Discussion on Quran and status of Jesus [Edited]

well then u go do that buddy :k:
go believe what you want and let us peacefully believe what we want
stop charging us with the accusation of coping the Bible and take your propoganda elsewhere!

Greetings masoom_se_larki,

Thanks for your permission…

Take care…

Apple, I am just curious...What was Johns real name? What was Paul's real name? You do know that these anmes that you refer them with were not the actual names...right?

Faisal provided you with a reasonable explaination of Islamic view regarding yassoh Masseh and Christianity, but true to your form you ignored it and went back to the same old rhetoric...Koran is Bible's copy. I say show me the original words of Essa ..not words of John, Paul or King James etc... Words of Essa and we will continue this fruitless discussion.

Greetings Kaleem,

Thanks for your comments…

Apple is a forbidden fruit in Bible :snooty:

There is no mention of Fruit type in Quran Al Kareem.

Thankewwwwwwverymuch

Apple of my eye, read this:

THREE GRADES OF EVIDENCE

We Muslims have no hesitation in acknowledging that in the Bible, there are three different kinds of witnessing recognizable without any need of specialized training. These are:

  1. You will be able to recognize in the Bible what may be described as “The Word of God.”

  2. You will also be able to discern what can be described as the “Words of a Prophet of God.”

  3. And you will most readily observe that the bulk of the Bible is the records of eye witnessess or ear witnesses, or people writing from hearsay. As such they are the “Words of a Historian”

You do not have to hunt for examples of these different types of evidences in the Bible. The following quotations will make the position crystal clear:

The FIRST Type:

(a) I will raise them up a prophet . . . and I will put my words in … and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him." (Deuteronomy 18:18)

(b) I even, I am the Lord, and beside me there is no saviour." (Isaiah 43:11)

(c) “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the end of the earth: for I am God, and there is non else.” (Isaiah 45:22)

Note the first person pronoun singular (highlighted in green) in the above references, and without any difficulty you will agree that the statements seem to have the sound of being GOD’S WORD.

The SECOND Type:

(a) “Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying Eli, Eli, lama sabachtani? . . .” (Matthew 27:46)

(b) “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord:” (Mark 12:29)

(c) “And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is God.” (Mark 10:18).

Even a child will be able to affirm that: Jesus “cried” Jesus “answered” and Jesus “said” are the words of the one to whom they are attributed, i.e. the WORDS OF A PROPHET OF GOD.

The THIRD Type:

“And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he, (JESUS) came, if haply he (JESUS) might find anything thereon: and when he (JESUS) came to it, (Jesus) found nothing but leaves . . .” (Mark 11:13)

The bulk of the Bible is a witnessing of this THIRD kind. These are the words of a third person. Note the underlined pronouns. They are not the Words of God or of His prophet, but the WORDS OF A HISTORIAN.

For the Muslim it is quite easy to distinguish the above types of evidence, because he also has them in his own faith. But of the followers of the different religions, he is the most fortunate in this that his various records are contained in separate Books!

ONE: The first kind — THE WORD OF GOD — is found in a Book called The Holy Qur’an.

TWO: The second kind — THE WORDS OF THE PROPHET OF GOD, (Muhummed, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) are recorded in the Books of Tradition called The Hadith.

THREE: Evidence of the third kind abounds in different volume of Islamic history, written by some of high integrity and learning, and others of lesser trustworthiness, but the Muslim advisedly keeps his Books in separate volumes!

The Muslim keeps the above three types of evidence Jealously apart, in their proper gradations of authority. He never equates them. On the other hand, the “Holy Bible” contains a motley type of literature, which composes the embarrassing kind, the sordid, and the obscene — all under the same cover — A Christian is forced to concede equal spiritual import and authority to all, and is thus unfortunate in this regard.

Is the Bible God’s word?

Greetings Lajawab,

Who exactly was Jesus? What do we know about him? Most of the people who wrote about him say different things. Probably because they didnt know him personally... How in the world can anyone know what jesus said EXACTLY or in what context he said them? No one wrote down what he said when he said them. I mean, we are talking about a story about someone who lived 2000 years ago, who's teachings and life story were documented AFTER he died, and even then it was narrated by what others had said (thus adding BIAS to the mix). The story is then translated into countless languages, and god only knows how much is lost or altered in the process. Europe falls into the dark ages, no one can read, Church is constantly reinterpreting things to keep their hold, you have the eastern orthodox, there interpretations are totally different. Then the start of all the protestant movement, church of england...
How can you possibly say that eveything in the Bible and the testaments are what Jesus said... The quotes may be close, but they may be out of context or misinterpreted. You never know...

