There are benchmarks.

Average IQ = 100, know yue basic math, sin 90=1, cos 0=1, newton’s laws of gravity, K= pottasium and Na = sodium, basic english grammar : no dangling modifiers, no ending sentences with a preposition. some basic knowledgs about politics, economics, and everyday world. Oh, loves John Grisham.

Below average = one standard deviation from the norm which is about 15 IQ points, which is 85. If you talk to someone, you will know. Mostly NASCAR, Beer and chicks. For women, it’s non-stop ramblings about inane crap about nada. Voracious reader of junk tabloid magazines sold on impulse buying racks at Wal-mart.

Above Averge = one to two standard deviation UP at 115 and 130, respectively.
College degree, master’s degree. Knows all the things an average person knows and more.
reads Kierkagard, Darwin at the same time. Thinks Adam Smith’s “wealth of nations” was a good read. Follows the stock market and knows the basics of futures, derivatives and how they are traded. reads NYT cover to cover. rey’s anatomy is a must, even though he/she is not in medical school. Can kick your ass in chess. Jeopardy is at times boring. Extremeley health conscious (some guppans on GS). And avoids cafe like a plague

the above has everything to do with the society u grew up in (upper/midle/lower class), how much money ure family has, how privalliged ure childhood was and NOTHING to do with intelligence.

I knew the sin stuff, but forgot it coz i haven’t taken a math class in uhhh 4 years. Never took chemistry, dont know beyond that carbon monoxide is poisonous and h20 is water.. and I dont really like john grisham..

intelligence is more about how to handle problems in life and get out of any situations, even bad ones

I completely agree with you. But I dont think there exists one universal standard test that measures raw itelligence.

I am sure there is a raggedy kids running around the fish market in Vietnam who can tell you 1+1/2+1/4+1/8+1/16…will never add up to 2, but that kid is not in Harvard, is he?

to measure something, you have to know first what it is in order to design the appropriate measure tool

BUT what is intelligence? there is not set answer. it's philosophical debate, for example, some argue animals are intelligent some say no...

so it can not be measured;)

I’ve had this problem since childhood, i have problems to deal with people who are not as intelligent/educated/quick as me:bummer:
I simply find it hard to imagine how long it takes for “stanrdard” brain to memorise something, or to get the meaning of a little bit intellectual piece of work. And when i talk about thing in a natural way, for me, those who don’t have a brain as quick as mine, or with same “storage facilities” as mine, feel insulted:bummer:
well this problem occurs mainly at school of course, i thought it was maybe jealousy at first , but now as i’m older i think it’s kinda difficult for brains with different “thinking speed” to communicate to each other smoothly as no matter what you say, you can’t really make another brain understand things as quick as you’d wish it…and end up frustrated about waiting ages for others to get the point:bummer:

has someone face it too? do you think there is another “cure” than shutting up?

it is really sadening to me , especially after saw a girl bursting into cries at work one day, saying to our manager “it’s not fair we have this gifted gal with us so the formation will allways be too fast for us!”
damn she seemed so desperate…

i allways seek to learn, and that’s what is the cause to my knowledge, i never give up learning from others, i listen to them, observe their reactions, and their behaviors, and read carefully all experiences…i never give up learning, because my brain is made for learning

if you don’t like learning, you probably like something else, so be it, and do it
