After reading Aliyish thread about Fear Factor of getting a summon etc. while driving, this came in my mind. I think I have seen parents still doing the same with children most of the time, but during the time us children were brought up, our parents used to instill fear of Unknown, unseen things, personalities, or objects into us preventing us from doing things that a child is not supposed to do.
It also reminded me of user Sadaf’s old thread in Cafe something about “Yeh Bhaao kiya hai?” …
So, to start from myside, I have been harrassed with bhaao, bhaao bachaa, Ratiya (a nightly creature with scary features in order for us to sleep at night), dopahriya (along the same lines of Ratiya but for afternoon nap), Sar KaTaa, Allah Baba… and what not?
Later I found out it is actually not advisable to do that with children.
Were you given such treatments in your childhood? What were the things you were harrassed of?
These days, I have been harrassed by Cell Phone bill, Car payment bill, Internet Bill, House Rent Bill, and monsters of such kinds.
Once in childhood (4-5 years of age) I asked my mom about a mark on her hand. I kept asking it, so in order to avoid the question she said that a "chipkali" bite her. From that day till now, I can't tolerate chipkali ANYWHERE. The moment I see it, I want it dead.
AQ good thoughts, I was not really scared of anything in particular as a kid, but my youngest brother was and he talks fairly candidly about his thoughts.
sometimes it just happens, we had a storm, ani got scared of thunder and asked what was thatwe told her it was thunder, so now she is scaredof thunder, then at one time she saw a dartjh vader mask that I have, and thought that was thunder..
fiunally to get rid of her fears I had to ceremonially battle it with the mask and throw it in garbage.
good to see u are battling with bills only. I am battling with ego, incompetency and politics. luckily I am hiring some new people making last set of offers tomorrow to complete the team.
Great Topic.
I believe fear is introduced to our brains in child hood.
I have seen one of my friends younger brother who didn't have fear of unkown(jin-churail etc)
They had funny things happening in one of the room in there house upstairs. Every one was scared to death, while this kid use to go up stair in the room try to talk-to/yell-at the entity living there.
That ,we all friends, couldn't understand at that point, But after much brain storming and looking at kids childhood we figured out he just wasn't familer with fear. Period!!

That reminded me another fear that I have.
I had my car skid once (without any damage) but whenever it snows or rains, and I am driving, there is some kind of fear in my sub-concious that gives me creeps of getting my car skid and often I feel that too even if it is not skidding... what a bummer!
It's amazing how we look for shortcuts in trying to get kids to do stuff or not to do stuff. What my husband and I have realized is spending quality time with children not only helps to improve their self image but also make them more confident and open in addressing fears or issues. Instead of scaring them that the cop will come or this evil monster will come from the forest, we sit down with them and explain situations with best of our ability. And like X2 mentioned, if there is a fear of something, superdad can handle anything.
yeh kaalay kaalay say kalllay
yeh kaalay kaalay say kalllay
2 Km doo sar hi pata chal jaata hay kay Mr. Kalla is coming, mohallay ki windows jhan-jhana rahi hoti hain … pata kia main nay apni car main sub-woofer lagwa lia tha :$:$
Niksik, have you been the victim of this fear in childhood? If so, what were the characters?
No, I have never. Except for dad's taunts, there were no evil characters!
I hear that everybody is born with just 2 fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. All other fears are instilled in us or developed with time and circumstances.
Currently, I have just one fear: fear of going up and down on roller coasters, something I never had as a child but deveoped as I grew older.