There is a Quranic verse which goes something like… You follow your religion and I follow mine… Well, a muslim’s faith is:

Qul Hu Walla Hu Ahad
Say Allah is one

Allah Hu-ssamad
Allah, the Eternal, Absolute

Lum yalid Walum Yulad
He begetteth not nor was begotten

Walum Ya qullahu Kofowan Ahad
And none is like Him

Without affirmation of the above mentioned Ayahs a muslim cannot be a muslim. So when in response to this you (Apple) say, “Sounds like Biblical material to me…” It sounds quite amusing because you yourself are admitting to the fact that Jesus is NOT a son of Allah as Allah does not procreate.

If you agree with the above, you are automatically confessing the muslim faith is true.

Quran is the word of God and He promised to keep it safe. Whereas He did not promise the same for any of His earlier books. So a muslim safely believes and blindly trusts that the book of Quran that he follows has the word of God and no human on earth can dare to change it.

BTW, Apple you sound a devoted Christian so you would be equally competent a Muslim so welcome to the newest and the last religion of the Universe

And as per the topic of your thread. I would like to say:

Quran DOES NOT confirm Jesus as the son of God. As the above mentioned ayahs from Surah Ikhlas clearly discredit anybody who believes the other way.

Position of Jesus (pbuh) in Islam:

  1. Islam is the only non-Christian faith, which makes it an article of faith to believe in Jesus (pbuh). No Muslim is a Muslim if he does not believe in Jesus (pbuh).

  2. We believe that he was one of the mightiest Messengers of Allah (swt).

  3. We believe that he was born miraculously, without any male intervention, which many modern day Christians do not believe.

  4. We believe he was the Messiah translated Christ (pbuh).

  5. We believe that he gave life to the dead with God’s permission.

  6. We believe that he healed those born blind, and the lepers with God’s permission.

CONCEPT OF GOD IN CHRISTIANITY:

  1. Jesus Christ (pbuh) never claimed Divinity

The major difference between Islam and Christianity is the Christians’ insistence on the supposed divinity of Christ (pbuh). A study of the Christian scriptures reveals that Jesus (pbuh) never claimed divinity. In fact there is not a single unequivocal statement in the entire Bible where Jesus (pbuh) himself says, "I am God" or where he says, "worship me". In fact the Bible contains statements attributed to Jesus (pbuh) in which he preached quite the contrary. The following statements in the Bible are attributed to Jesus Christ (pbuh):

(i) "My Father is greater than I."
[The Bible, John 14:28]

(ii) "My Father is greater than all."
[The Bible, John 10:29]

(iii) "…I cast out devils by the Spirit of God…."
[The Bible, Mathew 12:28]

(iv) "…I with the finger of God cast out devils…."
[The Bible, Luke 11:20]

(v) "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgement is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."
[The Bible, John 5:30]

NOTE: SENT ME....not given birth to me...so not a father by birth but father in respect as in the one who has given life to him.

  1. The Mission of Jesus Christ (pbuh) – to Fulfill the Law

Jesus (pbuh) never claimed divinity for himself. He clearly announced the nature of his mission. Jesus (pbuh) was sent by God to confirm the previous Judaic law. This is clearly evident in the following statements attributed to Jesus (pbuh) in the Gospel of Mathew:

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the Prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

"For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven."
[The Bible, Mathew 5:17-20]

  1. God Sent Jesus' (pbuh)

The Bible mentions the prophetic nature of Jesus (pbuh) mission in the following verses:

(i) "… and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me."
[The Bible, John 14:24]

(ii) "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent."
[The Bible, John 17:3]

  1. Jesus Refuted even the Remotest Suggestion of his Divinity

Consider the following incident mentioned in the Bible:

"And behold, one came and said unto him, ‘Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?’

And Jesus replied to him, ‘Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.’ "
[The Bible, Mathew 19:16-17]

Jesus (pbuh) did not say that to have the eternal life of paradise, man should believe in him as Almighty God or worship him as God, or believe that Jesus (pbuh) would die for his sins. On the contrary he said that the path to salvation was through keeping the commandments. It is indeed striking to note the difference between the words of Jesus Christ (pbuh) and the Christian dogma of salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus (pbuh).

  1. Jesus (pbuh) of Nazareth – a Man Approved of God

The following statement from the Bible supports the Islamic belief that Jesus (pbuh) was a prophet of God.

"Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know."
[The Bible, Acts 2:22]

  1. The First Commandment is that God is One

The Bible does not support the Christian belief in trinity at all. One of the scribes once asked Jesus (pbuh) as to which was the first commandment of all, to which Jesus (pbuh) merely repeated what Moses (pbuh) had said earlier:

"Shama Israelu Adonai Ila Hayno Adonai Ikhad."

