Joking aside, I actually used to think I was smart and got frustrated with people who were not on the same wavelength as mine. Then I met Dr. Mallory, a good friend of Linus Pauling, and I knew what the true geniuses are made of. This guy, if he wanted to, could hand your ass over to you in a second, but he never chose to. Now, that’s a gentleman for you right there. Needless to mention, this experience brought me back to earth.

You seem to be suffering from hubris, not something ur religion preaches. For a cure imagine urself between people who are smarter than you and see how you would feel if they couldn't tolerate your low intelligence level. Make amendments accordingly.

the veiws can not be above average, because personal opinions are not revealing intelligence, intelligence is revealed by the logical arguments used to prove a point, or the LACK of arguments !

intelligence can also be assessed by the broadness (?) of one's intellectual interests and abilities to understand various topics, especially complex issues

i have thought the emptiness of S&P forum on gupshup has a revealing data about the lack of intellectual interests of average guppies, which seeems to me linked fisrt of all to the young age of most guppies.

*i might be proud, sometimes, depending on the situation, i may seem arrogant (especially to perv who try to hit on me :cb:) but lack of knowledge and interest? where is the bounary set? and who sets it?
everyone has a lack of knowledge in some fields, for example i’m clueless about African history:( i never had an interest for it, and never learned it
i’m also not very aware of medicine, i mean i’m not a doctor:D

who can pretend to all know about all?? those who target others as hubris??

the important thing about this thread is how u percieve intelligence, most people are lazy and don't bother trying to understand things, they look at things in different ways to other people, like 'why do i need to know that, that ain't gonna help me in the future'..things like that, this has something to do with how they bought up, then u got people who are academically successful, but in real life situation, and by that i mean quite simple everyday things, they don't know what to do, when it come to thinking practically they get totally lost, because they concentrate on getting straight A's, by that i mean they spend most of their time trying to perfect their study techniques, therefore achieving better results in exams, such people use these results as a measure of their intelligence, u know, so and so got 8 A's, he/she is so clever. but thats a load of bull, u can't measure a persons intelligence by exam results, because the result in most cases depends on time spent on revision and how good a persons memory is. the way i judge a persons intelligence is how that person deals with a situation/problem they have never come accross before, that way they have to use theyr'e brain power instead of anything theyv'e studied or memorised, and in my experience i can (almost all the time) out smart "the really intelligent" people, and throughout my education i have never prioritised getting A's, as lojng as i got what i needed to get through i was happy, never saw the need to waste my time studying all the time, but it worked for me, i've got my degree in engineering without to much difficulty even though i was doing a 24-36 hour part time job.
and u get people who claim to be so intelligent and do degree's in subjects which to me, i think i could fly through even easier, and theyr'e always complaining, 'the works really difficult', or 'ure lucky ure not doing this course'.
i've seen people who other people percieve as clever, get get hussled on the street by so called 'uneducated bums', and before anyone says, thats nothing to do with intelligence and he wasn't street smart, i'll tell u, intelligence is about asking ureself the who, why, when and what if's in any given situation. u can find knowlege in a book, but intelligence comes partially from experiences, learning from them and applying what uv'e learn't to other things ure doing. this can increase ure IQ

There are benchmarks.

Average IQ = 100, know yue basic math, sin 90=1, cos 0=1, newton's laws of gravity, K= pottasium and Na = sodium, basic english grammar : no dangling modifiers, no ending sentences with a preposition. some basic knowledgs about politics, economics, and everyday world. Oh, loves John Grisham.

Below average = one standard deviation from the norm which is about 15 IQ points, which is 85. If you talk to someone, you will know. Mostly NASCAR, Beer and chicks. For women, it's non-stop ramblings about inane crap about nada. Voracious reader of junk tabloid magazines sold on impulse buying racks at Wal-mart.

Above Averge = one to two standard deviation UP at 115 and 130, respectively.
College degree, master's degree. Knows all the things an average person knows and more.
reads Kierkagard, Darwin at the same time. Thinks Adam Smith's "wealth of nations" was a good read. Follows the stock market and knows the basics of futures, derivatives and how they are traded. reads NYT cover to cover. rey's anatomy is a must, even though he/she is not in medical school. Can kick your ass in chess. Jeopardy is at times boring. Extremeley health conscious (some guppans on GS). And avoids cafe like a plague :)
