Re: Desi Fashion/Style Faux Pas:

Well for a change, I ll have to agree with SS  You guys do sound like a bunch typicall desi auntys :hehe: Goes for you as well Fraudz

Re: Desi Fashion/Style Faux Pas:

Ok, reading it now, I admit I did get a little carried away, I shouldnt have said all that even if I dont like the style, I guess its best to just keep it to myself. The intention was not to insult or scorn people who dress as such, but rather to point out why certain things dont work even though they might think it does… it was supposed to be constructive criticism but I guess it didnt work out too great :bummer:

I’ll be the first to say I’ve had my fashion donts as well… I am in no way perfect!

Sincere apologies to anyone who was offended, I realize the manner in which the message was conveyed was a bit distasteful.

Re: Desi Fashion/Style Faux Pas:

awwwwww kooochie kooochie lobby :hehe: Grown up reply
As they always say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If everybody had the same sense in style the world would be very boring. Respecting others no matter what and doing your own thing in your own style is the right way. :biggthumb

Re: Desi Fashion/Style Faux Pas:

sorry man but there is no excuse for dressing like a bafoon or smelling like a skunk. its socially unacceptable, hurts ppls chances for jobs or advancement. Its this kind of stuff that makes groups look bad. get in an leevator with bunch of freshies and then see how ppl around them react…

why is it okay for people to write about women wearing revealing dresses in pakistan, and then everyone is like oh yeah yeah, bad bad bad.

But write one thing about people smelling bad, ungroomed to a point that the only part of their head not shining with oil is where the clumps of dandruff are presenting a contrast.

why is it such a big deal? I mean if we are going to go ape over these comments then similarly we must react the same way to the tobah tobah..its qurb e qayamat ki nishani when they see clothes that are too revealing in their opinion, or too western etc

Re: Desi Fashion/Style Faux Pas:

Personal hygiene/smelling bad is one thing but making fun for what they wear? cmon.... I found it really rude that some here ridiculed aunties for tying their few streands of hair in buns... I mean wat the heck, you xpect them to go get extensions or shave their heads or something?

This thread isnt really doing anybody a service..if someone comes up to you and says "help me shop, or pick out wahts nice" then by all means go aead and give advice...bbut why the heck would u post a picture of some stranger? How would YOU feel if someone took a picture of something you liked bu they thot was hideous and passed it around to show everyone?

and YES I know I contributed a lil bit in this thread but I still found most of hte conversation here very arrogant and just mean...nobody made u fashoin police, hell I find most "fashoin police" who go after ppl on the streets really petty and pathetic.

Re: Desi Fashion/Style Faux Pas:

SS I agree the tone of some posts was harsh but in no way insults directed at particular individuals.

Sara its pictures of someones boots, their identity is not being revealed in any way. Besides I think it is hardly as bad as posting random bridal pictures and then critically commenting on the brides jewelry, makeup and outfit.

Re: Desi Fashion/Style Faux Pas:

when you join the real world and you reject desi after desi for a job because they simply are not polished enough ti be put in front of a client, then you may realize why I feel strongly about this topic.

when you try to give desis an edge because you hear complaints like oh desis dont help other desis. and then you bring them in for interviews and its a friggin trainwreck...what do you do then, tell the guy, listen take a shower, get your clotehs pressed, toss the 1970's style tie, trim your mustache, wear proper shoes..

I myself have refused to put a desi techie in front of a client just last week because the guy while technically competent, just was completely unaccpetable.

No one needs to look like they walked out of a GQ page, but one should not be so oblivious to what is expected in the society around them. It does not impact them only, it impacts others around them as well. sorry but stereotypes exist, biases get formed, and we can not feed into those.

in UK, aside from the racism part, our people gave the ppl good reasons to call em smelly..why, because they friggin are smelly.

when you watch english asian satire like Real Mccoy or goodness gracious me, they too poke fun at desi faux pas, ranging from losers acting ghetto to clueless wannabes.

This is different from being a fashion police and picking up on minute things because oh they are not in this season, or that they are not up on the latest style.

as long as ppl take a look around stop being so damn clueless, and pay a little attention to their surroundings and then a little attention to what they wear, how they wear it, how they groom themselves and how they deal with personal hygiene, I am fine.

everything that I have listed is not going to fly in majority of the workplace except at some starter level.
