Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
Don’t want to side with anybody here, but we have seen similar decrees in aftermath of Katrina, Rita, Tsunami, even 9-11.
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
armagoogle. didnt you read what I wrote? The mullah who made the statements about people deserving the earthquake is typical of the Mullahs in that area. He did not say this to ME, he said it to a friend of my husband. The friend is disillusioned with Islaam because of the abundance of religious leaders IN HIS AREA who say things like this. Are you saying that perhaps the Mullah is RIGHT??? That the people in that area are indeed evil cable tv-watchers and therefore deserved what they got????
well I dont agree that the mullah would find me to be ignorant and uneducated but I'm quite sure that he would find much to dislike about me. Not that it has anything whatsoever to do with the topic.
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
For those who believe Allah gives these earthly, physical punishments to those who deserve it, couldn't one also say that the living conditions of Muslims world wide compared to non-Muslims is indicative of his state of happiness with the ummah?
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
Seminole though I don't agree with going out and claim that this earthquake was "in fact" a punishment from Allah as I have no clue why He did this and have no "communication" with Him, but it is very likely a case that state of "Ummah" is due to His displeasure with us because we are not following His book.
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
So what exactly are we still arguing over? I thought the majority here agrees that it's best not to pass judgements such as those affected by the natural disasters are in fact punished by Allah (SWT)? Or is there a major disagreement over which we're still arguing?
Also, put aside what the imaam has said. For all we know, he may not even be a scholar to begin with.
Mamaof3, get your husband's friend to see a scholar. I'm sure a scholar would be able to better address such issues.
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
Mamaof3:
I know you are not Pakistani, but as an American, I'm sure you have been taught "cultural tolerance". These are not some subspecies of humans in these villages that think this way. This is how most people in these areas of Pakistan think.
Therefore, just like you expect people to tolerate you as a white woman, how about tolerating the stupidity of some old Pakistani men? After all, they tolerate you. Same difference.
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
How exactly do they tolerate mamaof3? Don't you think she would be condemned to death if these same mullahs had the with-it-all (and didn't think it was haram) to post here?
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
Semi how many Islamic scholars have you seen or read in your life condemniong someone to death who is not muslim?
Or anyone who thought it was haram to post?
Besides the thread starter just showed her quick judgement based on 'hearsay'
what a useful discussion based on hearsay....
"My friend had a conversation but what do I know....I will just post it anyway so I can fulfill my desires to bash someone I don't even know"!
Pelase post some credible info.
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
Seminole, she is still allowed to post here.
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
I’m not talking about condemning her to death because she is non-Muslim but because the the mullah was reported to have said *“The earthquake is Allah’s punishment of these people for watching cable TV. Cable TV is the root of much of the evil on the planet. He had no sympathy for the victims of the earthquake, they were sinful and deserved what they got.” *
Well, cable TV is the “G” version of the internet so I was extrapoplating what her deserved punishment for being on the internet.
And I don’t doubt it as credible, it was told to her by a friend and scholar. Besides, as PCG and others have pointed out, it is a view shared by others. I supposed I could search for a video or fatwa on it, but I’m not.
PCG, by whom? The scholars who thought cable tv usage was deserving of a death sentence?
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
this thread is nothing but a "tafreeh" for mamoaf...she does not know abt pak..she does not know abt alims in pak......
majority of pakis think tht it was azaab..so blaming a mullah is just insane atitude..
just come to karachi and ask people from every part of the society..they will say " it was azaab or warning"....
this thread does not have any weight...especially for those who live in pak...but for people living outside pak,its a fun....as mamoaf trying to do
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
who knows mamaof3 might be making this up, or the friend of her husband....
u r all arguing over stupid issues....
if the local mullah said that this happened cuz of the wrong they did, the ppl will jump on him cuz he is the one who leads (or misleads) them in the afafirs of religion and if the wrath of Allah takes them then surely he isnt doing his job properly....
and why discuss the views of one mullah....
and generalize it over all of them....
u gyus r simply narrow-minded and will think only the way u like to think....
u have built in ur narrow minds a protoype of mullahs who r "uneducated and ignorant" and u cant seem to get out of them....
most of the mullahs r far more educated than ur own selves and possess more intelligence too than crying over a non-issue....
there was a good reason why the thread was locked....
it serves no purpose....
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
its nothing but a field-day for mamaof3. good going mama-jee :k:
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
My intentions in posting about this had nothing whatsoever to do with making fun or making generalizations about all religious leaders. I believe i wrote somewhere in here about some of the wonderful and impressive Islaamists I have met. Nor do I claim to know all that much about living in Pak - THAT is the reason for posting and my reason for coming to GS. Seek knowledge always. Those of you who have seen me post here know that I am sincere, do not make things up and try to understand. It has occurred to me that perhaps while the religious leaders and scholars are mainly upstanding, educated and far from ignorant - it does not seem to be the case in the northern areas where there is much less development. Thats my humble observation and is not an attempt to "bash" some poor old man.
THere is no doubt in MY mind, in MY opinion...that the Mullah was ignorant and said some terrible things. I was curious to see what others felt and what their response would be. ANd it degenerated to THIS. Thats why I have very rarely ventured into this forum.
You are quite right, Armughal. This thread should be locked.
EDIT by Mod: Do not distort other people's nicknames to insult them. Repeating such behavior could land you in trouble.
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
why is it a “tafreeh” for mamaof3? If what you are telling, it only shows that she was right, people there are being told that it was azaab and it is not restricted to just Muzaffarabad or its suburbs but all over Pakistan (as you said).
If majority of Pakistanis think that it really must be a right thing to believe, right? Did anyone receive a email/fax confirmation from Allah swt?
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
^ if Allah was to send down email/faxes for every thing, why did He bother with the Quran????
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
Quran was sent to Prophet PBUH by Allah swt, any further revelations have been stopped, so how are people claiming that it IS azaab?
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
my dear, dont be emotinal…sit down and relax…wht i mentioned was a fact…yes majority including many “liberals” think tht it was warning from ALLAH to correct our atitude..can u neglect this fact?..or should i tell lie just to prove mamaof wrong??..
we take our guidance from Quran…and we should be neutral in our approach..
we pakis from every part of the country, whether from kashmir or karachi,do plenty of gunnahs…and yes i also think the earthquake as warning..
abt mamaof crazy post,it was nothing but a way to criticized mullahs and religious minded people…thts y i called her posts “tafreeh”…
Re: Disturbing - Conversation with a Mullah
armughal, why do you feel it so necessary to defend this mullah's views to the extent of insulting the intelligence and honesty of posters? Why do you have such a problem with someone expressing their view (that is universal outside of your fundamentalist and narrow interpretation). Isn't that what this forum is for - to questions things and discuss what is on their minds, and not for you to determine what is worthy of discussion? And God forbid mamaof3 not "distort other people's nicknames to insult them" but it's ok for you to insult her by accusing her of 'making this up'.
And please spare the accusations of others being narrow minded - that is the height of irony.
