Meeting strangers in person versus meeting someone online is different. I know guys who will not contact or respond to a girl online without seeing a pic first. They don't want to take the risk of getting in touch with a girl and then realizing that they're not attracted to her. And like I said already.....if you contacted him and he's not available....then that's also a valid reason for him to ignore you. Clearly whatever information you do have about yourself in your profile wasn't enough to attract him even IF he's single.

^ This. For whatever reason...he is not interested. You're thinking about this way too much. He didn't respond....you move on. That's it. This is a risk girls and guys take when they initiate contact with a stranger (whether in person or online)......that the other person will not be interested. Like I said earlier....it's not a big deal. In an online situation....its just much easier to ignore someone versus in person, where you actually have to say that you're not interested. Either way....the message is the same.

I personally dont know any woman who entertains the idea of men approaching them in random places mentioned by OP . We like to make exceptions though and if a guy is really attractive we wont mind. but its not something I would recommend most guys should attempt. There could be very negative responses.
I think Its much easier for girls to flirt with and chat up guys in random places because guys are more approachable and dont usually make a big deal out of it. They seem very friendly to girls approaching them.

As I said, in my observation they are much more open to girls approaching them. I have a friends who aren't all that and they randomly added some guys on FB and most of them accepted their offer.

I think some guys judge that girl's character when they approach them or may be as sara516 said it depends, some people are comfortable with this & some are not.
