Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

I don't think there too many similarities from what I can tell. It seems to me Bangladesh has more similarities with Bengal (as in India's Bengal)and Bengali culture. That's always been my impression but I could be totally wrong.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

What I want to know is were Urdu films exhibited in East Pakistan and Bangla films in West.

I knew a Bangladeshi who remembered Noor Jahan / Mehdi Hasan Urdu film songs from this youth.

Also I heard that Indian Bengal's language is called Bengaali and Bangladesh's language is called Bangaal bhaasha and that there is some difference ? Does anybody know ?

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

that would be odd… given most bangladeshis are from bengal and are bengalis. :smack:

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

That would be natural. As is the case with the two Punjabs.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

I meant that, in my opinion, their culture seems to be more influenced by the hindu culture as is seen in India’s Bengal (in weddings and wedding attire for example). I do not mean this negatively or anything of that sort, but as just a simple observation based on what I’ve seen here.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

the language is called baangaali, the g is almost silent. and obviously there are different dialects, bengal is huge.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

in what ways is it influenced by "the hindu culture"? is it any wonder bangladeshis are pissed off when even innocent pakistanis say things like this?

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

I just stated that I don't mean this negatively. I was simply referring to superficial things such as wedding attire and the like. I also stated that it is just my impression and that I could be wrong.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

may be this proves that Cultures are developed due to common region and not due to common religion

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

^That's what I was trying to say. It's possible that cultures are developed due to common region and often have more in common with neighbouring regions even if the religion of the neighbouring regions is different than their own.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

Urdu films used to be exhibited in East pakistan.. Even, they made Urdu films in East Pakistan, which were hit in West Pakistan. Your favorite Shabnam's earlier movies Chanda.. Nadeem's first movie 'Chakori' all were produced in East pakistan

Rehman

Hero, Producer and Director

First film: Chanda (1962)

Rehman was the most successful "Urdu film hero" from Dhaka, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). He debuted with Shabnum and Robin Gosh in film "Chanda" in 1962, which was a golden jubilee hit film. His second film "Talash" was another hit film. Rehman's third Dhaka-based film "Bahana" was an "out-door" made film in Karachi. Rehman produced and directed his first film "Millan" in 1964, which was a hit film but his second film "Eindhan" in 1966 could not succeed. But his second film Darshan became one of all time best and super hit musical film form Dhaka.
After some flop films from Dhaka like Gori, Jehan baje Shehnai, Pyasa, Kangan and Chalo maan geye, he moved to West Pakistan and got a role as second hero to Ejaz in Punjab films diamond jubilee Urdu film Dosti. He wrote the famous "Chithi" for "Sayyan jee" for Shabnum in this film. His second film as second hero to Nadeem in Nadaan was a Karachi made diamond jubilee hit film. But his other films were flopped as Tera Gham rahe salamat, Do tasveeren, Millan etc. He produced and directed to films in Lahore, Chahat was a super hit musical and romantic film but "Lagan" in 1981 was failed on box office.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

that is perception which was pointed out in years of tussle. Bengalis ladies wear bindi, their men wear lungi like Hindus. They love music and play musical instruments. All these perceptions earned Bengalis title of 'low-quality' Muslims

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

What about Bengali movies in Western provinces ?

I know Punjabi movies don't do well in Sind except for Karachi circuit where there are Punjabis.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

They were united back in 1947 :hmmm:

Muslim majority area of India… was west of Bengal… was the part of Pakistan since 1947 to 1971…

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

Don’t Punjabis do bhangRa ? :aejaz: :icono:

Bengladeshis are just more into song and dance.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

The feedback they usually received about their physique and looks wasn't so nice either.

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

They were not selected in Armed forces of Pakistan because of certain height criteria...

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

Besides those thing which Muqa mentioned…

Bengalis were look down upon by many Pakistanis… name calling… like bhooka bangali… nanga bangali… :nahi:

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

You know Javed Jabbar ?
Mehreen Jabbar’s father ? Mehreen who made Paamchand Pakistani with Indian actress Nandita Daass and child actor Fazal (who is now all over TV) ?

Javed used to be information minister.

What did he say that was annoying to Bangladeshis ?

Also, how come, they didn’t name the new country Bangaalistaan, like Pakistaan and Hindustaan ? :hehe:

Re: Did Bengalis leave marks of their Culture on West Pakistan?

Don't know about that.. as you mentioned for Punjabi movies, regional language movies were limited to areas, where language was understood. Bengali movies couldn't get audience in West pakistan due to language barrier. One thing is for sure, Bengali cinema and theater are one of the strong institutions of performing arts in sub-continent todate. They had tradition of good music and world class literature (Geetanjali getting Nobel). In Pakistan, Ihtesham (Nadeem's father in law) and Nazr ul Islam (known as dada) produced quality movies. I must mention, melodious 'Shehnaz Begum', to whom Pakistani nation will always remain indebted for rendering 'Jeeve Jeeve Pakistan', 'Moj baRhe ya aandhi aae, dia jalae rakhna hai' and 'Sohni Dharti Allah Rakhe'
