I was chatting online today with a friend of the family who lives within an hour or so of Muzzafarabad. He’s a University professor, quite disillusioned with Islaam at least the “brand” of Islaam that is preached and practiced in his area. He spoke yesterday with the Mullah at his local mosque about the earthquake and here are some of the amazing things the Mullah had to say:
The earthquake is Allah’s punishment of these people for watching cable TV. Cable TV is the root of much of the evil on the planet. He had no sympathy for the victims of the earthquake, they were sinful and deserved what they got.
Same goes for victims of the Tsunami.
Kashmir was targeted even more because there are too many Kashmiris who moved away to Kafiir places in order to become rich and lead sinful lives.
He was extremely confident of his convictions. AND he is, according to our friend, a very typical religious leader, at least in that area.
Scary. VERY scary. That an ignoramus such as this has influence on people.
Comments?
Oh gosh, THis is so pathetic, and this is one of the things thgat I pointed out in one of my posts, these people would try their very best to scare the innocent people more and any one with a progressive approach would be literally stoned.
going by the above, the sinful rich Kashmiris were spared then weren’t they? Because they moved away to another place and were not in Kashmir at the time of the quake.
This person does not even know the meaning of rationality. Let alone the fact that he’s passing judgement on others Lord have mercy!
I was also of the opinion that natural disasters are a form of punishment from Allah (SWT) till I was corrected. It's best to stay quite and to supplicate for the victims.
Whatever the imaam has said is truly very disturbing. The least he can do is supplicate for them. To assume that all those who have passed away or are suffering are sinners or evil is quite wrong.
If God were to really 'punish' all 'sinners', how many people would survive on this planet? That Mullah needs to learn Quran first, all he sees is one or two aya regarding punishment of past nations and he thinks thats what happened here, its ONLY and ONLY Allah swt who knows why it happened.
If I was there, I would first pull this mullahs beard out at the root. Then I would punch him on the nose. And then finally i would kick him and knock him down to the ground and drag him out of the the masjid and shoot him to death.
I'd have no sympathy with him. He was sinful and deserved what he got.
I dont know Sadiyah...I see all of these natural disasters happening in such frequency lately...since Allah/God IS nature, I really DO think that there is a message here somewhere. No one culture or religion is being targeted, the whole planet seems to be a target this year! So I think there is just a general displeasure....and the general displeasure has to do with ignorance and intolerance, the type of thing that this Mullah is proliferating.
ps...not that I think, in any way, that the victims were deserving of the disasters that have been occurring. But if you think about it, these disasters ARE making people evaluate themselves and to give to others in need and stop worrying about stupid things like what others eat, how they pray, etc etc.
THis is teh question I have been asking myself lately, Why did God target all the inncoent people and not the sinners. I am a very very strong believer guys but sorry I just can't digest it when the real sinners and corrupt people were spared?
Mamaof3, after learning that it's best that we don't make any assumptions. I wish to stay quite. Whatever happens is by the decree of Allah (SWT) and there is always wisdom behind everything that Allah (SWT) does.
It's unfortunate that many have passed away and many more have lost their families and homes. At the same time, it is comforting to see aid coming in from all corners of the world. Foremost, Pakistanis for once don't seem divided and are helping out to the best of their ability.
If anything, such natural disasters only teach me to be a better Muslim and an individual because you never know one you would have to move on to the next world.
Whatever the imaam said is certainly uncalled for and very rude. Then again you have to keep in mind that imaams aren't scholars or even religiously educated to begin with. This phenomenon is very common in Pakistan. The number of imaams (prayer leaders) greatly outnumber the scholars. Besides, these days all of us think we have the authority to speak over matters we are least informed about. This is something very dangerous and we should refrain from it to the best of our ability. That is because all it does is further misguide ourselves and those who are listening to us.
Sadiyah, when you stop questioning, you stop seeking knowledge. One of the first things that I learned of Islaam is that the seeking of knowledge is one of the most important things a good Muslim should strive for. This is said in the holy Koran. No offense intended but this is an important concept I think.
Mr Armughal, I am quite sure that I would be able to retaliate with verses that show how innocents get paradise while the guilty stay here to contemplate their erroneous ways....
everything you posted seems to indicate that the victims of the earthquake were deserving of their plight. But if you look at it another way, those who perished are now in paradise while those left behind are not. Do you think the victims were "destroyed"? deserving of what they got? why? and how is that reconciled with all of the other disasters that have been occurring on this planet? doesnt it make more sense that Allah/God is pissed off at US ALL? and trying to help us be better people to each other?
Aren’t these verses about the ‘nations’ who rejected Allah’s message and believed in some other entity/idol? Whereas the majority of the areas hit by earthquake were Muslims, however bad their deeds, but still “Muslims”.
