**Mystery shrouds Shoaib Akhtar’s return home **

KARACHI: Mystery surrounded the return of enigmatic fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar with no one being able to confirm his return from Australia.

“He is due to arrive later today,” said Shoaib’s brother Shahid Akhtar Thursday afternoon while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials said as per schedule he was due to reach Islamabad Thursday morning from Dubai.

However, sources said the fast bowler had returned to Islamabad after missing a flight to Karachi from Dubai but had gone underground —not wishing to face the media. PCB called him back from Australia after he injured his hamstring during the third Test in Sydney earlier this month and struggled with it in the ongoing VB Series.

The fast bowler is also due to have a one-to-one meeting with PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan who has said he is going to have a ‘hard talk’ with him regarding discipline.

Shoaib has been at the centre of a controversy regarding his conduct during the Sydney Test with sections of media splashing his photographs posing with a female and some friends. However the photographs don’t confirm if he was in a nightclub, bar or restaurant and are simply poses of the fast bowler.

I think after seeing our bowling performence in the VB series without Akhtar and Sami...its pretty obvious they are by far the best we have available

U think we lost coz we didnt have shoaib and sami, Pa G, Kis dunya mein ho? Thanks God they werent in the team coz Lara would have broken Saeed Anwars record and Windies would have crossed over 400. Shukar hai kay usnay qome ki izzat bacha lee.

Pakistan needs more players like me - Sho-eb Actor

Islamabad - Pakistan fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar said on Monday *he wants his country to produce more cricketers like him so they can win matches against the best teams in the world. *

"We have to find genuine fast bowlers because you can't win Test matches with bowlers who have speeds of 120km/h to 130km/h," Akhtar said.

"Teams like Australia have the top seven batsmen in the world and you can only make them struggle with genuine fast bowlers."

Akhtar, who bowls at speeds of around 160km/h, was forced to return home midway through the triangular one-day international series in Australia, which also featured West Indies, after suffering a hamstring injury.

"I had problems with my hamstring before we left for Australia and it just aggravated by the time the limited-overs series started," said Akhtar, who is known here as the Rawalpindi Express.

Although Akhtar took 11 wickets in the first two Test matches against world champions Australia, Pakistan still suffered a 3-0 rout in the Test series.

"Frankly speaking, you can't expect Shoaib Akhtar to perform all the time. Someone else has to support me from the other end," Akhtar said.

"Unfortunately (Mohammed) Sami got injured and it was difficult to contain a strong Australian batting lineup from one end," he added. "I took injections before the third Test started, but the injury got worse and worse."

Akhtar said that the International Cricket Council should cut some of the one-day internationals to prevent fast bowlers being injured.

"If you analyse other Test playing nations, England's (Steve) Harmison, (Andrew) Flintoff, India's Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, New Zealand's Shane Bond, Daryl Tuffey, they all have injury problems," Akhtar explained. "That's just because of playing excessive cricket."

Akhtar said Australia's domination of world cricket is due to the fact that they have three front-line fast bowlers: Glenn McGrath, Jason Gillispie and Michael Kasprowicz.

"Look, fast bowlers bowl in pairs, if McGrath takes wickets from one end, Gillispie and Kasprowicz put pressure from the other end or if McGrath cuts down the scoring opportunities, the other two take wickets," he said.

Akhtar hoped that he would recover in time for the three-Test series against India, starting on March 4.

"It's a tough tour, I don't think they (Indians) will make fast pitches, but I hope to do well for my country," he said. "We have to perform as a team and all the 11 players have to contribute. Only Shoaib Akhtar is not enough to win matches in India."

I think this guy opens his mouth when high on weed or something. I wonder who the parents of this rascal, indeed a shameless act for his family and country.

I hope the fact that Pak beat Australia soon after he left should knock enough sense in his head. But i doubt it will. There is no cure for thickheadedness.

Yes we do need Shoaib Akhter. You guys can yadi yadah whole day like typical sports fans
call him names and burn his house down.

I'm proud to think differently. I'm disapointed of GS Mods to allow some harsh 'galli gallouch' against him and other Pakistan team memebers through some 'New' members.
In my book its a 'Ban ban' situation.

^ If you see any gali galoch, point it out. Sometimes we miss stuff and need help in this regard. But I will agree that Shoaib bashing has gone on for too long.

Shoaib Actor again opened his filthy mouth yesterday and this time target was the bowling legend, Wasim Akram. According to Shoaib Akhter “he is HURT over Wasim’s remarks that he (shoaib) is no more a match winning bowler and that Wasim should keep his views up to himself”

Oh…..my sweet, cute little baby is “hurt”. Does he ever think about other players who gets hurt every day but his bullish interviews like “there is no support for me in the team for bowling” …. “Pakistani need more bowlers like me to support me…” etc
