Re: Do people mistake you for another race?
Lol, Looks like most of the world is confused as nearly every Pakistani looks Persian/Arab/Afghani essentially anything exotic. Either I'm blind/ignorant or I have missed something.

Re: Do people mistake you for another race?
Although, If you're from the Kalash region/area then I could understand. They're the best looking Pakistanis.
Re: Do people mistake you for another race?
I actually find nothing amusing about people who make random, bizarre guesses about others' nationality, to me its suggest that they need to get out more and see the world. Most of the time its plain ignorance, its basically lack of experience and knowledge and thats not cool. Its actually pretty sad.

Now that's just going OTT.
There's nothing wrong about assuming and asking people about their race...how else would you know about them then?
Seriously, who could tell Ashwariya's Tamil?
Re: Do people mistake you for another race?
It's no big deal if someone can't tell the difference between Indians, Pakistani's, Arabs, etc. Same with other groups like Japanese Chinese and Korean. And because you can tell the difference between those groups doesn't make you any better either.
I know in the US most people have never left the country, as you can find all seasons/ interesting locations within the country. So many of them know nothing about the 'outside' world. And personally, I don't see that as a problem. Now if you think Pakistan is in South America, than, ya that's a problem.

You missed the point.
Its one thing to get curious and ask people where they're from and another to go ohhhh you don't look Pakistani, ahhhh you're too fair to be an Indian, you're too dark to be an Arab, you're too skinny to be a Latino so I thought you must be an xyz. Such thinking is frankly quite insulting.
Btw Ash is not Tamil.

South Indian/Tamil same thing*.*
I guess geography and cultures is not a favourite subject at home.
Re: Do people mistake you for another race?
I don’t wanna go into details…but when I said she’s Tamil I meant South Indian.
Besides there are several ethnic groups living in Karnatka including Tamils so I’m sure they speak and understand each other’s language and have similar culture. To me people from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Tulu Nadu look similar in looks too.

Re: Do people mistake you for another race?
This is such a ridiculous thread. Shows lack of knowlege on the topic of race, ethnicity and nationality.
Re: Do people mistake you for another race?
Tamil Nadu is in South India so I wasn’t wrong…I just didn’t exactly know her place of birth and origin (which now I do and it’s also in South India). And if I remember it correctly South Indians are also called Dravidians and considered a race.
“Nevertheless, Indians are classified by modern anthropologists as belonging to one of four different morphological or ethno-racial subtypes, although these generally overlap because of admixture: Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Australoid and Negrito. Dravidians are generally classified as members of the Proto-Australoid race. In one study, Sothern Indian Dravidians clustered genetically with Tamils, a socially endogamous predominantly Dravidian speaking Australoid group. …”
Re: Do people mistake you for another race?
How so, your majesty? ![]()
I asked a simple question…just say yes or no. I don’t want any lectures in geography and history etc. I dislike this attitude of “oh you know nothing and I know it all and hence I’m much better than you etc”. It’s very proud sort of behaviour you know.
Btw sorry I didn’t know this single question could hurt some people’s emotions. It’s not my fault if people are insecure about themselves.

Re: Do people mistake you for another race?
Not many people realize this but Arabs are actually very diverse. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours. I've noticed that in Desis we have this very bizarre perception that All Arabs are fair.
Thank you.....I have noticed this from almost day one of college (where I was exposed to more non-black/non-Hispanic people)..I've found Arabs to truly do look much more diverse than desis...ull find blonde haired blue eyed fair-skinned arabs as well as arabs who look like the complete opposite.....I know more arab people who have light skin, colored eyes than desis....
