if you're a Muslim, then maintaining modesty according to the times and society you live in is sufficient.. if you belong to some other religion like the Sunni madhab, or the Hanfi madhab or various other religions then do as your scholars tell you.
when you wear hijab especially in the west you attract more attention on you and that’s the opposite of what a modest women wants…
when you wear hijab in the east you attract curiosity cause men wants to know what’s behind…
if that was true men would oogle at hijabi…but they do..a lot!
if that was true why have i been more harrassed when i was wearing hijab than not?
if that was true why are women hijabi raped sometimes too?
It gets confusing Sahar. The copy of the Quran (english translation) we were given in Saudi by the government earlier this year says that women should wear black gloves and I believe black socks too and keep everything covered except the eyes. I can’t remember the exact text but I was quite surprised to read that. Of course, all of this text was added in brackets next to the translation … which leads me to believe that this was added on by the translator and isn’t actually part of the Quran.
you may attract attention by wearing a hijab but it’s not sexual attention. The attention you are referring to is completely different. The hijab is to prevent women from being looked at in a sexual way. In Islam our hijab is suppose to set us apart from the rest. when one see a man’s with a beard or a woman wearing a headcovering…it is known to them that we are muslim. i wouldnt mind that kind of attention.
men in general are curious about women..it’s in their nature be it in the east or west. A man may see a woman with a hijab/niqaab and may wonder what the woman’s face looks like underneath it and a man who see’s a woman w/o a hijab may wonder what her body looks like underneath her clothes. your argument here is not limited to just hijabi women…it can go either way.
men nvr “oogle” at hijabi women if they are dressed according to the Shariah. once again hijab is not just a headcovering it is also the way you carry yourself, the way you talk and the way you dress from head to toe.
keep in mind there is a difference b/w being sexually harrassed and just being harrassed because of your religion.
once again rapes are not just limited to hijabi women alone. statistically who gets raped more often …hijabi women or non-hijabi’s? (muslims or non-muslims) u do the research!
Why are women the object of 'sexual' attention? Answer: MEN. If Hijab was supposed to protect women from the lustful eyes of 'men' then should'nt responsibility of reforming society lie with men? If society is to be protected by having women covered, then why not just have a chastity belt for men, this way not only women will be safe, pretty young boyz will also feel safe from the leery eyes of perverted men.
God states very clearly he is the creator of the entire universe and God for all humanity, yet we are willing to accept a inferior, subjugated role for women?

Beards and hijabs are also associated with other religions, so it cannot used as a differentiator. As for attarcting sexual attention, well u r sadly mistaken, Hijab does not provide any guarantees nor does it prevent oggling men from staring and wanting those objects of sexual desires.
It has nothing to do with Hijabs or Beards, its all in the intention (Niyaath), fear of retribution from the state or Allah and most importantly respect of other ppls privacy and rights.

What makes u think women are not curious about men? It works both ways.

Common factor in both cases is the evilness of the male specie. Male specie no matter living in a western society or a Islamic society feels they can subjugate women for their sexual needs. Statistically, do u have any numbers on how many women are raped in Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia? Try doing the research...
Your first paragraph refers to the control on men?
Men are commanded to Lower their gaze anyways. Whether a women wears a hijaab or not!
Practicing hijaab is a form of Ibaadah.
Now i’ll write something that will people flip their heads, and before you do, I want you to understand the reasoning behind it.
Go to Any Ullema-e-Haqq, or Any sheikh that has Isnad and Ijaza, and he will tell you this same thing. Go to any Non muslim, or any ‘islamic’ civil rights (yeah..ok.) group and they will tell you something else.
Men and Women are not equal.
The above statement can be further elaborated into a thread of its own.
NOW LISTEN..before you go berserk, you have to understand that this DOES NOT MEAN that Men have the following:

Your sense of the term 'hijab' is limited to "scholars" such as Fatima and all those other uneducated "scholars" you follow.
Hjiaab is form of Ibaadah.

Action follows NIyaah. Niyaah is nothing without Action. Even an atheist will tell you that!

can you enlighten us with your research? please :)
Before you say such a thing you should be sure to do your research on the proper Shariah way of wearing a beard and hijab. The way a muslim man wears his beard is completely different from a non-muslim.
“Be different from the Mushrikin; trim your moustaches and save your beards.”
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
And i dont know what other religion you are referring to that wears the hijab the way our muslimah’s wear them.
Men and women both are supposed to lower their gaze, BUT do they? Try standing on a roadside in riyadh, Karachi, Lahore, Cairo, Abu Dhabi wearing proper attire not attracting attention and see how Muslim men lower their gaze. But has anything been done to implement that particular verse which req men to lower their gaze? Then why all the stress on putting women in a black cover and make it a pillar of Islam, when its not? Answer lies in our patriachel society.
well it won’t be for the money.. if at all, i’d love to write up something that isn’t as ludicrious as the hundreds of repetitive unscientific and totally unreasonable books available on the subject.
Fear not, there are more knowledgable people today than ever befre who are devoting their time to straightening this mess out.. inshallah we’ll rescue Islam from this ‘madhab’ mafia someday..
If beards were such an integral part of our religion as req by Allah, then why wud God deprive 1 Bln ppl of his creation of this simple opportunity? U do know that the Oriental males cannot grow beards? Its not in their genes.
Hijaab/head scarfs are worn by Catholics, Jewish, Maronite and orthodox christian women. We can debate the differences, fact remains intent is the same.
