The s400 has good results. If you plan on buying it make sure you put it in your hands for a few minutes. The thing weights alot, and its shape is aweful. Not to mention its build quality stinks.
Also check out the Olympus 720 and 730. The best deal around. Im sure you'll love it. The build quality is great, it looks great and the photos are also great.
I generally like Minolta. DiMage 7i is a good (though pricey) equipment. Even DiMage X is pretty ground-breaking.. this DiMage may be good results-wise, but the way they have built it, its kinda cheap-looking. Sony, Olympus and Canon are better-looking cameras. Atleast in my view.
Thank You HSKHAN and Faisal. Here is what I finally settled for, Olympus C50, will post the pics soon in the Image Gallery :-

I know the 5 mp is on the higher side and I am hardly going to use it but otherwise I liked the camera and its review. I also considered Olympus 740/750 but Zoom was too much for me to control and is little big for a pocket camera. I paid $450 for this one.
Please feel free to give your opinion on this one too.
^Its olympus. Got nothing bad to say .:D Nice choice.
Hskhan - I must thank you for telling me about Minolta 414/404. You were so right about its weight. After I read your comment I went to couple of stores to find one and it really weighs about 500g (with batteries). Glad that I didn't buy it.
You are welcome - but nothing to be thankful about. You are probably one of the few guppies that actually listens to recommendations. Nice to know I dont waste my time here ;)
I am thinking of getting an Olympus Stylus 300 Digital...
Looks pretty slick and has got great reviews, the one thing I am not sure about is the zoom. It has 3x optical and a 4x digital. IS it good enough???
More than enough for normal day to day use. Most digicams offer 3x optical zoom. You won't be using the digital zoom much anyway.

If its Olympus - its almost garunteed to be the best camera in the price range. Yes more optical zoom is good. But its not needed for everyone. It also adds alot of weight to a camera. To determine how much zoom you need - what camera did you have before? If a point and shoot served you great, a 3x Optical is more than enough. If you you had a slr than you probably would want the higher opti zoom. Recommend a 3x for novices. Some pros dont need higher zoom either.
I just bought a Canon Powershot S200. I had originally wanted the S230 due to the fact that it has 3.2 MP as opposed to the S200 with its 2MP, but the S200 was a whole $100 less than the S230...and I went with HS Khan's recommendation that one does not really need anything more than 2 MP for general use. I also bought a higher capacity CFR card to go along with it...I will post pics taken with it this weekend.

Canon S200. Another good choice!
Hey you all smart guys out there:D if you were to pick two digital cams from the below list then which two would you pick??
Canon PowerShot A20
2.1 Megapixels - 8 MB Memory - 3 X Optical Zoom - 2.5 X Digital Zoom - CompactFlash - Apple MacOS 8.5 or later, Windows 2000, Windows 95/98, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4.0 or later - 1.5 in LCD Screen Size
Canon PowerShot A200
2.0 Megapixels - 4 X Digital Zoom - CompactFlash - Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows XP - 1.5 in LCD Screen Size
Olympus D-380
2 Megapixels - 8 MB Memory - 2.5 X Digital Zoom - SmartMedia - Apple MacOS 8.6 or later, Window XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition - 1.6 in LCD Screen Size
Olympus D-390
2.0 Megapixel - 2.5 X Digital Zoom - XD-Picture Card - 1.8 in LCD Screen Size
HP PhotoSmart 318
2.3 Megapixel - 8 MB Memory - 2 X Digital Zoom - Integrated - Apple MacOS, Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4.0 or later, Window XP - 1.75 in LCD Screen Size
Yes, they are all in $100-200USD range!
If you are only thinking between these 5 cameras, then go fo Canon A20. With 3x opt zoom it is a much better camera, and looks very nice. A200 looks like crap. Forget HP. Olympus is good, but getting some opt zoom will be better than just getting digi zoom.
^
Thanks for your advice. I also thought Canon A20 is the best from the list. Well, what would be your second choice??
Probably Olympus D-390.
The Canon A-20 gets the highest mark from me. As for the other cams- not too sure about them. Id say the D-380. Yes its old, but its alot cheaper than the 390, and I assume the 390's results wont have any HUGE difference.
Seems like you just want to enter the digicam craze with as little money as possible. I recommend you wait Canon is releasing new A series cams. They just released a a60 and a70. I forsee more pricedrops. A little story. I bought my dscp7 for 1,100cdn (inc taxes from the sony store) - just 3 months after it was for aprx 800cdn(tax incl), and now (8months later) its a mere 500cdn because they brought out a new model to replace it. Im now kicking myself in the ass.
Recommend you go to the stores and look for cams $100 (go for 150 if u got patience and guts;)) above your budget. Make a list of 4 or 5 you like and keep posted on thier prices. Be patient and phone around even if its discontinued. The moment one of then reaches your budget buy it.
Thanks hskhan, that was a big help! :k: :k:
Last night I did a lot of search on the net and found that on one site Canon A20’s price is $199.99 and on the other one it is $499…
I wonder why there’s a big price difference on these two sites.![]()
Anyways,I’m making my mind about Canon A20, will prolly get that one. Hey your story was sad.
Well.. I don’t know if I can wait for 2-3 months because I don’t have an alternative. I mean I do have four cams but I don’t wanna spend my money on cam rolls and all that crap. So I’m prolly going to the store next Friday or weekend to buy my new cam, if I don’t buy Canon A20 I’ll get Olympus 380 or 390(I have Olympus cam and I love its image quality, it’s the best cam I’ve ever used!) whichever is cheaper. By the way, Olympus 390 is cheaper than 380 online.
Again thanks for your help guys..![]()
One site may be showing the MSRP (Suggested Retail Price) while the other may show the real discounted price. No one really pays the MSRP unless its a brand new model with no discounts. Typically internet vendors are able to get some discounts and pass them along. Yahoo! Shopping will give u all the comparative prices from different vendors. Also vendor ratings. Go with a reputed vendor, even if its a few bucks more. Ofcourse if its a 300 bucks difference, you may have to think, but I am sure you will be able to get a 5-star rated vendor offering $199 or something very close to it. Prices go down a lot when the model is older.
