Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
its funny how some of you use the words nigga this and nigga that...but hate black people at the same time...its such a shame too..
i dont think its such a problem with all paki youth..it just depends who u socialize with...
i think some factors have to do with..where u grew up as well...
i think the best things is to surround yourself with people who are positive and wont bring you down...
it doesnt matter if they are...paki, desi, black, white..etc...as long as they are good honest people...u can never go wrong...
the only way u will ever know is by being open and friendly to everyone..and choosing ur friends wisely (of course..after u get to know the person) :)
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
Fraudia, please do write something on Pakistani-American pillocks as well, you know, the ones with tairhi topis and hanging chaddis and all with their 'souped up' rides and bling-bling. I would pay money to read that!
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
yara I would wait from some other expert to arrive from chuk # 42 zila mardaan who would become an expert on urban Pakistani-american phenomenon and culture in 5 months and then share their wisdom with us here. I would respond then :)
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
This is the funniest thread I have read in ages..
As a Brit (leave the Pakistani part to make life simpler for the moment.) I love all the accents and dialects from Britland... be they the oh so swoony Northern irish or the cutest norfolk accent to the ever so cockney rhyming east london accent....my hometown consists 99% causcasian..have the most lovely attribute of calling each other love/duck/petal/darling. Go into the market anyday and there'll be too huge burly men talking to each other and ending the conversation with alright duck.. see you later..
Go into the more desi populated areas u do get the "innit" language but I see nothing wrong with it.. I have a strong "proper english accent" but come out with dude/innit/you know what I mean with my innit friends and there's no malice at all.. maybe "5 months and I'm an expert" should embrace the differences rather than criticise.
I've been to Pak and heard guys end every word with Bhain/ Ma C....now come on that is a worse gali than ***** anyday.. and what about the wannabe western girls from the cosmo cities in pakistan with the hi yaar .. I nooooooo.. what iz shee doing yaaaarrrr .. she's such a ***** yaaaarrr.. Let's go have a coca cola yaar because we are just so western yaaarrrrr..
Come on... Atleast BBCD's have created a culture rather than trying to copy one.. isn't that right yaar because you're so blocked yaar...

Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
LOL funny yet interesting thread!
Well I for one have lived in America, Pakistan and of course born and bred in Britain, and the desi generation in the UK are far more religiously aware than in Pakistan. The youth in the UK are increasing their islamic knowledge rather adopting than the cultural heritage of their asian parents.
There are however desi's who live in predominately asian areas who do act like they are from the 'ghetto', however they kinda grow out of it when they reach uni. All the pakistani/desi's I know my age DO NOT use 'innit'/'wagwan' or 'blaaad'. It's a teen thing. By the time your 22+ and over with Uni and working in the real world then this lingo isn't commonly used.

How is forgetting your ethnic/cultural identity more Islamic in action?
Also, I'd disagree with you in what you say. I don't come from one of those poor areas where some British Asians live, but some of them do increase their own alienation by trying to be overly Islamic in outward appearance. This does not help them fit in with the wider community. I've been through some of these "ghetto" areas and it's like living in the Middle East or somewhere. A completely different world to where I grew up. Part of this is the fault of the people who no doubts get alienated, but part is the result of their own response to the alienation, which is due in part to their illiteracy and lack of schooling - none of them should be guilty of this in a free education country, but silly tribal systems like being over every single uncle or aunt in some Mirpuri areas are a big problem. This places too much burden on the families, and the younger generation cannot live properly in isolated cramped out conditions. Turning to Islam in the way they do is not the answer. Sure, turn to Islam, but also look at the wider picture - you need focus on other things also aside from Islam.
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
^ I think the point is that by living outside of Pakistan, many people are better able to distinguish between culture and religion. Also, there are many people in Pakistan who follow Islamic rituals because everyone else is doing it. There are far more passive followers. In contrast, a lot of people in the West have to make a conscious choice to be observant of Islam, and that leads to increased awareness and active participation in religious practices and way of life.
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
I agree with you on the opinion of lets say certain groups of people from certain areas from pakistan who all settle in one place together, that causes confusion with the new generation as they have problems communicating/knowing what culture to follow.
As for Dressing overly islamic? If they feel the need to express that they are muslim by wearing a burkha/beard/hijaab/turban this shouldn't make society less inclinced to accept them. In an ideal world that is, but let me ask you a question. How much do we need to integrate to 'be accepted?'
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
Parents need to encourage their children to progress in education and career. Thus broadoning their horizons and opening their avenues, but at the same time we CANNOT and SHOULD NOT compromise on our religion. Do jews stop dressing how they should or sikhs or do hindus stop wearing bindi's? Integration is good, we can promote ourselves as good citizens without becoming like the rest of society and losing ourselves. I think integration is positive but within limits.
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
They have to say "man" 2/3 times in one sentence (even if they are talkin to a women)and they have to end the sentence saying"innit"
hello,hi isnt used any more instead they use"Easyyyyyy bro" to greet person of any gender.
"safe" is used instead of bye..
they will call you "b!tch" even if you are male.
"bad" isnt bad any more its used to describe good things.."datz baddddd innit bro"lol
"laterz" is the most favourite word of desis gal..
and there are many thing like that... yeah how can i 4 get "cheerz maye"
ok now what i wanted to ask all of you and the point of this post is, do u guys find 'em bit different and weird like me or not..?????
I lived in UK for 5 years for my studies and no I did not find these things weird. In every country teens have different lingo. You will get used to it.
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
Hit a sore spot have I Roadrunner? ;)
You missed just about everything. Point is, SAYING "Let's go for a Cola" is not a western saying. It might be a Western product. Pakistanis that say this are not trying to act Western as was pointed out.
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
RoadRunner... Be it that I used Coca Cola instead of Rooh Hafza.. The moral of the story is there.. 4 u to concentrate on the coca cola means that you realise that the fundamental concept has been understood by your ickle ickle brain and you have no real argument to ocme back with therefore you're nit picking..
Anywaaaaaayz.. I'm goin' to have a pint of bitta and smoke my fag innit cos I wanna see what the niggaz are doi' on the tele.. you know innit man so wag waaaan me Bit**** and see you later duck :)
Re: Desi generation of Britain.., the confused creature
In Pakistan there is a culture, and there is a religion..true. In Britain there is also a culture and a religion. British Muslims do have a culture. I really don't get what you wrote, can you give examples?
