Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006
i liked it. i think they fit most of the important details of the book into the movie very well. it doesnt really have a big sorta climax or something but maybe its cuz we all KNEW what was going to happen.
Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006
Well it was a weekend and I was pretty much alone at home so I’m justified
Saw the movie yesterday. I got comfortable with Hanks as Langdon and even Ian McKellen as Teabing. They didn’t follow the book to a tee unless I have already forgotten the book. I think as per the book Sophie Neveu has a brother too whom she meets at the end along with the grandmother, there was no mention of the brother in the movie. Also in the book Langdon and Sophie go to a library to solve the code whereas in the movie they borrow a southasian looking kids cell phone on the bus to do an internet search on the code! There is a lot they couldn;t capture in the movie so they had to keep showing images to accomplish that e.g. whenever they went back in to history they would actually show it enacted on the screen. Seemed like they had to put too much effort in educating the viewers about the basis of the movie.

I watched it last night the last show at 11:00pm and boy, no need to say that theater was full to the first row. They had show every half an hour and cenima management had difficult time to lineup people for each show seperately. They did a good job I must say.
Anyway, the movie was a good watch over all. The suspense factor was diminished if one compares it with the book, or may be it looked like it since I knew who is what since I read the book. But for a person who didn't read the book or don't know the history that much it was a thrilling 2.5 hours high doze of history and symbolism. The other two person that accompanied me enjoyed it more than myself since they didn't have clue about the story before watching.

I finally managed to watch it on DVD (not a master print though but good quality). I must say that french speaking french was somewhat fresh because in past Jean Reno, who i think is a fabulous actor, has failed with his english and it was good that they let natives speak in french rather than in English.
As far as movie is concerned, ron Howard tried his best to capture the essence of the book. His problem was that the book was too theoretical. But he also tackled it quite in an imaginative way with the clips and all. I agree with smoothie that suspense factor was slightly missing but then again we have read the book so we knew whats gonna happen.
Regarding acting, I have said all along that Tom Hanks would ace this role but he was surprisingly subdued in the earlier scenes (dont know if they were shot in the middle of the making process or beginning). But since meeting Teabing his acting was as precise and natural as it should have been. Audrey tautou was really good. I wanted to see Julie Delphie in that role but audrey was awesome. Paul Bettany is too likeable a person to play such a horrible monk and he did a fantastic job. Was the best performer in the movie. Ian mckellen seemed to have lots of fun playing Teabing and perfectly adjusted to the role.
a 7/10 movie but pales in comparison with the book itself.

I watched this movie last weekend. I didn't like it that much. Begining was better but they missed many incidence and some part of the movie was misplaced as well. The last part was very boring for me.I slept in the theater when she found her granny and brother. :D
Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006
Finally saw it. Was better than I expected, tho certainly doesn't compare to the book. I think I enjoyed it more because it's been a couple years since I read the book and didn't remember all the details of the plot events.

Da Vinci Code banned in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday banned cinemas from showing the movie “The Da Vinci Code” following protests by the country’s minority Christian community.
Although the film has not been screened in any theatre in Pakistan, a government announcement said authorities decided to ban it out of respect for the feelings of Christians, some of whom have said the movie is insulting. Minister for Culture Ghulam Jamal said the movie was banned as it contained blasphemous material on Jesus Christ. staff report

^ Best way to increase its popularity for a population that probably wouldn't have bothered to see it. Besides, are they going to confiscate all the bootlegs as well?

I enjoyed it!! I thought I might be bored since that's what the reviews coming out were saying but it has been a couple of years since I've read the book so for me it was like re-discovering the story :-) We had a ball watching it :D The albino monk was freaky and awesome!!!