This is a Hebrew quotation, which means:

"Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord."
[The Bible, Mark 12:29]

It is striking that the basic teachings of the Church such as Trinity and vicarious atonement find no mention in the Bible. In fact, various verses of the Bible point to Jesus’ (pbuh) actual mission, which was to fulfill the law revealed to Prophet Moses (pbuh). Indeed Jesus (pbuh) rejected any suggestions that attributed divinity to him, and explained his miracles as the power of the One True God.

Jesus (pbuh) thus reiterated the message of monotheism that was given by all earlier prophets of Almighty God.

NOTE: All quotations of the Bible are taken from the King James Version.

III CONCEPT OF GOD IN OLD TESTAMENT:

  1. God is One

The following verse from the book of Deuteronomy contains an exhortation from Moses (pbuh):

"Shama Israelu Adonai Ila Hayno Adna Ikhad".
It is a Hebrew quotation which means:
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord"
[The Bible, Deuteronomy 6:4]

  1. Unity of God in the Book of Isaiah

The following verses are from the Book of Isaiah:

(i) "I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour."
[The Bible, Isaiah 43:11]

(ii)"I am Lord, and there is none else, there is no God besides me."
[The Bible, Isaiah 45:5]

(iii)"I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me."
[The Bible, Isaiah 46:9]

  1. Old Testament condemns idol worship

(i) Old Testament condemns idol worship in the following verses:

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:"

"Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God."
[The Bible, Exodus 20:3-5]

(ii) A similar message is repeated in the book of Deuteronomy:

"Thou shalt have none other gods before me."

"Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that in the earth beneath, or that is in the water beneath the earth."

"Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God."
[The Bible, Deuteronomy 5:7-9]

Similarities between the Qur’an and the Bible does not necessarily mean that the former has been copied from the latter. In fact it gives evidence that both of them are based on a common third source; all divine revelations came from the same source - the one universal God. No matter what human changes were introduced into some of these Judeo-Christian and other older religious scriptures that had distorted their originality, there are some areas that have remained free from distortion and thus are common to many religions.

It is true that there are some similar parallels between the Qur’an and the Bible but this is not sufficient to accuse Muhummad (pbuh) of compiling or copying from the Bible. The same logic would then also be applicable to teachings of Christianity and Judaism and thus one could wrongly claim that Jesus (pbuh) was not a genuine Prophet (God forbid) and that he simply copied from the Old Testament.

The similarities between the two signify a common source that is one true God and the continuation of the basic message of monotheism and not that the later prophets have plagiarised from the previous prophets.

If someone copies during an examination he will surely not write in the answer sheet that he has copied from his neighbour or Mr. XYZ. Prophet Muhummad (pbuh) gave due respect and credit to all the previous prophets (pbut). The Qur’an also mentions the various revelations given by Almighty God to different prophets.

  1. MUSLIMS BELIEVE IN THE TAURAH, ZABOOR, INJEEL AND QUR’AN

Four revelations of Allah (swt) are mentioned by name in the Qur’an: the Taurah, the Zaboor, the Injeel and the Qur’an.

Taurah, the revelation i.e. the Wahi given to Moosa (a. s.) i.e. Moses (pbuh).
Zaboor, the revelation i.e. the Wahi given to Dawood (a.s.) i.e. David (pbuh).
Injeel, the revelation i.e. the Wahi given to Isa (A.S.) ie. Jesus (pbuh).
‘Al-Qur’an’, the last and final Wahi i.e. revelation given to the last and final Messenger Muhammad (pbuh).

It is an article of faith for every Muslim to believe in all the Prophets of God and all revelations of God. However, the present day Bible has the first five books of the Old Testament attributed to Moses and the Psalms attributed to David. Moreover the New Testament or the four Gospels of the New Testament are not the Taurah, the Zaboor or the Injeel, which the Qur’an refers to. These books of the present day Bible may partly contain the word of God but these books are certainly not the exact, accurate and complete revelations given to the prophets.

The Qur’an presents all the different prophets of Allah as belonging to one single brotherhood; all had a similar prophetic mission and the same basic message. Because of this, the fundamental teachings of the major faiths cannot be contradictory, even if there has been a considerable passage of time between the different prophetic missions, because the source of these missions was one: Almighty God, Allah. This is why the Qur’an says that the differences which exist between various religions are not the responsibility of the prophets, but of the followers of these prophets who forgot part of what they had been taught, and furthermore, misinterpreted and changed the scriptures. The Qur’an cannot therefore be seen as a scripture which competes with the teachings of Moses, Jesus and the other prophets. On the contrary, it confirms, completes and perfects the messages that they brought to their people.

Another name for the Qur’an is the ‘The Furqan’ which means the criteria to judge the right from the wrong, and it is on the basis of the Qur’an that we can decipher which part of the previous scriptures can be considered to be the word of God.

