money on the table and it is called "tip". I felt very bad. I thought I should immediately go back and pay him money, but my friend said that it would not be appropriate and I might give when I come to the same place the next time.
That night when I went to bed, the expression of that waiter came infront of me and brought tears to my eyes and I felt very bad about my mistake, as if I had taken away anyone's right.
Its customary to leave 15 percent for service. So leave 10 if its bad service and 20 percent if its great service. THese people work their asses off, beleive me. And yes, I usually do leave more than is customary when we have a server who goes above and beyond...I've been there, done that. Know what its like and how much the extra money is appreciated. Seeing a hustling bus-person or wait-staff who sees all and anticipates the wants and needs of their customers even when faced with a busy mealtime...they really earn their living and I surely dont mind helping them out.
Waiters and waitresses (in the better restaurants) share the tips with the bus-people. They get about 10 to 15 percent of the nights tips.
I pay 10 percent for bad service because its an insult to get a small tip and because they are being paid under min wage to do what they do...which is a tough job no matter how u look at it yeah?
but none the less, all i can think about is the fancy restaurant I worked in and the HUGE amounts of money I'd make on a saturday nite...really. $250?? and that was like 15 years ago man. Give people what they want and you'll reap rewards.
