Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006
Watched it over the weekend. I had read the book and I definitely enjoyed the movie. A friend of mine who was with me had not read the book and enjoyed the movie even more, primarily because the story has lots of twists and turns and some element of mystery that is obviously lost on one who had read the book.
Overall, its a well made movie. Quite faithful to the book. As the book was too long, so they removed some fluff and stuck with the core story line. Scenes across Paris are nicely picturized. Hanks and Tatou acted very well. The most entertaining character was Sir Lee. The self-torture scenes of Silas were the only let down in the movie, simply because they were not critical to the storyline and dragged a lot. Story moves very quickly, and for the uninitiated, the whole theory surrounding the royal blood line can be very fascinating. In my mind, the high points of the movie were the flashbacks to historical events to relate them with the whole controversial theory.
If you have not read the book, then don't bother doing it before watching the movie.
