ONLY in Mumbai, this word is used with a hint of insult but in UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh it’s used for a ‘nice and easy going person’ (a thorough gentleman)…everyone calls everyone else as ‘Bhaiya Jii’ in UP at least. so, it’s not a derogatory word at all.
