I would like to have a small, intimate gathering on my wedding...mehndi/nikah/walima. I am not sure if I'll have a wedding in Pak or here. Depending on where it is, the budget will be different, as you can do more in Pak with less. The number of people who attend will also depend on where it is. Ideally, around 150 people on baraat so whatever that comes to. Mehndi and walima don't have to be extravagant. I'm not brand obsessed, but I'll make sure the dresses/jewelry/hall decorations etc are sophisticated and memorable.

The barat and walima - Being the only girl of my parents and husband being the youngest in his. You can imagine what took place. Best to not say anything
Personally I wouldn’t change anything. I like small intimate gatherings but I don’t regret how our wedding was.

Just curious, I'm guessing your family is really well off as well right? Like you guys have businesses and alot of real estate? Just asking because I can't imagin spending like that if your middle class. Either way good for you guys!

We get married once so why not spend it and enjoy! The special occasion gets stored in our lifetime memory... Gold, car, clothes, wedding planning, venue, good food, and memories remain with us forever! I don't think it is stupid. I'd never want a simple wedding for myself!... You get to be a prince and princess once where everyone has their eyes on you!

It is very common amongst Lahoris! We spend a lot in our weddings.

Alot of people spend, but 200k is alot of money. So just curious, am I right, are you guys like upper class wealthy? or are you taking on debt?

You can have a beautiful and elegant function in that budget and even less.
I’ve helped plan out so many weddings it was a cinch planning mine for $1200. Having only girls and being responsible for majority of the functions, you learn to be creative, innovative and do it ALL yourself. My stage was put together by my sisters and people were asking me who I hired…repeatedly…until I told them it was home made and that got me a

My wedding was £80,000 and that was 2 weeks ago. I quite agree with cpa2011 and the other posters who stated that getting into debt to pay for a wedding is extremely unwise. We did not go that route and that was never an option from our view.
I also think it is important to note that the amount of money spent on a wedding is not indicative of taste. As the saying goes, money cannot buy class. I've attended £40,000 weddings that were lovely and quite elegant and £100,000+ weddings that were rather tasteless and resembled something from that series, Gypsy Weddings.
