I don’t agree with this analysis. Asking Army not stay in power does not mean you hate the army. No sane Pakistani will be against the army. That is the rhetoric that extremists use.
Who will build that system for you? Democracy is so much more than an election. What about free speech? Independent judiciary? Civic agencies that promote democratic values like non-discrimination, human rights etc? If you are going to wait for the army to build that for you, am sorry, you will have to wait another 60 years. The intelligentsia has no other option than to stay involved and keep army at bay.

Mushy strengthened MQM, but today it is only the Army that’s teaching them a lesson and trying to clean that terrorist organisation. Don’t you dare dare tell me how police and PMLN loons has the guts to touch MQM. If it wasn’t for rangers taking control of law and order of Karachi, half of PTI’s top leadership would’ve been dead for even entering NA-246.

No where I have said Army must ‘build’ democracy. So much for passionately supporting an electoral reform, campaigning against electoral rigging and supporting a civilian democratic party, it’d be quite pathetic of me to hope for army to ‘build’ democracy. Tell the people who cry about army take a no nonsense, absolutely zero tolerance stance against electoral rigging if they love democracy so much? These hypocrites should be the last people on earth to lecture about democracy. I’m not one of those mindless haters or nor an Indian who like to propose Pakistan army as an easy punching bag or promote this feel good pseudo-intellectual contemptuous attitude.
I know exactly what this institution means to average Pakistani and how they look up to this institution to play their role constructively in making Pakistan a better place. There is awful lot of things military can do to accommodate the democratic process. Yes they absolutely can. Just look at the role they had played in ensuring NA-246 re-polling is a totally bloodless and fair process.

Please explain if PTI is a political branch of GHQ why the alleged runners and controllers of Pakistan couldn’t get them handful of more seats from their own backyard? Be it General Elections in Punjab or recent Cantonment elections?
But what would the likes of you know about democracy and how it produces results. For you the definition of democracy is sitting in faraway countries acting dastardly contemptuous against an institution whose proud sons have dedicated their lives to ensure Pakistan does not become another Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, Palestine, Bosnia.
It is no wonder that it is not people like you or me, it is Pakistanis living in Pakistan always give their Pakistani army rankings in 80s in every darn survey. You can take your my people rubbish somewhere else. Pakistani army belongs to Pakistan! It is part of Pakistan and its every member is more Pakistani and has done more for Pakistan than overseas hippies sitting behind their computers whose only source of information is some pathetically written freelance blogs on Dawn, and sadly in some ways that group includes me too.

This is why Army should keep its press releases and tweets to minimum and should not enter the race of “you read it first at ISPR’s tweet account”. They become a laughing stock if this happens.
