Debating the hijab

Re: Debating the Hijab

bugged while wearing hijab ... my point was that, i find it hard to believe that ppl r really as rude and messed up towards hijabis as i've seen some girls posting... while i wore it everyone was respectful to me (well not more respectful than now tho), nobody bothers my mom.. in fact the only time i ever got negative comments about my scarf were from so-called Muslims :Dso i guess it goes to show that not all non-Muslims are evil and nasty and mean towards us poor girls :p

Re: Debating the Hijab

i think the only people that complain about being “bugged” while wearing hijab are people that are looking for an excuse not to wear it.

You make a very good point about how it’s typically muslims that make negative comments about the hijab…non-muslims appear to be more tolerant.

Once I wore a hijab on my head for the entire month of ramadan to see what the experience would be like… kind of like testing the waters if you will. Aunties were like “oh-ho ye tou hijaban bun gayee” This one muslim man (uncle) went as far as saying that i joined the Taliban  Yet non-muslim men would step aside so that they wouldnt walk to close to me. Otherwise they usually didnt even care if they brushed up against me as they walked past me. It was a great feeling wearing it. It’s too bad that i dont/didnt get any support from my own muslim brothers and sisters.

Re: Debating the Hijab

No it's not that AE... ive known grlz who wore it and they siad they got really evil stares on the subway or something... and htey can't react b/c they dont want ppl to attribute their reaction to what Islam is about, like Islam lets you curse out old ladies or be rude or mean or something... im in NYC, so its not like im in a redneck town but still... maybe when i go visit my bro n bhabi ill wear it and c the reaction from the locals there :D

Re: Debating the Hijab

yea you are in “jew town”

Re: Debating the Hijab

I still dont' see this all making sense.

Why are we discussing how people react to hijaab?
The whole of Arabia was against the Prophet pbuh. He had no one but khadija, Abu Bakr and a select few that were with him. Now he has an ummah after Ummah. All thanks to Allah.

If we just shift our focus from worrying about how we will be treated and what society makes of us, and focus on the struggle for Allah swt, and the pleasure we give him, maybe we can get a better understanding of Hijaab and devotion to Allah itself.

Really the world is more scary than your own creator?

Re: Debating the Hijab

Angel Eyes, don’t feel bad about it. Masha’allah at least you are giving a thought into it. Take your time and what ever decision you make, keep Allah (s.w.t) in your mind and heart then make take a step without any fear. Insha’allah you will be guided by HIM and indeed will be helped by HIM.

Re: Debating the Hijab

true and very VALID point here that people need to understand. I just hope and wish our own muslims try to think like that…i just hope and wish!

Re: Debating the Hijab

hmm I share none of your point of views on hijab and to be honest if you would like me not to be muslim any more you would not do anything other than posting that king of stuff…but as crescnet sayswhatever float my boat

Re: Debating the Hijab

Noor, I wasn’t trying to offend you or anything, I was talking from my own experience from what i have seen.

Re: Debating the Hijab

you’re an innocent one…nt an old perv…so you can’t understand:D, but the devil advocates like me…know all the bad stuff in that world…what is the worst beyond your imagination does exist thought…
remember that men do prefer what they can’t have to what they can have…so the hijabi may be more attractive than the slut next door:( …unfortuantely

Re: Debating the Hijab

we do not have the same cultural background, skin/hair color and place of living, hence we have different experiences …that’s why you can’t understand me and no one else on this board

Re: Debating the Hijab

Aren’t you from Paris noor? Where supposedly the largest Pro Hijaab Protest took place?

Re: Debating the Hijab

yep political stuff i am not a political woman…
those people just want muslims to get kickked in tha a$$ by french:rolleyes: i’m not looking for war all I want is peace!

and i don’t need to have tons of arabs running after me asking my parents phone number…hence no more scarf in france
i am muslim by faith not for political purpose!!
hijab in the west is a political act..not a faith act…sadly…too many women turned the veil to a symbol of resistance and anti-west feelings…:frowning: :frowning: :frowning:
i impose my modesty and chastity by the way i dress, act and speak…i don’t need the scarf in the west to get men understand that I’m not a doll…
but in pak…sure i wear it, cause i’m not a “liberated” women by paki standards…so i wear it there:D …but not in india…men are too excited by hijabi in india:D

ps: i tested hijab/no hijab in different places and observed men reaction…then decided to adopt the dress code resulting in the least oogling

Re: Debating the Hijab

i don’t think those sisters were concerned with political agenda…

Anyways, my final word on this is God’s pleasure prevails over all. Whether Men oogle at me if i wear a hijaab, as long as I satisfy what God Requires of me, I’m fine. The world is nothing.

Re: Debating the Hijab

 …do you think it is fine to be tempting:eek:

sorry i don’t share that view…when you what is the most tempting and still behave this way :nono:

ps: those sisters were manipulated by political guys:rolleyes: (with or without beard)

Re: Debating the Hijab

Parris  Waisey i’ve herd a lot bout french culture, how it’s very open, very very slutty by Islamic standards.. my professor whos from South africa, said that in France, she cudn’t do ANYTHING without flirting with someone, bank teller, mailman, whatever.. flirting and beauty is such an integral part of the soceity, and that there wearing scarf and hijab is a very strong political and social statement… hmm

Re: Debating the Hijab

I’m not saying I don’t trust Hadith. But I don’t place the same faith in them that I do in the Quran.

I do not understand Arabic; perhaps I have read bad translations. But I have checked multiple ones in order to develop my own personal understanding of the Quran, and I have only seen a reference to covering the chest.

Re: Debating the Hijab

I’d love to see a scholarly discussion. If you have a reference, please share it.

Re: Debating the Hijab

Sahar before I can answer you. Do you understand the relationship of Quran and Sunnah? To believe in the Quran and not the hadith is like not believing in the Quran itself.

Re: Debating the Hijab

…sara!! so you can understand me:) !

crescent bhai…your statement about hadith and quran is an incitation to leave Islam:eek:  do you really mean it??
