Re: DANCE PARTY in Lahore
1) there was a dance party in lahore: well big deal, there are many dance and rave parties throughout pakistan...and even in fact in saudi arabia!!! shocker?? no not really...its a known thing...albeit the frequencies have increased...
2) now if people have a problem, they can always show it by exercising thier vote by voting for our "dearest freinds" the MMA (i admit the elections in pak r not xaclt fair)
3) women do get abused throughout the world...true...but one has to look at figures a bit critically...
in pakistan there is high rate of abuse...especially in rural areas, where no reporting happenes...or say the FATA where the govt has virtually no power at all! and about rape women are scared to speak up possibly due to a) fear fo shame or b) death threats
yes admitted rape and abuse does happen there, but the point is that our religion and culture is totally agianst something as such, why are we comparing ourselves with the west...any rape is bad...
and about women being safer in the west...depends where......in canada women would be safer...not so sure about a place like say, nyc.
i will relate 2 recent example of abuse in the saudi arabia, one in damam, while i was there for a visit, and one in riyadh. in khobar, me and a bunch of freinds where walking down corniche road, and 2 girls in abayas (burqas), with the veil were being chased i the car park of the mall by 6 saudis in their cars...this kind of thing is common here...whereas in the west the types of girls that are usually harrased would be those that wear virtually nothing
and other case is something that became quite famous here...a group of 4 girls being harrased and felt up in riyadh by a group of 4 saudi guys...on a desreted road in the capital...this was one instance where the boys were sentneced each to approximately 15 years and 18 lashes of the whip...
the second case shows how women may be safer in the muslim world...but the 1st case does show that abuse and harrasment is usually unprovoked and would not happen if there was slightly more inter-mogling of the sexes...
both fret and jaani have some valid points, but at the end of the day, the lives belong to those ppl who actually went to those parties...and its their choice... if they want to sin, its their life...jaani nothing u say or do would affect them unless u put a "promotion for virtue/prevention of vice police force" (or mutawwa as we know them in saudi), that kicks their ass...but even then thes people will find ways...like they have in saudi arabia...
fret...your right to say its their life...and that everyone sould be free to make thier own choice about religion and their actions...if some one wants to drink despite being muslim...let them...if some else doesnt want to...then good for them...i think it should just be upto a person to make a value judgement for themselves...its upto people what thy want in this life and in the "life after death"
peace out people cuz this is one topic which is never ending...