Special Note:

The “Holy Spirit visitation to Mary scriptures”, contained within the Koran, are borrowed from the NT, as evidenced here:

And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin who had been betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And entering, the angel said to her, Hail, one having received grace! The Lord is with you. You are blessed among women! And seeing this, she was disturbed at his word, and considered what kind of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, Do not fear, Mary, for you have found favor from God. And behold! You will conceive in your womb and bear a Son, and you will call His name Jesus. This One will be great and will be called Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob to the ages, and of His kingdom there will be no end. But Mary said to the angel, How will this be since I do not know a man? AND ANSWERING, THE ANGEL SAID TO HER, THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL COME UPON YOU, AND THE POWER OF THE MOST HIGH WILL OVERSHADOW YOU, AND FOR THIS REASON THAT HOLY ONE BEING BORN OF YOU WILL BE CALLED SON OF GOD. (Luke 26-35)

Spirit of God, Book of Revelation

The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To the one overcoming, I will give to him to eat of the Tree of Life which is in the midst of the Paradise of God. (Rev 2:7)

The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. The one overcoming will not at all be hurt by the second death. (Rev 2:11)

The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To the one overcoming, I will give him to eat from the hidden manna. And I will give to him a white stone, and on the stone a new name having been written, which no one knows except the one receiving it. (Rev 2:17)

The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. (Rev 2:29)

The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. (Rev 3:6)

The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. (Rev 3:13)

The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. (Rev 3:22)

And I heard a voice out of Heaven saying to me, Write: Blessed are the dead, the ones dying in the Lord from now. Yes, says the Spirit, they shall rest from their labors, and their works follow with them. (Rev 14:13)

And I fell before his feet to worship him, but he said to me, Behold! Stop! I am a fellow-slave of yours, and of your brothers, having the testimony of Jesus. Worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (Rev 19:10)

I, Jesus, sent My angel to testify these things to you over the assemblies. I am the Root and Offspring of David, the bright and morning Star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come! And the one hearing, let him say, Come! And the one thirsting, let him come; and the one desiring, let him take of the water of life freely. (Rev 22:16-17)

Summary:

1) Who is the Spirit of God?...Revelation, Jesus…Koran, Jesus
2) Jesus is mentioned Ninety-seven times in Ninety-three verses of the Koran
3) Jesus is called the Spirit of God seven different times
4) Allah has aligned his “deity” with that of Jesus
5) The Koran is stating that Jesus is God
6) The Koran has confirmed the nature of the Biblical Trinity

seriously mate. You are too funny :bummer:.

“Then whoever disputes with you concerning him (Jesus) after knowledge has come to you, say: ‘Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves – then we pray and invoke the Curse of Allah upon those who lie.’” [Soorah Aal `Imraan (3):61]

“The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!” [At-Tauba (The Repentance) (9):30]

“They say: Allah has taken a son. Glorified be He! He has no needs! His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. You have no warrant for this. Do you tell concerning Allah what you do not know?” (10:68)

"They indeed have disbelieved who say: Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. Say: Who then can do anything against Allah, if He had willed to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, and his mother and everyone on earth? Allah's is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. He creates what He will. And Allah is able to do all things.”*(5:17) *

“And when Allah says: O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you say to mankind: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? he says: Be glorified! It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I used to say it, then You know it. You know what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Your mind. You, only You, are the Knower of Things Hidden. I spoke to them only what You commanded me, (saying): Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. I was a witness of them while I lived among them, and when You took me You were the Watcher over them. You are Witness over all things. If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them (they are Your slaves). You, only You are the Mighty, the Wise.”*(5:116-118) *

“O people of the Book! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter anything concerning Allah except the Truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say “Three” - Stop! (it is) better for you! - Allah is only One God, It is far removed from His transcendent majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is enough as Defender. The Messiah will never scorn to be a slave to Allah nor will the favored angels. Whoever scorns His service and is proud, all such will He assemble to Him; then as for those who believed and did good works, to them He will pay their wages in full, adding to them of His bounty; and as for those who were scornful and proud, them will He punish with a painful doom; and they will not find for them, against Allah, any protecting friend or helper.”*(4:171-173) *

Let’s look:

You The Book’s people, do not exaggerate/exceed the limit in your religion, and do not say on (about) Allah except the truth, but the Messiah, Jesus, Mary’s son (is) Allah’s messenger and His word/expression He threw it away to Mary, and a Soul/Spirit from Him; so believe with Allah, and His messengers, and do not say: “Three.” Stop (it is) best for you, but Allah (is) one Allah, His praise/glory that to be for him a child; for Him what (is) in the skies/space and what (is) in the earth/Planet Earth, enough/sufficient with Allah (as a) guardian/protector. (4:171)

First, note that the Arabic word “WALADUN” is NOT gender specific, nor does it mean son. To render it as “son” is to pour bias into the translation.

“Waladun” means child; children; offspring.
