Nice words!!! In my family, there is a girl who is divorced and using her assets to open up a business because she can't get a job with her degree. She has been a housewife for long time. Having an extra money and property and other asserts do help when needed. She needs to support her daughter and everyone walked out of her life for help.

i am getting a headache now. I speak from my experience and you speak from yours.

Roughly between $30,000 to $35,000 CAD in 2009. That includes costs from both our sides.

Everyone in this thread need to get down from their high horses already. This goes for both parties - the $200k+ and the cheapsters. Each to his own seriously - I know a concept very unfamiliar to you desi lot but try it someday :rolleyes: Spending more/less isn’t going to get you a medal anyway. :smack2: :rolleyes:

Anyway, I fail to understand why do people insist on ‘good food’ and ‘people will remember for ages’ concept and spend money on just hearing ‘wah wah’ from people they hardly meet all their life ? All good or bad food is converted into poop which looks the same for any kind of food consumed and ends up down in the loo ! (scientifically speaking). People go for getting the nikah done because nikah is sunnah but forget about how is a nikah supposed to be done as per sunnah. We are a confused nation anyway.

Coming to the topic, I just arranged the whole wedding for my brother last weekend. Bhabi’s family luckily shared the same thoughts as us, we didnt do the mehndi. Nikah was in a small hall in islamabad with 35 people from their side (parents, siblings,first degree aunts and uncles) and 15 from ours (parents, siblings, spouses of siblings and parents-in-laws), decent event. Walima was same amount of people again in Lahore but 8 people (siblings and parents) from their side and around 40 from our (khala/mamoo included now) and was at a buffet restaurant instead of a wedding hall. No Jahaiz accepted, No bari given, No salaami/gifts allowed. She brought few outfits and jewelry she owned, we made the bridal dress (which was a light dupatta and shirt and dhaka pants..no lehnga gharara thing) and 4-5 light formals since summers are coming up and 4-5 casuals and they started their new life with blessing of everyone.
