By taking “interest in Islam”, I meant to say that person is intending to learn Islam. Taking ‘interest’ in a religion to find its “weak” spots (weak in your opinion) and criticizing/making fun doesn’t mean you are “interested” in that religion, it means that you want to learn it so you can criticize it.

deedawar, I can understand why muslims would think that and say that. Muslims need to understand that I will dismiss the God as a hack who prescribes that thinking. Remember it is tolerance we all seek. Just as you have every right to believe 5/6th of humanity is going to hell. the 5/6th have every right to believe that the God who is this angry, needs a chusni and should be told to behave or no dessert.

If God simply informs us that if doing x,y,z and not doing a,b,c is a sure PATH to a painful doom, why is this a sign of anger? Rather, it’s a sign of hubris that we don’t listen…
At the end of the day, Hell is a place you go to out of your own free will…and the fact is, Muslims don’t have any kind of immmunity. They have to do their duty to stay on the right path…

^ Angry like a kid. Petulant childish diety if I ever saw one, completely insecure, attention seeking, devoid of any control and compassion that a God should reflect.
It is not about doing x,y,z. It is about the 23 other letters of the alphabet that represent common virtues among all. A God would throw someone in hell because they simply don't do x,y,z is comical and makes his dictats highly questionable.
Here is what I think Allah is about. He is one interpretation of God. I have prayed to him in mandirs, masjid, churches, gurdwaras, synogogues etc etc... he is no different from Vishnu, Yahveh, Jesus, Rab rakha etc etc.. He is loving of all his creation and treats them the same. X,Y,Z is one part of the world (arabia)= a,b,c in other parts of the world. (japan). Same thing!!!!!! If the people place primacy over the path they are at a loss for the love from the rest of the world.

Pinstripe, when your teacher tells you to do a homework and you don't and he punishes you for it, it is not the teacher to blame but you...
If you do your homework, no problems...If you don't, you get a good phainti...So who is being childish here...The teacher or the sudent?
It's not being angry at all...It's punishing you for something you were told to do and didn't...How simple can it be?
And please...Come up with a legibly formed argument against Islam...Insulting anybody's god does not show a very educated person...But we know that...Stop mocking our God...

If a teacher teaches a subject universally consistent your parallel would hold. But if the teacher is a community college dropout teaching game theory to a Harvard MBA then the teacher needs to go back to school.

teachers who spank kids are not good teachers. and that is an impatient approach to teaching. why would any parent send his kid to such a teacher?
a good teacher has his/her kids take responsibility for their homework. if they dont put it effort, they dont pass into the next grade and stay there. this is why your religion needs milder interpretation, Lajo. you have turned religion into bootcamp.

“Nay, but whosoever submits completely himself to Allah and does good, his reward is with his Lord; and there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.” (Al-Baqarah 2:112)
As apparent from this verse, to be a Muslim means to submit oneself completely to Allah’s will and carve one’s life according to the law sent down by Him. The word Muhsin means to be honest and determined in following the commandments of the Almighty. As a result, the definition of being a true Muslim in the sight of Allah is quite different from being known as such in this world. It is these true Muslims who have been promised a reward in the Hereafter, and not those who are called Muslims in this world.
Therefore, it is very much possible that someone who is not known to us as a Muslim may be standing amongst Muslims on the Day of Judgment based on their correct beliefs and their good deeds in this world. At the same time, it is also very much possible that someone from amongst Muslims may be amongst the rejecters of faith because of their not following Islam completely and not performing good deeds. Consequently, one cannot deny the possibility that someone called a Muslim in this world may turn out to be the one who is thrown into the Hellfire and made to stay in it forever, because for instance he ‘did evil and his sin surrounded him.’ (Al-Baqarah 2:81)

To continue the simplistic analogy of student/teacher (since simplistic is a common interpretation of religion/spirituality), teachers can speak in many languages around the world, and the same subject is taught differently to different groups. In order for some students to grasp a concept they require the whole lesson to be spelled out in minute detail for them to memorize and recite. Then they don't believe any other interpretation that doesn't exactly match their own to be correct. Other students don't believe that a complex concept can't be laid out in one fashion for all to can go by and an outline with the ideals and framework are enough for them to study by to gain the necessary knowledge (salvation).

Surely, those who believe and the Jews and the Christians and the Sabians - whichever party from among these truly believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good deeds, shall have their reward with their Lord, and no fear shall come upon them, nor shall they grieve.
What are you gonna say about the above verse? Doesn’t it speak against what you’ve stated?

I believe I have said before that the Roman Catholic stance on believers of other religions is such. You have a path to God laid out for you in the Catholic Church and following that path leads to salvation. But a person of another religion who lives a righteous life is also going to heaven, not automatically condemned to hell. This is because the quality of a person’s life counts more than the people a person associates with.

In other words a physical church does not have a monopoly on God, God is in all of us and works through us all.
Those who are judgemental and closeminded on behalf of God ought to think about that a while. I very much doubt God needs your help in judging who is going to hell and who isn’t.
