The feedback they usually received about their physique and looks wasn't so nice either.
I have heard 'Bangaali husn' on TV.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
Don't know about that.. as you mentioned for Punjabi movies, regional language movies were limited to areas, where language was understood. Bengali movies couldn't get audience in West pakistan due to language barrier. One thing is for sure, Bengali cinema and theater are one of the strong institutions of performing arts in sub-continent todate. They had tradition of good music and world class literature (Geetanjali getting Nobel). In Pakistan, Ihtesham (Nadeem's father in law) and Nazr ul Islam (known as dada) produced quality movies. I must mention, melodious 'Shehnaz Begum', to whom Pakistani nation will always remain indebted for rendering 'Jeeve Jeeve Pakistan', 'Moj baRhe ya aandhi aae, dia jalae rakhna hai' and 'Sohni Dharti Allah Rakhe'
She visited Pakistan few years ago for PTV functions.
Are Bengali artists who maintained link with Pak prejudiced against a little bit in BD, like Shabnum, Roona Laila, Shehnaaz Begum ?
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
that is perception which was pointed out in years of tussle. Bengalis ladies wear bindi, their men wear lungi like Hindus. They love music and play musical instruments. All these perceptions earned Bengalis title of 'low-quality' Muslims
but doesn't maula jatt wear lungi too (isnt that him in TS's avatar)?
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
Dhoati. A step above lungi. ![]()
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
Javed Jabbar has written a book on history of Pakistan and he is of the view that Pakistan is not failed instead of all the odds. His remarks that were taken seriously were ’ Pakistan is a starnge country. Majority of Pakistanis (referring to East Pakistan) left the journey in between and now the minority is continuing that journey’. That guy said ’ we were labels as traitors. People like Fazl haq (Sher e Beganl) were called traitors that lead to separation’.
Its a different discussion how he got title of Sher e Bengal, which I’ve covered in ‘history of intolerant political culture in Pakistan’.
Hindustan was coined by Mughals (in their beloved language Persian). Pakistanis followed the suit (nothing wrong in it.. though they could have made an easy to understand national anthem). Bengalis loved their own language, so they came with ‘Bengladesh’..
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
may be this proves that Cultures are developed due to common region and not due to common religion
On the last Dhaaka Fall anniversary, there was a 2-part show 'Ilm-o-hikmat' with Ghamidi on Dunya TV on this topic and this point was discussed.
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
TS is right. I have also read that in East Pakistan, Muslims used to wear lungi and Hindus Dhoti to distinguish themselves.
The way Shakih Ayaz wrote about suffering of Bengalis in East Pakistan in 1960s was an indication of what happened after 10 years. In his words ’ these things put a question on existence of God’.
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
what was the conclusion. I want to know , though I don’t approve with the thoughts of Ghamidi - the script writer of Khuda ke liye ![]()
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
I didn’t know Fazl Haq was called traitor.
Why ?
Incidentally, last night’s Kamran Khan featured a book called “Pakistan is not a failed state” by some author Shabbar ?.
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
you are right. I recently read in Neelam Ahmed Bahir’s (Bushra Ansari’s sister) book that in 1960s and 1970s, many of the houses in Rawalpindi had music instruments and she and her sisters used to sing and play instruments. Her mother also got training in classical music and sung for movie produced by her father. But after some years, this trend saw a decline and people start telling her father ‘ghar main bachiyan hain.. ye saaz samne se hata do, nahin to rishte nahin aaen ge’.
This was obviosuly never been case with Bengalis.
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
yes, I have chappaR that book for free
good book to read.
labelling anyone traitor is the basic quality of dictatorship. Anyone talking in favour of mother tongue is traitor. For them Urdu and Islam got tags ‘handle with care.. fragile’
Even during one unit period, referring to Sindh as Sindh was punishable crime. Then came the term ‘Mehraan’.
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
As far as my experience with British Bengladeshi goes, they can't be bothered about Asian politics and history. Even if by any chance, they get into political banter with me, needless to say I always win. :DBut they very nice and easy people in general, love their bhanghra music, even though they don't understand a single word of Punjabi. They'd be blasting bhangra music in their cars without having a clue what the lyrics really mean. Some of them can definitely do better bhangra than me, and they admire Pakistani fashion, food and think we're good quite looking people (well my friends certainly think Pakistani guys are hot)
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
He was the script writer of KKL ?
I wish I remembered what he said exactly but it was on lines that religion can rally people for a cause but then other things need to be in place (justice and fair treatment ?) for things to work out well.

The other day Munni Begum who was from East Pak said in Umar Sharif show that in Bangal the girl sings for the prospective rishtay waalay, but in West Pak it is the opposite. :)

yes as bhooke nange Bengali. doing ayyashi on jute exports and not helping them during floods was a state / state supported policy.

so Munni Begum was also from East Pakistan.. so many names. Shabnam, Nadeem, Alamgir, Runa Laila, Shehnaz Begum, Ehtishaam, Nazrul Islam, Robin Gosh.. who else.
Muslih u din was a Bengali music director who got married to Nahaad Niazi (who sung songs chali ri chale re chali re and raat suhani aai baat anokhi lai). They worked for Pakistani movies like Ishq e laila. After 1971, they fell in a dilemma where to settle.. so they left both the countries and settled in England. Its sad to know these stories alongwith many stories where people had to go through double migration. first in 1947 and then in 1971.
Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?
i guess the lungi-dhoti difference wasnt convincing enough in 1971.
