Curling hair w/ a straightener

That sounds like a paradox, but my friend showed me how to do it once. I think it only works with straighteners that go up to like 400F (I have a CHI). You just take a small section of hair and you clamp the straightener at the top and then turn it so you wrap the hair piece around it, and then pull down and somehow it curls! :open_mouth:

I’ve tried it before on a few strands of hair and it turned out okay-ish, but I can’t do em perfect each time… Has anyone curled all of their hair with a flat iron? Did it turn out okay? I wanted loose curls for prom so I was going to try doing it. Should I put anything in my hair or will the curls stay in long enough?

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

I've done it with a Corioliss hair straightener. They look cooooooool.

You take a little section at a time. Be sure to gently release the hair. The curls are more long lasting then.

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

oo yea my cousin has Corioliss - it's nice. How long did it take? And did it damage your hair at all? Cuz when I tried it as I was twisting the iron, I could see smoke coming out!!! eeek! =\

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

Yeah it works but not for all straighters..like mine :bummer: you can use hair protecting serums if you want.
There’s plenty of videos you can find on youtube of how to do it with different tricks…
Did you already go to prom? How was it?

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

No, no hair damage. Took about 15 mins. I have semi-long thick hair. The Corioliss gets hot and does steam too, but my hair was fine.

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

relaly they work with corioliss???

im gonna try now..!

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

^ Corioliss, CHI, Sedu, GHD, Solia.. are all pretty good companies. A good flat iron would be around $100… but soooo worth it, wouldn’t you agree? :phati:

pyari si - nopes. Prom is next weekend - May 3rd.

Niksik - okay cool. Thanks =] I will test some pieces tonight :phati:

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

i def agree, i pretty much hate my hair unstraightened! and its really hard to find one that actually works so its better to go with one of the above. whenever i change mine i wana get the CHI.

ps: hope ur hair turns out nice, we wanna see!

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

I had my hair done for a wedding, and the stylist gave me loose/soft curls with a straightener. But i think it depends on the size of it because that was very narrow. the one i have is very big, i use it only a little bit for ends and all...so i haven't tried that yet.

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

the one i have is narrow. the only problem is that sometimes i mess up the curl and it just looks deformed and then if you try to go over it and curl it again it doesn’t work right :bummer:.

i just curled some strands it looks cute i love it =]

can anyone recommend a hair protectant spray to protect my hair from heat damage?

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

i burned my finger. it hurts like hell :(

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

^^ sorry, I was going to say that curling with a straight iron can be a very tedious process and you might burn your finger, but when i saw all the replies in favor of curling with a straight iron, I decided to stay quiet… maybe I should have said that lolz…
Anyway cover you finger with ice bag. I hope it gets better. :hugz:

And be careful in the future.

Also if you wants curls, either get a electric curler or get those rollers…

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

Yea I have hot rollers but it takes forever and they fall out too easily...

and yea i'm putting my fingers on an ice bag :P

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

maybe it sone of those things tht can be done by someone else... like the perfect blow drying =//

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

yeaaa, maybe… :hinna:

but i will try. :phati:

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

Here you go, this is how I learned to do it. hehe

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

…

my hair masallah looked fab…n lasted until i washed my hair…and she did use a hair serum

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

I tried it and couldn't make it work.

Re: Curling hair w/ a straightener

oops , the video was already posted in another thread.

But it works for me.I guess the iron has to be narrow for it to work.
